1001 Romances! | 178 comments   If I Were You, by Lisa Renee Jones

The first book in the Inside Out series, which is being made into a cable T.V. series.
(Author’s Website – TV Show Information.)

When Sara McMillan finds a stack of journals in a storage unit, she’s shocked and enthralled by the erotic life the writer led. Unable to stop reading, she vicariously lives out dark fantasies through Rebecca, the writer—until the terrifying final entry.

Certain something sinister has happened, Sara sets out to discover the facts, immersing herself in Rebecca’s life. Soon she’s working at the art gallery Rebecca worked at and meeting Rebecca’s friends. Finding herself drawn to two dangerously sexy men, the manager of the gallery and a famed artist, Sara realizes she’s going down the same path Rebecca took. But with the promise of her dark needs being met by a man with confident good looks and a desire for control, she’s not sure anything else matters. Just the burn for more.

If I Were You has been labeled an erotic story, and readers who might be sensitive to or uncomfortable with more intense sexuality in their stories should proceed with caution.

Contains some BDSM elements.

I believe (but I'm not sure) that all the author's copies have been claimed. There's a Goodreads giveaway for the book.

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments I read the 1st four chapters and am on chapter five.

I liked how the story starts out with Sara reading an exerpt from the journal --- a strong beginning, I found interesting; almost poetic.

Sara then turns into a detective searching for Rebecca, the owner of the Journal... now I am wondering if Sara will find out what happened to Rebecca...

It has a mysterious eerie undertone to it; with the gorgeous stalker and the missing Rebecca

Lisa Jo (babyjo) | 175 comments Pamela, I started this yesterday & it's pulled me right in!

message 25: by Melissa (new)

Melissa If I can get my amazon card to work on my kindle so I can get a copy I'll get it. I keep forgetting to put it on my account.

Lisa Jo (babyjo) | 175 comments I'm loving this read. I'm wondering just how bad Michael was to Sara. Mmmnnn....

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments This story is listed in the "if you liked 50 Shades of Grey" category... I read the "50 Shades" triology - so far it seems to me that "If I were You" has a slower pace than "50 Shades", but it has the same page turning quality about it... I am curious to find out if Sara will end up with Micheal, Mark, or Chris...

AerinLuvs (anniluvs) | 15 comments Oh, I forgot I have an amazon gift card and Amazon sent me a coupon via email for $2 off any Romance because I'm such a good reader, ha ha..

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but once I get this book and start reading along, does this Group Read chat about it here? Or somewhere else? I am on my first week on Good Reads, help. Thanks!! :-)

Lisa Jo (babyjo) | 175 comments Holy Mackerel! I am so mad about the cliffhanger! Can I say that? Now, I have to get the next book but it's freakin $ 7.59 or something like that amount which I think is a bit high for an ebook. Still, I have to get it to know what happens next! Good grief! I loved this book! It had everything but the kitchen sink! I love Lisa Renee's descriptive backgrounds which really felt like you were there in the moment. HOT, most definitely! Thanks for including me in this Ms. Pami! ;)

Well, I know I am.

FYI, as Mods, we've all discussed it and it will be one the questions we ask when / if another author offers us a "free" book for our members -(a limited number or not) to review.

We discussed the heck out of this event and that was the one possibility that never crossed our minds.

LOL! Very true, Dhes. We discussed the posting of this book every which way to Sunday, but not that.

I want to know about Sara's beginnings; her father, Michael. Everyone starts somewhere to mold their character. Still, the cliffhanger was crazy (crazy good!) Lol! Even tho' it pissed me off! Do I suggest my asking more info. be addressed on her blog to her assistant or is that a question you girls as mods forward??

I am still reading "If I were You", so I haven't reached the cliff hanger part yet, but have you seen the in between novellas that develop the characters?

Rebecca's Lost Journals, Volume 1: The Seduction goes into the secret life of Rebecca and the men who have seduced her.

I haven't read this so I am not sure how detailed it is. There appears to be 4 volumes of the lost journals

I would try one of those ways, unless the novellas Story & Verse recommended answer your questions.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments I've gotten a little side tracked. I'll be starting this today.

AerinLuvs (anniluvs) | 15 comments I have this on Audible now and am listening to it. Listening is very different from reading.

What do you think of the narration?

AerinLuvs (anniluvs) | 15 comments What do you think of the narration?"

The narrator is pretty good. I like how I can speed it up or go back 10 or 20 sec. When listening, you can kind of "tune out" while you're doing something else so I'm probably not paying as close of attention to the story as I could be if reading. It is less "work" listening vs. reading, enjoyable! Too bad most of the books on Audible are kinda pricey.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments AnniLuvs wrote: "Too bad most of the books on Audible are kinda pricey. "

Yes, they really can get pricey. But I've discovered that with many books, if you buy the Kindle version first, you can get the Whispersync (Audible) version at a greatly reduced price.

For example, with this book, the Kindle Version is $7.59 and then you can get the Audible version for $11.49. In my opinion, that's still not a bargain, but I've gotten some great deals...

For example, I bought the Kindle version of Flowers from the Storm for $5.69, then bought the audible version for $3.49. I got both for less than the audible alone, and far less than the $14.95 per month I pay for a single credit membership. When I can get the books at the reduced price, I do that and pay cash, saving my credits for the super pricey audio books.

And, by the way, Flower from the Storm is BRILLIANT both in reading and in listening. BRILLIANT!

Stories & Verse (storiesverse) | 256 comments If I can comment, I actually listened to the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy using Audible.

I was on the one credit per month plan, so I read it over 3 months.

For me, the voice over added a hint of reality to the story, but reading makes me feel more engaged. The problem with listening was that I found on occasion i lost my place falling asleep or became distracted doing something else at the same time.

message 45: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new) - rated it 3 stars

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14526 comments I can relate, S&V. I've listened to some classic reads and felt myself dozing at times and having to backup and re-listen.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments S&V, have you checked to see if your device has a "timer mode for sleep"? You can set it before you go to bed for the desired amount and it will shut-off by itself; then you won't be too far lost, if you fall asleep before it times out.

message 47: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Naughty Co-Mod (new) - added it

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 1922 comments It takes me twice as long to listen because I fall asleep. Or, I didn't quite understand something, or I missed something, and it's harder to find what I'm looking for with audio.

message 48: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new) - added it

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments That happens to me, too, Dhes. (Not too much when I'm doing mindless housework.) It is one of the reasons I love Whispersync.

I think I did try the sleep timer a few times... but I prefer reading now... I usually review, and it is easier to take notes reading on an e-reader.
