That's why I'm doing a challenge this year, to (re)discover amazing books - so which ones have you found that have pleasantly surprised you or blown you away?

I was definitely not expecting to enjoy The Shiralee as much as I did.

Elaine | 2001 comments For me so far this year, it is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I can't believe that such a small book left such a huge impact.

Kathryn | 3569 comments Well, they weren't exactly unexpected since And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini won the Goodreads Choice Award for Fiction last year and The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion was nominated by about half a dozen Aussie Readers in their top 5 books of 2013, but I really did enjoy both of these. The Rosie Project had me laughing on almost every page, and both of them had me hooked and very reluctant to put the book down! They are my first two 5 star reads for 2014 - and probably my subconscious yardstick for all the other books I read through the year!
