Netanella | 2108 comments February Reading Challenge - 28 Short Stories

Duration: February 1 - February 28, 2014

For the 28 days in February, the challenge is to read 28 short stories ... with Zombies! Short stories are usually approximately 50 pages in length. You can swap out genres, you can swap out stories if you hit a real dud, no worries.

Pick your reading level - read as few or as many short stories as you like.

Level 1 - The Ankle Biter: I can only take zombie stories in short, small doses. Anything more gives me heartburn. Read 5 Shorts

Level 2 - The Intestine Slurper: Like a true gourmet, with pinkie elevated, I dine only on select morsels. Read 10 Shorts

Level 3 - The Brain Muncher: I'm a glutton for punishment and will gorge myself on 28 stories in 28 days! Read 28 Shorts

Teresa (teresatheterrible) I just wanna say thank you, Netanella!!! I love challenges, so I'm super glad you've started some! I'd love to see a good quarterly challenge; maybe with time, eh?

Anyhoo, I'm going with the level 2. I LOVE your descriptions of the levels!

Teresa (teresatheterrible) Eager Beaver is your new nickname! One hour in and you're already 2 in! Good job, chickie!!! Any suggestions as to an anthology with longer Zombie stories? Cause they gotta be 50 pages or more, right? I know there's a thread for individual stories, but I'd like to purchase a bunch of them at once rather than one by one...
Thanks!!! And good job!!!

Netanella | 2108 comments These first two I read were 25 pages or so...I have some lined up for today that are around 75. Don't worry about page length - go for story. Isn't it all about word count now anyway?

I'll put some suggestions for anthologies and collections on the thread for Feb short story suggestions.

Teresa (teresatheterrible) So are we just editing our posts to reflect our progress rather than making a new one each time? I found Zombies: Encounters with the Hungry Dead, and its got over 30 stories in it, so I think I'm gonna rely heavily on that. I highly recommend all the anthologies in that series. It has all the history...like, it starts with 'Zombies of the Old School,' then goes to part 2, 'Post Emancipation.' Plus it has an awesome intro, and a few appendices & essays that are very interesting...

Netanella | 2108 comments I edited my post because I updated it three times yesterday, and didn't want to create a series of posts from just me adding a short story ;) I suppose it depends on how many people are "in" for this challenge!

Who's in?

Teresa (teresatheterrible) Me lol ;-)

Teresa (teresatheterrible) Okay, here I am!!! I have decided to break Zombie Fairy Tales: The Complete Collection down by the individual stories (which apparently were individually published for .99 cents each...I know I mentioned I bought the 'set') but I thought this way is perfect for keeping track of each story instead of just updating how many stories I've read outta the collection. (Oh, and I'm reading them in the order they are in the collection rather than by story #, so that's why they'll be 'out of order) Sooooo...

Level 1 - The Ankle Biter: I can only take zombie stories in short, small doses. Anything more gives me heartburn. Read 5 Shorts

#1The Zombie Pinocchio (just started)
#2.

Netanella | 2108 comments All right, tapping out - I didn't make it past 25 short stories, but it was a lot of fun getting that far.

How did everyone else do?

message 13: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresatheterrible) TERRIBLE!!! Although the fairy tale collection I bought looks totally awesome, I just couldn't get into a few books that were later books from two series. I hate reading the majority of a series and not finishing it. So I spent a lot of time trying to re-pique my interest in the series books (which I STILL haven't finished). I ended up just reading comics, Ready Player One and a couple Bizarro novellas instead. Maybe March will be better! I'm 1 for 3...failed December and February; passed January. Maybe March will be tie month! ;-)
