The Great Places to Work Institute (I don't know anything about them) just released a list of the 50 best companies for which to work. Four Wisconsin companies made the list, so the local newspaper picked up the story:

What about you? How do you define a great place to work? How would you define a bad place to work?

I think those three initial criteria are pretty good. I love my workplace, and I know a large part of it is the ease of the relationships within the agency.

I think a great place to work is where people choose to work there for love of the job, not for the money.

But yes, communication between management and staff is incredibly important, as is feeling like management cares about the staff's opinions and needs.

I've had good managers and wretched ones, and the good ones are the ones you can really talk to without being afraid of offending them, and that in return address issues with YOU right away instead of letting you go on your merry way without knowing there's a problem.
