Hi - I think I fixed my Sept. tally to only have a book used only once unless it was for a bonus. I'm a bit unclear how it works with all of the mini-challenges. If someone could tell me if I calculated the points correctly, that would be great. It's message 7 in the September Tally. Thanks!

Sam-
I've given up on getting my genre widget to tally. I keep adding them, though. Just for personal accounting.
As for your Points Tally, don't stress it too much. Tally as you best see fit. Just be consistent with yourself. (I'm sorry I can't check for you,as I'm on my phone. But, really, no one is going to make a fuss. Just do your best.)

Thank you for your help - I also gave up on my widget, but then I realized, it's tallying properly when I look at it under My Books, just not when I'm on the group page. Strange.
Hi Sam - I just checked your points for September and everything looks like it has been tallied correctly. As Renee said, we're pretty casual about the tallying, so don't let it stress you. Enjoy the process and keep going! You had a great month in September, congrats!
Hi. I didn't really know where else to post so I just chose here. I hope it is ok. Is there any type of a tbr challenge in this group? I have been roaming around here looking but I don't see one. I thought I saw one here but can't really find one if it does indeed exist. Thanks.

Hi Baseloaded,
We'll be having a TBR challenge starting in the new year, so watch out for Jan 1st!

I think I mentioned it in the mini-challenge planning thread. It will be leveled and focus on TBR books you already own.
Where is a good place to ask a specific book question? Say for example I read a book and the end totally confuses me. Another, I am searching shelves at the library and find a new author. I have asked questions in the Goodreads community and got no answers.
Hi Cindy,
You can post in the 'Specific Book/Author Discussion' folder we have. Just make a new thread about the book.
Or you can just post in the 'Book Chat' folder, with a new thread. It's up to you.
(Note: we may be moving all the 'specific book/author discussion' threads to the 'book chat' folder some time)

Hi Sonia,
Just above the comment box, to the right, you see a button saying 'add book/author'. Here you can type in a book/author and it will insert the link for you!

No worries! Just to let you know, the whole linking in books/authors thing isnt yet available on the apps (both Apple and Android)
When and how are books chosen for the next month? Just wondering so I can get to a library/bookshop if it isn't in my stash!
Hi Jill,
We choose books first by nominations, then by a poll.
Nominations generally open around 16th/17th of each month. Polls then run from the 20th/21st to 24th/25th.
These vary slightly, but its generally around those times. Currently, there's a day or so left on the polls for March! You can find them here.
Hope this covers things for you. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Oh, I just missed the vote. I think its Pride and Predjudice which I've read several times. Never mind, next time maybe!
I'm confused. Which book am I supposed to read out of the three listed per month? Or does it not matter?
Hey, this is just a general question about my reading challenge:I wasn't really sure how many books I read per year when I put my reading challenge, so I put 30. I'm already 10 books through, and I know I'll definitely have more time later this spring and during the summer. I was wondering: Should I bump the number up to 50?
Thanks! :D
That's really up to you, your reading habits, and what is most motivating for you. You can up your goal at any time. If you like feeling "ahead," then you can wait until you're closer to completion, then bump it up a bit.
I set my personal goal quite high, based on what I completed last year, and now I'm "behind" every month and it's a little depressing.

I just saw on another group an idea that I found quite interesting and that maybe we could explore for next year. I saw it in the "Francophonie" group if anyone is interested. I just thought I would leave the idea here before I forget as we're not planning for 2017 yet! 4 months on and I still have massive baby brain...Anyway, each month they vote on a theme. From memory, it can be things like WW1, the Far West, Asia, Victorian literature, etc... Then there is a thread where people can discuss their reads from the theme and suggest recommendations as well. I thought it was interesting as it's a broader topic than a single group read and might allow for more participation?
Not saying we should get read of the group reads, it's just something else we could do!
You're welcome.I had another idea tonight to increase participation. How about a special badge to put in our personal challenge thread if the book we suggested for nominations is picked and also for being a group read discussion leader?
I have a question about Camille's genre idea. Is that like what we did in 2014 when we had a thread each month for the genre and we all said what we were reading? I have been doing continuing ed for work the past two years but I am done in December and am expecting to be more active next year. fingers crossed I pass my last test in December.
I have a question. How do I edit/update a post using my iPad? I can do it on my PC. Thanks for any help.
If access goodreads through Google at goodreads.com, instead of using the app, you will be able to edit and update comments.

Renee wrote: "That's what I do on my phone with anything that can't wait for a regular computer."Thanks for your help, Renee. I'm able to hit reply on my iPad...and do those challenges without connecting at my desk.
Kjs wrote: "What books are we reading for January? I don't see them listed as they were last year."
Hi there! We are doing a theme per month instead of a specific book. January's theme is "New Beginnings," so you can read anything related to that theme.

We aren't doing a group read, but there's potential for buddy reads, and we can always bring the group reads back if there's enough demand.
Jade-
There's a group called Goodreads Feedback which is actually maintained by people associated with the running of Good Reads. If you search that group, you can leave suggestions that would improve the site.

In this group, are there any rules about the number of pages in actual books compared with ebooks? I noticed that some groups don't seem to accept the ebook page numbers. Sorry if this is obvious to everyone else, but want to check to avoid breaking any rules!
Nope, just count the pages for the edition you're reading! We have plenty of ebook and audio readers here and don't discriminate. :)
Hi, I hope this is the place to ask this; I've had an brief look around and can't seem to find the answer. With the Reading Challenge, how does it cope with multiple books within a book? The next few books I'm reading via Kindle are 'normal' books, however I then have His Dark Materials lined up; one book on Kindle containing the three books making the saga up.
I'm assuming at the moment that this will count as one book in the challenge?
Thanks in advance
It depends on where you are counting it.
If counting it on you Good Reads Challenge, you must list each book of the trilogy separately for 3 books. Or as an anthology for 1. Personal choice. Sometimes I do both because I like to look back and see both the individual books and the collection.
If counting them here in this group, you need to assess how the trilogy will fit with whatever challenges you join. For the Alphabet Challenge, you could do A-Amber Spyglass, G-Golden Compass, S-Subtle Knife. But I don't know which challenges you're considering.
If you need clarification, feel free to ask again.

The Dark Materials trilogy consists of three lengthy books. I hope you enjoy them. Each book is better than the previous one, so there are no letdowns.
I remember reading Dune by Frank Herbert and really loving it, but quit after reading the first two sequels. I really disliked The Children of Dune.

Thanks for the reply; yes it was for the Good Reads Challenge. I'll just have to read it three times as quick.
When I read bundles, I still add each of the books separately on Goodreads, especially since I don't always read them all at once. That means I don't add the exact edition that I read, but it feels more accurate to me.
So ever since they put in the reread option I am having trouble with status updates. I update my progress and it disappears. Then it says I am rereading the book. I am not. Is it something I am doing? Any ideas?
Roseanne, I have not had any issues with that, but I have not been useing the app for status updates, just the website. Perhaps its a bug with the app update?
