Luann (azbookgal) | 1017 comments I've been thinking that we need to start keeping a list of our monthly shelves and those who chose them. Instead of searching through past threads, those picking a shelf can use this list to see what we've read in the past:

2010

May -- French -- Natalie
June -- Chick-Lit -- Blarneygod
July -- History -- Tina
August -- Literature -- Cathy
September -- Latin America -- Susan (of the cat)
October -- Biography -- Crystal
November -- Time Travel -- Coralie
December -- Contemporary Fiction -- Karen (of the bookworm)

2011
January -- Coming of Age -- Lahni
February -- Science -- LynnB
March -- Mythology -- Candiss

2012

Great idea Luann - It's not only easier, but it is really neat to see the history. Thanks

Lennie (wwwgoodreadscomprofilelennie) | 36 comments Luann, thanks for doing the "grunt work" and making this easier for everyone. Will you be the one to update this list every month or will it be the person who was chosen for that month?

BTW, I've started watching "Lost" on DVD. I'm still on the first season but I'm really enjoying it! Thanks for recommending it--I didn't know what I was missing out on all this time!

It does give a nice overview of our history as a group, doesn't it? It's also helping out as we catch up our group bookshelf.

Lennie wrote: "Luann, thanks for doing the "grunt work" and making this easier for everyone. Will you be the one to update this list every month or will it be the person who was chosen for that month?..."

I'll update it each month since I'm the one who can edit my post. We'll keep the list right there at the top so it's easy to find and all the information is in one place.

Yay! I'm glad you like Lost! I'm going to loan my season one DVDs to my brother & his wife and see if I can't get a few more people hooked on it. :)

message 5: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments the list looks great, this will be so much easier for everyone to check before picking a shelf :0)
Plus I already find myself using the links ;op

message 6: by Tara (new)

Tara | 742 comments I love the lists and all the work you did on the home page!! Thank you so much!

message 7: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (lmsindel) I love the fact that we have the list now except for the fact that I joined this group way too late. I missed fantasy, mystery, historical fiction and young adult. Those are some of my favorite genres. Oh, well, I guess the whole point is to grow, isn't it.:(

message 8: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments unless they come up again with alternate spelling like on the list of shelves for shelf-a-Thon :op
*laughing*

message 9: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 1017 comments Although I hope we have a nice variety before we start repeating. I guess we can leave that up to the shelf pickers. They can be the ones who decide.

message 10: by Slayermel (last edited Jul 05, 2009 08:01AM) (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments I think we definitely will have a very nice variety before the repeats start. I'm finding the readers here on this site are very good at stepping out of their comfort zones. I'm actually very impressed with the amount of books that have been read per shelf considering the amount of people who participate in the monthly shelf reads.

WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Historical fiction... hmmm I think I have a couple of books that cover that...

message 12: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 11 comments Typically, when is the upcoming month's genre announced?

message 13: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 1017 comments Typically right away, Suzanne! Thanks for the nudge. I've been involved with the end of the school year and not thinking about much else. I'll get the ball rolling!

message 14: by Tara (new)

Tara | 742 comments I just realized that Slayermel has not been a shelf picker...how can that be?

message 15: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments My name has not been pulled yet, but I wait patiently LOL ;0p
I'm constantly debating what I would pick, but there are so many good shelves that it's kind of a relief when someone else selects another good one I can check off *giggle*

Thanks for your thoughts though Tara :0)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) | 2895 comments Mod
Wow, Slayermel, that is weird. You have been around so long, not to have been picked.

Another bit of trivia, after September it will be 24 months, which I believe means that the mystery shelf can go back in the mix. (not that I am suggesting that, there are so many good shelves we haven't used yet, lol)

message 17: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (lmsindel) Since we AREN"T suggesting shelves...I keep hoping someone will pick biographies. I have so many I want to read, but I never get around to them.

But that's just to name a few :op

message 21: by Tara (new)

Tara | 742 comments Oh Graphic novels would be a fun one! Vampires! Film! Of course, I will not share my favorites of the shelves you picked. :P

What do you mean by Graphic Novels?? :)

message 28: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments examples

Pride and Prejudice (Graphic Novel) by Nancy Butler The Crow by James O'Barr Watchmen by Alan Moore Batman Dark Victory by Jeph Loeb Angel After the Fall, Volume 1 by Joss Whedon

They are full stories like a book but in Comic Book form, There are so many really good ones out there that don't get the credit they deserve as people chalk them up to being for kids, or just plain old comics. So sad :0(

message 29: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (lmsindel) I read "watchmen" and thought is was great. It was my first graphic novel. I have heard that "Cowboys and Aliens" is also very good.

message 30: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel | 664 comments Oooooooh Lynne you may have just found me my western for the month lol. I've been waiting for the movie, did not realize it was based on a graphic novel, gonna have to look into this now. Cowboys and Aliens by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg

message 31: by Jessie Marie (new)

Jessie Marie (jessiemreads) Oh, Graphic Novels are awesome.
The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi The Complete MAUS by Art Spiegelman

Looks like the shelf list needs updating for March and April.

BTW, I love the group header...so appropriate for us!

Thanks, Bea. I tried to fit in as many different books I could find at home. I wasn't entirely too happy with the picture. I think I need to improve on my photography skills ;p

No, it's just that Luann posted that message so she has to be the one to edit it. I can't do anything, sorry, Luann might have missed your note though, so I'll PM her right now.

Not sure which thread to post this on, but I thought you all would want to see it. Thanks to Ebony's pick for December, we're ahead of the curve on this:
IBM says steampunk will be totally hip in 2013

Great idea! I'll post a link in the top message to the Google doc as well. We were eventually going to run out of room in that message so this is a great solution.
