What would this book been like if Bea(tris) had decided to join a different faction?

David Just want to start by saying this is a humor post. Please don't read on if you are a die-hard Divergent fan and take everything here too seriously.

Ok so it must have been absolutely essential that Tris join Dauntless, not because of any deeper, future purpose regarding the plot. Rather because the book would have been really boring if she had joined another faction.

Say for example, if Tris joined the faction Abnegation. What would she be doing during the initiation phase? Do the boringest initiates become members? What goes on in the Erudite training? Reading books? I know Tris would never have joined Erudite, but if she had would we be reading about how many books she could get through in a day?

What about the others? Candor? Amity? What kind of initiation do they go through?

Mind you, I have not read the other books so maybe my questions are answered there, and the initiation phases are a lot cooler than the way I described. For those who just read Divergent, what do you think?

Molly I know to become Abnegation, you have to complete 30 days of community service. As of the other factions, I'm not sure!

For Erudite, I'd say they have to probably take an IQ like test? Maybe read 50 or so books?

Amity, I feel like the initiation process would be pretty simple. Maybe similar to Abnegation.

Candor would be super hardcore, like I'm pretty sure I remember Christina or Al saying something about how you have to stand in front of everyone and say your deepest secrets. It's supposed to make you never want to lie again.

I think reading about Tris in maybe Candor or Amity would be really interesting- knowing what we know of her now, of course!

Thanks for the reply. How many pages could you write about Tris reading books and then the drama in taking an IQ test.

Or the adventures she would have been on doing community service...lol. Just a thought.

Olivia Ward Ugh that would be such a boring book. If it was like that anyway.

I know. That's why you could almost predict that Tris would have joined Dauntless even before getting to that part. It's the only faction that would have made this book exciting. I mean you have the train jumping, knife throwing, tattoo wearing, gun shooting, hard-core training, and of course, the fear simulations that makes this a great read and possibly a great movie.

If she stayed with Abnegation, then you would be reading a book about her time spent at the nursing home reading to the elderly while always wearing gray, and they would not have 50 shade of it. That, at least, would have been a little more exciting =)

Olivia Ward I am so excited to see the movie. :)

Emma If she joined a different faction (like Erudite) she might've kept the name Beatrice and met a nice guy possibly named Dante... and he would fall in love with her, but she would get married to someone else then die and he would write a bunch of poems about it, and then meet her in heaven. But first, he would take a walk through the city with a guy named Virgil...

Olivia Ward Haha yeah but I don't see her as someone who would actually go for erudite.

Emma Me neither, lol.

Maybe, she would join a 6th faction called... Elegiac or something... and they all love poetry... and there was a kid named Dante... and another kid named Simon... hehe.

Olivia Ward Haha those names are very old fashion. I like them though.

Emma Dante Alighieri - the author of La Divina Commedia - loved a woman named Beatrice (since he was 9). But she married a man named Simone dei Bardi. And then she died. And Dante wrote a whole bunch of poems about her and titled them "La Vita Nuova". And then he made her a character in La Divina Commedia. But before he can reach her in Paradise, he had to go through Hell and Purgatory, and did so with Virgil (the author of the Aeneid).

Olivia Ward OOOOhhhhh hahahaha whoops. Never heard of any of that before.

Emma It's cool, Chacun à son goût ;)

Ella VERY different, I think. She got the aptitude results for Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless. So, if she was in Abnegation, she would never meet the people she met at Dauntless, or go through the training which prepared her for war. If she was Erudite, she'd be considered a "bad guy." That's like the faction they're enemies with.... If she went to another faction, I think the story would be extremely different.
