Kae I read this book at LEAST five years ago, but I don't know how long it had been out when I read it. I can't remember if it was YA or just general fantasy, either.

It was about a girl who had psychic or magic powers. She was sent away from her parents to a school in the mountains, surrounded by wasteland which I think might have been magically tainted? Also I think it was guarded by wolves. Anyway, there were a bunch of other kids there, all of them with powers. They were being treated poorly, experimented on, I think, and the first book in the series was about them (view spoiler)

I believe it was part of a series, but I don't think I ever read all the books. I think I remember a part from another book in the series though, where they were going to find another girl who had powers and she was injured or ill or something like that.

This does not sound like _Escape from Witch Mountain_, which you might want to add to subject or description - since that was a popular book, as well as movie (and recent remake).

Jen♏ | 7 comments no i dont think this is escape from witch mountain. unless the movie is totally different from the book.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Yeah, that's why I said it does NOT sound like EfWM. But your subject line is going to lure in EfWM readers...

bookel | 4024 comments Reminds me of Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody, which is part of a series. (Various covers.)

bookel | 4024 comments The Farseekers and Ashling are the next two in the series. The former contains the events of the other book you described.

The Farseekers:
When Elspeth and others undertake a dangerous journey to rescue a powerful psychic and find an enormous book trove, the fate of the Obernewtyn colony hangs in the balance.

Ashling:
Elspeth travels to the lowlands to seal an alliance between Obernewtyn and the rebel forces that oppose the totalitarian Council, while still being pulled by the need to learn more about the weaponmachines that destroyed the Land during the Beforetimes.
