How do people already know that Cress and Thorne are going to be together?

Kiersten Michelle I'm new to the series, and I've just finished Scarlet a week ago and never read anything about Cress and Thorne, but everybody is saying they are going to be a couple. Not even just speculation. Did Marissa Meyer say something? Can someone clue me in please!

Belle I'm just guessing but I think that everyone is wanting Cress and Thorne to end up together because in all fairy tales they end up with their prince charming after all. And It makes sense because all the characters in the book need a love interest, and even in the next book "Winter" they will probably introduce a new male character for winters love interest.
But like I said just guessing

FallingAngels Well, there are many clues, but the biggest one is that Cress's ship is another name for Thorn, Thorne's namesake. Not to mention in Rapunzel the story there are thorns that climb the castle, which Throne will do here. Besides they are the two major characters not in a relationship. Apparently Winter will be in love with a guard named Jacin.

Karina Zourik I think everyone's just hoping. After reading Scarlet I really shipped Thorne and Iko just because they were so cute and Iko is the best and I wanted her to find love and be "a real girl" kinda like Pinnochio but then people started mentioning Cress and Thorne and now, well, yup I can see it and I'm hooked. And now, if it doesn't happen I will be sad because I'm so excited for it

Enter to win an ARC of Cress at Scott Reads It!

Cress was one of my most anticipated books of 2014 and so, I did a gleeful dance when it arrived in the mail. I really didn't know how Meyer could top the absolutely amazing Cinder and Scarlet, both of which are two of my all-time favorite books. Cress is definitely Marissa Meyer's best book to date and it upsets me how there is only one more book left in this series (Winter).

Cress, the titular character is probably my favorite character from The Lunar Chronicles at the moment. Cress is nothing like Cinder or Scarlet: she's much more awkward, insecure, and introverted than the two aforementioned characters. Cress has a completely different character than most characters you see in YA; it's rare to see a main character in YA who is extremely reserved and much rather spend time with technology. Not to mention the fact that Cress is a total fangirl for Thorne and she is so freaking adorable!

Cress is a much longer novel than both Cinder and Scarlet which worried me slightly because I don't have the longest attention span. While reading Cress, I didn't feel like I was reading a book that is nearly 600 pages because I couldn't stop reading. The entire novel moves at a lightening fast speed and there aren't any slow-paced sections in Cress. Marissa Meyer's creative world-building, witty dialogue and extremely lovable characters easily secure Cress a spot on my "Favorites" shelf.

The romance in Cress is beyond amazing and it's just what fans have been waiting for! In Scarlet, I was disappointed with the lack of Cinder-Kai interactions and I missed everyone's favorite Prince. There is so much more of a focus on Kai in Cress and I loved watching him respond to the entire Levana crisis. I also was a huge fan of Scarlet and Wolf's relationship in Cress and I really hope those two get the happy ending they deserve in Cress. In addition, I was really impressed with the way that Meyer handled the Cress-Thorne romance angle. I really loved seeing Cress's obsession with Thorne turn into a budding romance.

My love for Cress is absolutely boundless and I am extremely obsessed with this book! Despite the fact that my "to-read" pile is mountainous, I loved Cress so much that I'm thinking of re-reading it soon. Cress is another mesmerizing installment in The Lunar Chronicles and it's heartbreaking that I have to wait so long to read Winter. Cress is one of the best books I've read this year by far, Marissa Meyer outdid herself once again!(less)

DJ Please let Thorne and Cress end up together, or I will use my glamour on Marissa. Haha

Kayla Luna Cress and Thorne should end up together... Cinder with Kai and Scarlet with Wolf! (I personally love Scarlet and Wolf) My book club Skyped with Marissa and she was VERY hush-hush on details...

Mar I think Cress should end up with Thorne because of the movie Tangled. Rapunzel falls in love with the common thief.

Tessa Charles I think they will because as someone said before her ship is sorta named after Thorne and there are thorn bushes in the rapunzel story that her prince falls into and gets blinded by which happens to Thorne(not by thorns though), so I think they will get together! Hoping! I totally ship Thorne and cress, and scarlet and wolf!

Mutated Reviewer It's insight. It happens when you read a ton of books, you just start imagining what would happen to the characters. Also I read the next book, lol.

Tootles These books seem to follow their fairy tale counterparts pretty closely, so I agree that it's a logical conclusion that Thorne and Cress are meant to be together as a couple (regardless of whether they will survive to enjoy that). Cinder follows the story of Cinderella; Scarlet the story of Little Red Riding Hood. LRRH doesn't traditionally involve romance, but it's become more than common to pair Red with the Wolf. Cress is clearly meant to be Rapunzel. Her nickname is a type of lettuce (as is the name Rapunzel, and Rampion); she lives isolated, very high up; she has long hair which is summarily cut in the course of the story; her rescuer goes blind and they both end up in a desert; and she's kept by a wicked woman with supernatural powers. Thorne's name foreshadows the fate of the prince in Rapunzel; he falls from the tower into brambles and is blinded, and his ship is called "Rampion." His first name actually means the place where cress grows (watercress + well spring). You can see there are plenty of parallels (Meyer likes her puns).

Add to this the Sailor Moon inspiration and you'll see that Thorne shares a lot of similarities with Zoisite (or with the way most fan writers, including Marissa Meyer, characterize him), and Cress shares similarities with Ami/Mercury (she's very good with technology and very shy, and loves romance stories). Those two characters tend to be paired together as opposites in a relationship similar to Cress and Thorne's (though Meyer's version is, imo, the best take on this trope I've read in a while).

Finally, even if you didn't read the other two books with any of that in mind, I think you can pick up the foreshadowed thread of the skirt-chaser turned honest man by the love of an innocent, yet sincere sweetheart. I enjoy the heck out of their relationship, especially the humorous moments, so I hope she'll give them a happy ending (and the same for all the other characters).

Melissa Powell I believe like someone else said it's just insight and imagining what you want the outcome to be. I think there are very tiny hints that make you feel like Cress likes Thorne and of course the book is named after her so she's going to fall in love with someone.

I read Scarlet then started Cress a day later but I had a feeling he would fall for Cress, mostly because he is described as being very handsome and charming but the female he is closest to is Cinder but they are just buddies so he is bound to fall in love with someone else that's important.

Plus the cover synopsis gives away that Cress finds him to be handsome so if by that point you hadn't already guessed that was going to happen that made it pretty obvious.

Just like at the end of Cress you can already tell what direction Meyer is going for Winter's love story.

Lilac Eww. Why does he have to be a love interest? I was thinking Thorne was just going to be the awesome sidekick friend.

If it's written well, I probably won't mind. But it just seems like Pair the Spares to me. Meyer, I am disappoint.

Daring I am almost certain Thorne is falling in love with Cress-- slowly, but surely. They are so cute together. Cinder and Thorne are hilarious together, but Cinder and Kai are definitely getting together-- they MUST or I will be very upset.

Elizabeth Pratt I don't know for sure, but it's pretty obvious. Or just clumsy writing. For one thing, Cress is Rapunzel and Thorne's name is just like thorns, which in the original fairy tale blinded the prince when he fell from her tower. There's many other obvious connections too. I just assumed right from the beginning to be honest.

Elizabeth Pratt Tootles wrote: "These books seem to follow their fairy tale counterparts pretty closely, so I agree that it's a logical conclusion that Thorne and Cress are meant to be together as a couple (regardless of whether ..."

Yes, yes, yes ALL THE YESSES GO TO YOU MY GOOD FRIEND :DD So glad other people picked up on all those little connections! I agree completely. I wish there was a like function on this site.

Rhiannon Hopkins well there was that little hint in the thing to get you to read it, when it says that she was attracted to him and he to her!

Gian Before I read Cress, I never expected Cress to end up with Thorne. I was actually wondering who would end up with Cress, might it be some unexpected male character that just unexpectedly shows up in the book? But then as I started reading the book, I came to figure out that Cress would end up with Thorne since to begin with she was "doing her research" aka fangirling about Thorne. And one thing I've noticed is that Thorne's name is synonymous to the kind of bush that blinded the prince in Rapunzel. Which I've only noticed when I read Cress

I haven't read Cress yet, so maybe that's why the idea of Thorne/anyone seems so weird to me.

thanks for ruining that part for me. I know you didn't mean to, but you did. I haven't even read it yet.

Kura Kat I have read Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress.
Cress was by far my favorite.
I also love Cress/Thorne romance the best.
I love how protective he is of her.
It is very cute.

They did. Jacin, the guard who helps Cinder. Winter likes him, and he only serves her. I read the first three chapters of Winter in my Kindle copy of Fairest.

Emily Yeah, I mean, basically in short Thorne is based off the prince in Rapunzel and Cress, from the very time she's introduced (the hair, trapped in the satellite) is based off Rapunzel.

Josephine Yeah. Besides, he got so freaked out when Cress got taken away, that there's no way he doesn't care for her, at the very least.

Phoenix2 Josephine wrote: "Yeah. Besides, he got so freaked out when Cress got taken away, that there's no way he doesn't care for her, at the very least."

That and when the doctor said that he isn't good enough for her and when Thorne said that he wished he was the man Cress thought he was.

Sarah they have to get together and in cress they basicly do get together and everyone would be mad if they didnt.

jessicasreading… Well, I completely support CRESSWELL
Because cress is one of the most amazing characters Marissa Meyer has created
Because it shows that not everyone can be strong or though
But you can be strong in youre own way
Thorne and Cress are a perfect couple because—IDK!!
IT JUST FITS!!!
And Thorbe did space out in the last chapters where he was talking to Cress

ihearthawaii I support Cresswell (Cress and Carswell Thorne), Caito (Cinder and Kai), Scolf (Scarlet and Wolf), Wicin (Winter and Jacin).

Mirou The real story of Rapuzel is about a prince who become blind because he fell in a bush with thorns. So his name was a big clue from the begenning. Anyway, Cresswell is the best couple !

ihearthawaii Also, there was a garden behind Rapunzel's mother's house. The garden had a vegetable that Rapunzel's mother wanted. The father went to get it, and was caught by the witch that owned the garden. Rapunzel was taken away, and stowed in a tour. Do you want to know what the vegetable was called? Rampion. And, in Cress Thorne became blind, in the Rapunzel story, the prince was blinded by thorns. It makes sense why they would be together.
