Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 150 comments How do you get into your writing phase? Or how do you get motivation to write when you have been writing and that energy you had earlier is gone?

Alice (alice20) I have trouble with that too. Sometimes I free write without an outline or a set idea of what I want the story to be. I start off with one little line and go from there, and then I see where the story takes me. A few times though, sudden ideas just pop out at me when I read or watch a tv show, and that's motivation for me enough to start writing.

I think generally you just need to write often to stay motivated. I find that if I take a break for a week or even two days, I lose my motivation to continue my stories.

For me, if I know I need to sit down and write but have a hard time getting started I will open up a word processor and just start writing something that require no thought. For example, the lyrics to a song that is going through my head or typing a scene from my favorite book. Usually the physical act of writing helps me to get motivated to work on my own story.
