The writing was just odd to me and the main character had me rolling my eyes through the entire book. Horrible stuff and interesting information was coming to her and instead of focusing on that she spends a good half of the book crying about a guy that's dating her best friend. WTF? So disappointing.

A bunch of whiney, bitter, miserable, two-faced women bickering about a reunion. Also, the book is Southern fiction, but the author isn't from the South so there is a lot of stereotyping and laughable accents.

Annoying main character, very slow paced, a really bad attempt at a love triangle. There's even a lot of confusion because the author would bring up some cool stuff, and then never go on with it. Like whether or not animals could get infected. Lame

I don't understand it. How can a character that lands in such a whacky and wild world still be so one dimensional and boring? This book is quoted and praised a lot, so I was completely disappointed.

John, I agree with you, so sad :(
And I did also like Lovely Bones. It was breathtaking and heart wrenching all at the same time.
I did also like at least a half dozen other books mentioned here. Maybe not necessarily for their action or how much sense they made or how captivating and edge of the seat they were, but for the actual writing style and the ability to bring you into the folds of the world the character writes in. Sometimes you can hate a character or find them to be annoying or dull, but if the author is truly good, you'll love the story itself, you'll see the scenery, you'll feel the anguish.
