I recently downloaded the ebook version of The Book Thief and the pictures and handwriting are missing? Am I expecting too much from my device or should I try to download it again from somewhere else?

I read The Book Thief and felt that the animations were an essential part of bringing the story to life. Disappointed to the think they were not included in the ebook. I don't believe you're expecting too much! Which ereader do you have? Wondering if one over the other would have the illustrations.Reflect back on Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, if I'm not mistaken, the illustrations, also a key part of the story, were included in my Nook edition. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I don't believe you're exepecting too much. Maybe, we BOTH are? :O)
Thanks Kevin, I have an amazon account but read on Nexus7 on the Kindle app, so it's fully graphic capable. I assumed that they hadn't embedded the images from the paper book. Was curious to see if anyone else was able to see the animations. I think I need to visit the library, sometimes oldskool is the only way to read!
Just out of curiosity, are you talking about illustrations or are there actual animations that come with the e-book version?

I suggest downloading it elsewhere again. My ebook (and my ereader) did show the illustrations so maybe you just picked one without illustrations...?
Try an online EPUB - I've read several online books and illustrations have been included, so maybe it's because you're on a kindle? I don't know, but for me the illustrations were one of the best parts, so definitely don't miss out on them. :)
I also read the Book Thief on Kindle. I couldn't read handwriting or see illustrations -- way too small. Disappointing. But then I tried reading on kindle for my computer and I could see better -- bigger screen. But still some parts couldn't read well.
Cool wrote: "there was no pics in the paper version"There certainly are pics in the paper version: the various books that Max writes for Liesel have illustrations and are an integral part of the book. I wondered as I was reading these how they would be shown on Kindle.
