I have a good guess as to who you're talking about. And if I'm not right on the first guess, I'm pretty sure I can get it on the second. I'm not a fan of the feedback group, to be honest. I generally join to report or look for info on a bug, but then eventually get fed up with the general rudeness and lack of progress on reported issues then leave.

Andrea wrote: "Ok, so now I didn't get a notification, but at least I could check a box that said "notify me when people comment". Progress!"

Good!
If you want that "Notify me when people reply" box to be checked by default, then that setting is just under the group email preferences section you were just looking at.

You'd think so, but it didn't work the last couple of days. But I'm having a lot of trouble with goodreads these days. It might also be my browser. Who knows...

Thank you for making up this balance, Bob. I'll try to be more aware of this and nominate some books by female authors in the future.

I like to imagine that under the hood gr is a groaning mass of bits, badly stapled together, & under threat of collapsing or exploding if anyone touches anything.

I then like to imagine that the developers just run around with a giant sheet, trying to cover it up, & yelling 'nothing to see here'.

Some very interesting books on that list, & so many that have slipped past me so far! Think I'll need to invest in a few of them for 2017 :)

Interesting list of books Bat-Cat! Some I've actually read, many I haven't. I also question how a few of them got on the list in the first place because some, that I've read, I would not classify as "the most important books of the Last Twenty Years". :)

That was an interesting list, thanks for posting. I've only read 12 of the books mentioned and they were a very mixed bag for me, I liked half and really didn't enjoy the other half at all, in fact they're some of my least favourite books!

message 1566: by Bat-Cat (new)

Bat-Cat | 986 comments I guess I am sorely lacking in the current reading department - I've only read 5 of them and actually enjoyed them quite a bit. Perhaps this year I can check off some more. ;-)

I really appreciate you sharing this, Bat-Cat. I've only read three! But this will help guide me in catching up with current reading. There are many on here I've heard wonderful things about. Thanks!

Tytti | 1010 comments Hmm... Finnish problems... It's about -18 degrees outside and I don't have ice cubes for my drink. My main heater isn't even on (the other one in the kitchen is, can't turn it off, probably have to call someone to fix it) but I am still in my underwear because it's so warm in here.

Lena | 346 comments Reach out the window quickly! You have to use the weather, no matter how horrid, to your advantage. This summer in Texas we had a serious hailstorm that damaged rooftops, shattered skylights and windshields, and left cars looking like they had acne. But you saw people making the best of it.

Abbey Quick question....if the book was started in December, but less than half of the book was read, can it count towards 2017? (I thought I saw something about the rules on this somewhere, but I wasn't sure)

Sounds like a timely read! I've got that one on my (too too long) TBR list, but who knows when I'll actually get around to reading it.

I'll have to have a look at it. Jane Austen is one that I want to have a look at soon too. Read Lady Susan a few weeks ago as a short introduction and really enjoyed it, so looking forward to taking on one of the longer ones...hopefully she'll be as good as Dickens as I've nearly read all of his.

I live in Texas, and yesterday evening I was cycling to train for our next triathlon when a hailstorm caught us by surprise. Fortunately we were only three miles away from home, but it was so bad we couldn't see. My brother slid out and lost all the skin on his right thigh- (you're clipped onto your pedals) and I slid out once, but no other major injuries! I'm so grateful a car didn't slide out into us. Me after getting home:

Cute pic, Rhedyn :-) Glad that you didn't hurt yourself and I hope your brother is okay. Just wondering where in Texas you are. I'm in Lubbock and we haven't had hail, just lots of wind for days.

Laurie | 1895 comments I love how active this group is. We had over 300 voters in our polls this month which shows interest in what we will be reading. I am in other groups with far more members that don't get a tenth of that number voting. And our discussions are typically very lively which is just what most of us are looking for. I definitely appreciate such interesting members.

message 1595: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Laurie, it's the regular contributions that makes this group such a fun place to be for me :)

So many groups suffer from inactivity and not enough discussions for group reads, so it's wonderful to get such lively participation every month here.

Milena | 213 comments Laurie wrote: "I love how active this group is. We had over 300 voters in our polls this month which shows interest in what we will be reading."

Don't trust polls so much Laurie.

As far as I'm concerned, I want to read a short story with the group in March and I saw that so many good books were being nominated that I decided not to nominate one myself.

Moreover, I can't make up my mind as to which one to vote. That's why this time I'm not voting: I'm letting voters choose which story I'll be reading.

To make a long story short, I'm very interested on what we will be reading!
:)

Laurie I am also attached to the group and the thing that keeps this train moving forward is our members, the best on Goodreads. But I think another reason our group is successful is due the hard work of Kathy, Melanti, and Pink, since they are the ones that keep the tracks clear.

I quite agree Bob

message 1599: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 1895 comments I fully agree, Bob, that a great group requires great moderators. The two go hand in hand. And you didn't give yourself credit as a helpful and wonderful moderator along with the ladies so I will. All four of you do an awesome job. I applaud our moderators and our members who all make this a fantastic group.

Milena, I didn't mean to imply that not voting in the polls means that someone isn't interested. I don't vote in a particular poll if I'm sure I won't read any of the choices that month. But I am in another group that has triple the membership, but only about 10-15 voters each month in their polls. Then only one or two people read the group reads and post their comments. So for that group, the group reads are not the main focus of most of its members. If one joins a group to discuss books that we read together, this group fits that criteria wonderfully. Clearly we all join groups for different reasons and our levels of participation vary which is fine.

message 1600: by Pink (new)

Pink | 5491 comments Bob, we couldn't do this job without you :)

I think as moderators and members, we all bring something slightly different to the group. Which is a wonderful thing!
