Perfect, thank you so much! I didn't have a chance to create my map at this point, so I hadn't posted in the conversation yet. I couldn't figure out how to get back to the thread to post.

Oh, I didn't know that, I'm away the whole month you're reading for the group but it'll wait for me when I get back.
Thank you Melanti, hope I'll be able to get them.

Same here. I'm always tempted to start new books rather than stick with what I'm currently reading and finish them, lol.

Oh yes!! I have delayed planning my challenges exactly for that reason. I do need to get around to the planning eventually though.

Preferably not just for one author, but several - something along the lines of "best english poetry" (in the sense of written in the english language, not necessarily the country.)
I would like to get to know the works of Byron, Shelley, Keats, Whitman and others, but since I haven't really read them before I'm hesitant to choose one of them. That's why I decided to start with a collection and afterwards I can pursue those I liked best.
I already did some research on google but I didn't quite find what I was looking for, so I would be grateful for recommendations. :)

I read this for the poetry square this year and enjoyed most of the book, 100 Best-Loved Poems

here's a few short ones.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) [2/5]
Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions (1884) [5/5]
The City of Dreadful Night (1873) poetry [5/5] so awesomely depressing!
The Blazing World (1666) [3/5]
At the Mountains of Madness (1931) [4/5]
Carmilla (1872) [3/5]
R.U.R. (1920) play [5/5] great version on Libravox.
The Warden (1855) [3/5]
Futility or the Wreck of the Titan (1898) [3/5]

For a school project I am doing research on Blackwell's (a British book retailer) and I need some people who have been there at least once to fill in my questionnaire (who better to turn to than the book community!).
This only takes 2-3 minutes (I swear!) and it would help me out so much :) Would anyone like to fill it in? THANKS!

Now i know everyones images have meaning to them in some way but mine have gone a bit more deliberate. Its like i'm trying to play Dixit with the universe (Dixit is a game which requires players to guess which image represents a saying).
Anyway here's what i have so far:
Normal - default.
Grumpy - Self explanatory, not necessarily book related.
Creepy - Its halloween or i'm reading a creepy/horror book.
Feminine - I'm in touch with my feminine side, probably by reading something with a female main character.
Mirthful - I'm probably reading something funny.
Thoughtful - I'm probably reading something thats making me think.
Empathetic - Probably reading a tearjerker or something thats hitting close to home.
Images:
Normal - My default Humphrey Bogart image.
Grumpy - My glow-in-the-dark Cthulhu doll.
Creepy - A scan of Dracula from my 1959 paperback edition.
Feminine - Louise Brooks, also the photo used as the cover of the book The Invention of Morel .
Mirthful - A laughing Great A'Tuin, the Discworld turtle.
Thoughtful - The logo of the Thinkers Library, actually a scan from my 1932 edition of The Martyrdom of Man.
Empathetic - Ratty comforting a homesick Mole.
Anyway there's a look inside my head :) . I'm not sure what it says about me that these are the only things i wish to express ;) but maybe i'll add some more at a furture dat.

Thank you, I agree. I just needed a little validation :)

Has anyone watched Love and Friendship? I live in Germany, and I just saw it will finally be released here after Christmas. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it's just the plot of Lady Susan they adapted, or if there's anything else I need to re-read before I see it. I have a collection of JA juvenilia that's called "Love and friendship", so I'm a bit confused there :)

Someone else in the Lady Susan thread last month also confirmed it's only Lady Susan and didn't have anything to do with the juvenilia. The title change wasn't the best idea - it just creates confusion.

I noticed that this Love and Friendship film is available for free streaming with Amazon Prime. I might have to check this one out for myself. :-)

Ok, thanks. I'll re-read that then. If I can find a cinema that'll show it in English... Otherwise I'll just wait for the DVD :)
First let me state up front this is not a criticism. We’re finishing the first year of the Women's Century Challenge and it seems to be enjoyed. For the last two weeks a couple of dozen members have been preparing for the 2017 challenge. Planning and thinking about books authored by women, creating new lists and posting them for the group to see. It may be of interest to know that this extra awareness of books authored by women is not migrating to group nominations. Here are the results of this months nominations making it to the polls that open tomorrow.
Short Story-one book by a female author out of eight books going to the poll
New School- one book by a female author out of fourteen books going to the poll
Old School- two books by a female author out of nine books going to the poll
Total 4/31 books are women authors in this months polls.
Again this is just for information.

That's really interesting - and odd.
Several people in Old & New made lists full of women authors too.

I had to spend 2 days because I had to read evenings of Friday and Thursday--workdays and I wanted to see the movie on Saturday asap because I thought the movie might stop viewing in my city.
I'm a bit of a stickler about reading a book before I see film or TV movie/miniseries.

Me too. I need to able to complain about all the good stuff they left out and/or changed :D

Then i remembered that not all book entries are done properly, not all editions have the page numbers included. When i checked, as i suspected i had about 5 books without any pages numbers.
Anyway if you like to have that accurate view of how many pages you've read make sure to double check that number of pages is listed on the edition you've selected.

Thanks anyway :)

With as active as this group is, that's probably not a useful setting - though it's great for less active groups.
To change it, you need to be on the desktop version of the site (not the app) and go into your account settings, in the email tab.
https://www.goodreads.com/user/edit?t...
This lets you pick what things you get an email in by default and which you get notified...
Scroll down to the "Group Email Preferences" section, find this group, and select "None".
This means that you'll not get any notifications about a post in the group unless you've subscribed to the thread - which happens by default when you reply.

But it doesn't... Or at least you would need to have something selected, though maybe she has. But I don't get any notifications unless I choose "Notify me when people comment" when commenting.
And actually all of those settings at the link don't work, either, I don't get the notifications that I have subscribed. I have complained about it but GR doesn't care.

There's another setting for that. Just below the group email preferences section, there's another box that says "When I leave comments on other items, follow discussions by default." If that's checked, the "Notify me when people reply" box will be checked automatically.
Since Andrea mentioned seeing a list of topics she was subscribed to, I just assumed she had that box checked... Though I guess I should have mentioned it anyway.
Goodreads notifications can get kind of flaky sometimes, especially when you have a ton of them at once.

I did, probably a couple of times, and I have complained about other things, too, without much success. And if I dare to suggest something new, one non-staff member starts arguing with me even though it doesn't concern her in any way, so I just rather keep away.
