Jenifer Strait | 6 comments Hello everyone, My name is Jenifer and I live in Central California in a nice city called Clovis, just east of Fresno. I have been a huge fan of English History since I was a little girl. Starting with Henry VIII trying to understand why so many wives, the reasoning behind the split from the church, the treason, treachery, behind the curtain dealings and just the extreme richness, and palpable intrigue of the time period. I am most intrigued with understanding the context in which decisions were made, and in understanding the context their stories become alive.I am looking forward to the breadth of knowledge this group will bring to me.

Hello everyone! I'm Elizabeth (or Liz). I live in Denver but I'm originally from NM. I am presently unemployed and therefore have lots of time to read! I have been out of college two years but am going back to school this summer for graphic design. Anyway, I've been interested in the Tudors since I read The Autobiography of Henry VII by Margaret George a few years ago. I wasn't too much of a fan of The Other Boleyn Girl for some reason, so maybe I'll try it again since it's been a while. I also love "The Tudors" on Showtime. I also enjoy historical fiction in general. Anyway, hoping to chat with people about our shared Tudor love and of course read some good books!

Hi! I'm uNiKu3, I'm 12 and I love history. I live in England! I particularly LOVE the tudor period and after completing my homework I would spend hours reading books and looking up info on the tudors. I love reading books that are set in diary format from the tudor period. I think it was a very interesting era. xxx

Welcome to the group. I loved The Autobiography too. It gave such an interesting perspective being told in Henry's own words. Look forward to chatting :)

I'm so excited when people are interested in the Tudors in general, I'm extra excited to see that you are 12 and love them. I really got interested in the Tudors when I was around your age, give or take a bit. It's hard to pinpoint when the craze actually started for me but I see it being a life-long obsession. Welcome to the group :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments There was a book about Elizabeth I that I adored at about 12, but I have no idea if it's still in print - She Was Nice To Mice: The Other Side of Elizabeth I's Character Never Before Revealed by Previous Historians, by Ally Sheedy.

message 160: by [deleted user] (new)

thanks, I'll be sure to look up on it. I've read a royal diaries book on Elizabeth. It was really interesting.

message 161: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 854 comments Welcome to the group!!!! Liz, I too LOVED the Autobiography, even if it did get a bit dry at times. uNiKue, it's cool to have a younger (English!) person in our group!! Have you read The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn?

message 162: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read it but I have heard of it. i've gotten some great recomendations and as soon as i get back to school I'm going to give a long list of books to my librarian. Thank you!

message 163: by Abby (new)

Abby (ebbythekiwi) | 4 comments Hi everyone!

I have been a member of this group for awhile but haven't posted anything until today and this is my third message! Clearly I am enjoying myself :)

My name is Abby and I am a born and bred Kiwi from Christchurch, New Zealand. I did my BA in Classics, English and History and am now a Publishing student hoping to break into that industry. I want to get into non fiction and in a perfect world being involved in books such as the ones I read and love.

I was brought up on the Tudor era by my Mum who I have to thank for introducing me to this whole period. Anne Boleyn pictures and quotes have been around our house for as long as I can remember so it isn't a suprise that she is my favourite. Ever since I was little I have read about the history involved in this period, the scandals, the people etc. I absolutely love it and it's so great to find a group with people who have the same passion.

Looking forward to being a more active member and reading what everyone has to say :)

message 165: by Alex (new)

Alex | 45 comments Hi everyone. I've been a part of this group for a long time, and just never introduced myself. My name is Alex, I'm 24 and have been married for 4 and a half years. My obsession with the Tudors began as a very young girl when I read a YA book called "Mary, Bloody Mary" by Carolyn Meyer. Since then, I try to devour every Tudor-themed book I can get my hands on. This group has offered some great suggestions, so thank you for that!

message 166: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Dreamworldbooks) Hello, my name is Sarah and when I searched for historical fiction groups and saw this, I just HAD to join!

My first Tudor book was The Other Boleyn Girl and I read it when it came out in 2004. I became obsessed with everything Tudor since then and even watch the Showtime series The Tudors!

I am currently reading The Innocent by Posie Graeme-Evans which takes place before the time of Henry VIII during the War of the Roses, but its an excellent book so far.

I also write book reviews and have my own website at http://dreamworldbooks.com.

Nice to meet everyone and I hope I can add some new titles to my wish list at paperbackswap.com after reading some discussion threads.

message 167: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (akasharogue) Hello, my name is Samantha, I'm 27 and I first fell in love with the Tudors, especially Anne Boleyn, in High School while study Henry VIII and his many wives. Since then, like many others, I've been hooked to the point where I go out of my way to find books and movies about them and this time period. I'm even planning a trip to England to see some of the places they once lived.

message 168: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 854 comments Hello Sarah and Samantha!! Welcome to our group!! We seem to be a bit quiet this past week, but I'm guessing comments should pick up a bit more soon (my excuse is that it's finals week!!). Sarah, my first Tudor book was The Other Boleyn Girl too! And Samantha, I planned a trip last summer to England just to see some of the places that are associated with the Tudors and it was fantastic! The Tower of London was especially cool!

message 170: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Hello! My name is Tracy and I found out about this group from my longterm friend Colleen and another member from another Goodreads group! I am a military spouse with only fuzzy children and time on my hands. I recieved a Kindle for Christmas and refound my love for reading; I enjoy reading as an escape, but I also enjoy learning as much as possible. I like reading about real people and their lives and the tudor era seems very interesting.

I tried finding some tudor era books at my local bookstore, but the selection here kind of sucks so I think I will end up purchasing my tudor books on Kindle!

message 171: by Meaghan (new)

Meaghan (booklove83) I've just joined Goodreads and had to locate a good Tudor history group straightaway :-)

I'm a high school social studies teacher on Long Island, NY, and I have 3 children, ages 9, 4, and 1. I wrote my thesis on the fall of Anne Boleyn right before she became trendy (damn you, Philippa Gregory! Just kidding!) and am interested in all things Tudor.

Can't wait to commence chatting with you all!

message 174: by Tina (new)

Tina Welcome Tracy and Meaghan!

Tracy, I was a former military spouse--right before they had invented kindles. What I wouldn't have given for a kindle as our post had a tiny tiny library! I have one now and don't know what I have ever done without it!

Meagan, a hs teacher with three kids (two who are under 5)who has time to read! I bow down!!!

Then I started watching the Tudors on netflix and became hook. I love it!! I love everything about the time period and the characters are wonderful. I'm currently in college and don't have much time to read, I just finished the other boleyn girl and it took me 2 months to read it. message 179: by Kaci (new)

Kaci (visionplace) Hello, all! My name is Kaci, and I am currently a graduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I am getting my MA in History. My research specializes on 19th Century America and the Civil War, but I have had a passion for English history, specifically the life and times of the wonderfully eventful Tudors, since I was a teenager. I am fascinated with Elizabeth, as I find her strength and intelligence inspiring, and the girly side of me is in love with her relationship with Robert Dudley. I'm looking forward to picking up some book recommendations and chatting with other Tudor enthusiasts.

message 180: by Ciarra (new)

Ciarra | 5 comments Hello everyone, I just graduated highschool and am currently reading The White Queen(not technically Tudor, but it's somewhat related). I got hooked on the Tudors when I began reading The Constant Princess a couple of years ago. My interest was piqued and I haven't been able to stop. I am glad that I found more Tudor lovers. If anyone has any recomendations please share.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 34 comments welcome ciarra & kaci..you have come to the right place if you love anything tudor! lots of great suggestions here!:)

message 182: by Jennifer, Mod #5 (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 951 comments Wow! So many new members since I've been on this thread…

Tracy: LOL about your furry children! And yay Colleen for recruiting people :)

Meaghan: Are you an AB fan or just thought it would be an interesting topic to write about?

Ashley & Brittany: You're both in the right place. We all love the Tudors and there are wonderful recommendations if you have a chance to check out the past threads. Your TBR is going to get insane!

Sandi: I love seeing other Canadians on here. I'm from Nova Scotia. Doesn't seem to be a lot of people as passionate about the Tudors here. In fact, none. They all tend to think Henry VIII's sons name was Henry IX... sigh... lol

Kaci: E1 is my favorite of them all (as well as AB) and Robert Dudley is my history crush! I love him and like to romantacize his relationship with Elizabeth whenever I get the chance lol

Ciarra: Have you had a chance to read any other books by Gregory? There's a lot of debate over her books but I really enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance.

And I think that's everyone. Welcome to the group ladies. You'll love it. Can't wait to chat with you all :)

LOL Thanks Sandi! I've been pretty slack on my mod responsibilities due to real-life making it difficult but I'm attempting to fix that :)

message 185: by Ciarra (last edited Jun 23, 2010 02:55PM) (new)

Ciarra | 5 comments Thanks for recognizing all of us Jennifer. As a matter of fact, I have read some of her books. The Other Boleyn Girl and the Boleyn Inheritance were two of the three. I also read The Constant Princess. I plan to read some of the others just for fun, not for historical correctness which is the topic of most debates.
I hope to chat with you soon.

message 186: by annie (new)

annie (tellsnoemotion) | 147 comments Hi! I'm Annie and I'm from SE Saskatchewan! I first became interested in the Tudors when I was about 9 and my parents bought me 'Elizabeth I: Red Rose of Tudor' from The Royal Diaries series. I instantly became hooked on her and despite buying many more of The Royal Diaries books, she always remained a favorite. As I got older, I began to explore her background and like majority of people, fell in love with Anne Boleyn and her story. It's only grown since then, branching out to Mary Boleyn, Mary Tudor (Queen of France), Jane Seymour, Jane Grey.... My latest favorite would have to be Katherine Howard. It never fails to make me quirk an eyebrow that the only 2 wives Henry had beheaded were Howard women. The whole era is something I find highly interesting, and it's moved from a hobby to something much more intense! These are amazing women that lived, and I can't help but crave to know all there is about them.

Sandi *~The Pirate Wench~* (thepiratewench) | 34 comments WELCOME ANNIE!! :)

annie (tellsnoemotion) | 147 comments Thank you Sandi!!

message 189: by Rio (Lynne) (new)

Rio (Lynne) Hello everyone! I'm in Los Angeles and didn't know much about Tudor History until I started watching The Tudors. I would google after each episode to see what was true, which started more researching. I'm reading every book I can get my hands on. I joined because I like to discuss what I'm learning, so far I have been enjoying it.

message 190: by Ali (new)

Ali | 6 comments Hey Everyone! I'm Ali I am 22 years old from Ohio. I am a recent college grad with an Associate's degree in Physical Therapy. I became a Tudor fan during High School when I took Brit Lit and History I ended up doing a report on changes that went on during the King's Great Matter (looking at the people's lives). After that I was hooked! I am a big Anne Boleyn fan and i love Elizabeth. Love chatting with people so feel free to contact me.
Have a good day!

message 197: by Nancy (last edited Jul 03, 2010 03:10PM) (new)

Nancy I'm Nancy from NE. Love Tudor history thanks in part to my mother's side of the family who are still around London and Birmingham (but sadly don't keep in contact) and an aunt who lived there for a time. I have been to England and Wales twice for several weeks at a time. LOVED it and would go back in a heartbeat. I discovered this group thanks to another GRs person. I am loving the discussion about the historical authenticity of some authors. It won't stop me from reading something, but do want to know when its inaccurate. Thanks for being such a great informative group.

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 951 comments Sandi: Yay! Another Canadian! I loved Doomed Queen Anne from the Royal Diaries series :)

Welcome Rio! I'm sure you'll find lots of books to add to your TBR... there's so many great recommendations on this group.

Ali, a woman after my own heart. I adore Anne and Elizabeth :)

Lindy, there are some books reputed to be quite good by Karen Harper starting with The Poyson Garden, mysteries set in Elizabethan time. I haven't read them but thought of them immediately when you said you enjoy mysteries and historical fiction. I'm sure there are lots more with a combination. Perhaps you've read some you can recommend?

Nancy, welcome to the group. So jealous that you've spent so much time in England and Wales. I will make it there someday... I swear I will ;)
