Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Lynne.

What are you knitting? (Me: a baby afghan. To be followed by another baby afghan. My friends, they are fertile.)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Ah! I love sock yarn, but don't knit socks. (The next batch of it is reserved for a baby sweater.)

Abigail (abigailforan) Hi, I'm Abigail and I'm a huge history enuthusiast and a great Tudor lover....I'm 21 and live in London, England and cannot begin to say how priviledged I am to live in a city where I can indulge in my favourite topic! There are so many wonderful places to see all things Tudor related and it's never difficult to just wander into somewhere and find out that it dates back to Tudor times....I can't wait to read some of the previous comments suggestions and will post again soon with verdicts :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Abigail!

Living in London - how wonderful for a Tudor fan.

message 657: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) Hello all, I'm Pamela, living in England. I love history and books, but have only recently started reading historical fiction. I have just finished reading the Shardlake series (Dissolution ,etc) and am about to start Wolf Hall. Not sure if I'll be able to join the current group read, but I'll follow discussions and definitely join in with the next one later in the year.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Pamela!

Yes, the current pick is a rather long historical novel and it's summer holidays for many of us, so we won't have a new group read until September.

I love both the Shardlakes and Wolf Hall (as well as Bring Up the Bodies).

message 659: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (bibliohound) Thanks for the welcome Susanna!

Kimber (kimberlibri) | 66 comments Saying Hello to all! I was asking for suggestions on a book written from Henry VIII's POV and two members of another group I belong to said they were reading The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers for a monthly read in their Tudor History Lovers group. I figured that was a sign and quickly headed over to sign up. Nice to meet everyone!
Oh...and I'm from Texas and soon to be a Canadian by marriage. :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Kimber!

Yes, The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers will be our group read for July and August - here's hoping we all enjoy it.

message 662: by Abigail (new)

Abigail (abigailforan) Just got my copy of The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somersand cannot wait to start it!

message 663: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 41 comments Hi--can't believe I only just found out about this group. I've been a fan of the Tudor (and earlier English) monarchs since about 8th grade--and I'd rather not say exactly how long that's been! ;) Favorite Elizabeth novels: Legacy and Young Bess. Am currently collecting research for an alternate history novel set in the 1530s onwards.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Dawn!

message 665: by Lyndsay (last edited Aug 10, 2014 11:04AM) (new)

Lyndsay Hello there, I'm so happy to have found this group so now I can ramble on about Tudor history to people other than my boyfriend (Poor guy). I am 23 years old and live in Swartz Creek, Michigan. I've always been fascinated by the medieval and renaissance eras, the beautiful clothing and castles especially. I have so far only read three books on the tudors, all by Alison Weir: the Lady Elizabeth, the Six Wives of Henry VIII, and Henry VIII: a King and His Court. I hope to read next the Wives of Henry VIII by Antonia Fraser.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Lyndsay!

Antonia Fraser's The Wives of Henry VIII is a very good read.

Ginny (gingerscraps) | 4 comments Hi my name is Ginny, I am a mother of 3 lovely young men! I just recently joined and I am pretty excited to start reading the next book! It will be fun to see what has been read and to add to my collection!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Ginny!

We're just finishing up The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers, and getting ready for our next group read, which is The Sisters Who Would Be Queen.

message 671: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Morris | 2 comments I was thrilled to find this club! Where I'm from, few people read for pleasure and even fewer enjoy my love of history so this is exciting for me! I'm new to this site so I hope I can find my way around soon.

message 675: by Janet (new)

Janet Wertman | 20 comments I have been a fan of the Tudors since my parents let me stay up late to watch Masterpiece Theater's presentation of The Six Wives of Henry VIII back in 1970-something (and then Elizabeth R the following year). Love the period, fascinated by the characters. Am working on a book now, Jane the Quene...hoping to entice some of the people here as beta readers come November!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Janet!

Yes, The Six Wives of Henry VIII was my introduction to the Tudors as well! (My mother and I have rewatched that in the last few years. Her comment, on the Anne Boleyn episode: "I cannot believe I let you see this when you were six!") I loved Elizabeth R. even more when I saw that.

I'll have to check both of those out. They sound fascinating but I looked at moviemall.com and couldn't find them anywhere! :(

ETA: We got them from Netflix, I think, Kimber.

message 682: by Hunter (new)

Hunter Jones (huntersjones) Hi everyone! Thank you Susanna for letting me know about this group. My husband & I live in Atlanta, GA. Although I have an undergrad degree in History, it has never been used for anything but reading. Whatever you recommend regarding Tudor England will be happily read, whether it's an academic book, medical book, fashions of the era or a work of fiction. I look forward to reading everyone's recommendations as well as finding out more about you all. Cheers!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Hope you enjoy the group, Hunter.

message 685: by Hunter (new)

Hunter Jones (huntersjones) Thank you, Kimber. Those sound perfect.

message 686: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 29 comments Suzanna, do you know of any Plantegenet groups out there?

message 688: by Erin (new)

Erin I am from Quebec, Canada and it was probably the film " Elizabeth" starring Cate Blanchett that got me interested in learning about the Tudors. I am not sure what book it was that I read first but I know I read a lot of PG before exploring other authors.

message 689: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1 comments Hi! I live in southern Ontario with my husband and 3 dogs (1 American bulldog and 2 mini schnauzers). I've always loved reading and history (hence my English and history degrees). In particular I really enjoy reading about the British monarchy (maybe because I grew up in the States where we don't have a king or queen) and Henry VIII and his wives always intrigued me. I've read most of Alison Weir's non-fiction writings and am excited to see what people read and recommend, ectra.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Erin and Jennifer.

message 691: by Lois (new)

Lois (laileana) HI, My name is Lois and I am very excited to have found this group! I am from Michigan but living in Ontario. My love of historical fiction began with Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl. It kicked off quite an obsession.

A.E. Leger (aeleger) Hi everyone. I am a huge history nerd. I am currently getting my Bachelors degree in History with a Concentration on Ancient and Early European History. I am currently reading "House of Treason: The Rise and Fall of a Tudor Dynasty." by Robert Hutchinson. It is an awesome book. I look forward to meeting everyone and learning so much more.

I met a lovely "white chocolate" minature schnauzer at the knitting retreat I was attending last weekend. He was a little sweetheart.
