Elena | 73 comments Hello everyone! My name is Elena and I am 22. I live in Italy but I've always been fascinated with English history and culture, and of course the Tudor period is my favourite (but I'm recently starting to get interested in the War of the Roses period also). I am not exactly sure how I became obsessed with the Tudors; maybe it was because of the "The Other Boleyn Girl" mania, but I am not sure. Anyway, I really enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction. If I had to choose a favourite Tudor I'd probably be obvious and say Anne Boleyn, but I'm really very interested in everyone, so feel free to recommend me anything :D

message 603: by Izzy (new)

That series is how I got hooked, too! It is really excellent. My favorite is Annette Crosbie as Catherine of Aragon.

message 606: by Izzy (new)

Izzy Oh yes Denise,Annette was extraordinary as Catherine.

message 607: by Sherita (new)

Sherita | 1 comments Hi my name is Sherita. I live in the Bahamas and the Tudor period is one of my favourites. Enjoy anything Tudor and have a reading list that leads up to those years beginning the new year. So, I look forward to seeing what else I can learn here.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Sherita, I'm sure this group will help you fill up your TBR pile with Tudor stuff!

message 609: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (lesleykh) Hi, I'm Lesley Hale and having taught the Tudors to children for over twenty years I took the big step of leaving my job to concentrate on writing. My first full novel is, yes, about the TudorsWitness, and its sequel is almost ready to publish.
I like to read about the small details of everyday life as well as the big movers and shakers. I love the Shardlake books of C.J.Sansom and adore Hilary Mantel's two Tudor novels.

message 610: by Amy (new)

Amy Barlow snell | 1 comments Hi! I'm married with 1 son in Mesa, Arizona. Not new to the site, but new to the groups and this one instantly caught my eye. I love anything Tudor. I don't get to read nearly as much as I'd like, but looking forward to changing that this year.

message 611: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1 comments Hello!

My name is Rachel, thought I would introduce myself before diving into the monthly readings!

Right now I am very obsessed with Bronte's books, especially Jane Eyre...I have read it a few times now haha. But, I am ready to read other classics and discuss!

I am also in love with all Jane Austen's works too. :)

Hope to meet some fellow book lovers. :)
Rachel

Lizzie (lizzierw) | 1 comments I'm a 22 soon to be a 23 year old unemployed. I'm fascinated by Tudor history and is looking for more books to read.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Oh, if you're looking for more Tudor books, you have probably come to the right place. (I see things mentioned here all the time I had no idea of.)

message 614: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 19 comments I am 25 years old and recently finished my masters degree. My love of Tudor history began for me in high school when I did my senior thesis on Anne Boleyn. Although recently I have become a lot more sympathetic towards Catherine of Aragon. Anyhow I would like to become involved with this group because I want to keep learning more about Tudor history and eventually read more into the War of the Roses.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments That's great, Ariel. Next month we're doing a "War of the Roses" special theme for our group read.

message 616: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Leete | 3 comments Hi,I am from the UK, and have one wonderful son who is 24. My husband died December 2012. I used to read a lot of fiction and romance books, but got very bored with them. I have a love of history, so I thought I would start by reading about the Tudors, at present have just started reading 'The Six Wives of HenryVII' by Alison Weir.

message 617: by Sasha (last edited Jan 25, 2014 04:47PM) (new)

Sasha (sasharambles) Hi, my name is Sasha and I'm in Ottawa, Canada. I can't remember now what got me hooked on the Tudors, but love reading about them, both fiction and non-fiction. I recently became particularly interested in Jane Grey and how it was that she came to the throne, and some research there made my most recent trip to London (a city I LOVE) much more meaningful.

I joined this group some time ago, but never got around to introducing myself or really following along at all, but I'm waiting for my copy of Mistress of Kings from the library and looking forward to reading and talking about it (I haven't read as part of a group since high school!).

message 618: by Liam (new)

Liam Archer | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm new here and wanted to let you all know about my book which is about the Tudors and royalty, specifically Anne Boleyn and her rise and fall from power. There is also lots of imagery in my book of Hever Castle and the Tudor manor that's within its walls. It is now on sale, so if you're interested in reading my book please check it out! Sandra (sandillajoan) | 5 comments Hello friends! I was thrilled to discover this group just now. I've always had a love of all things Tudor. I have tons of books I've collected and there are so many more I want to read. Can anybody recommend some books that are, perhaps, not as well known but are available to purchase that you would recommend? I'm always looking for something with a different twist on the norm. Thanks!

message 621: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandillajoan) | 5 comments Oooooops - my name is Sandi. I live in a small town 20 miles sw of Boson in MA. Thanks!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Hi, Sandi - there are lots of interesting-looking books suggested in the "Let's fatten up our TBR list" thread, and elsewhere hereabouts.

message 624: by Dana (new)

Dana Hey, my name is Dana, I'm 24 and live in the Great North. Obviously I love reading and just this year started actively reviewing. It's amazing how many free books you can get when you start giving feedback. I am always looking for friends on Goodreads as none of my real life friends love reading like I do. Favourite genres are Dystopian/Paranormal/Young Adult. I am currently taking online prerequisite courses in the hopes of eventually becoming a dental assistant. That's all for now folks!

message 625: by Gail (new)

Gail (fictionbookwurm) Hi, I just found this group, although I've been interested in Tudor fiction for a long time. I'm from the Chicago area, though I live in southern Illinois now. I'm single and in my 40s. My babies are two dogs: a female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a beagle/spaniel mix.

I love to read and my interest in the Tudors began in 5th grade when I read a biography about Elizabeth. It started me on several years of reading and researching the royals. I've visited England including Hampton Court Palace, Hever Castle and Warrick Castle. And all of that because of the books I've read. I enjoy Philippa Gregory and have just started her Cousins Wars series. I'm looking forward to joining some book discussions here.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Gail.

Currently we're reading Alison Weir's novel A Dangerous Inheritance as our group read, and taking nominations for next month, if you have any ideas, over in the "group reads" area.

message 627: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen Mary Hello. I'm an avid reader and a lover of HF. Especially Tudor era England. I am currently exploring some of England's earlier days with Bernard Cornwell. I look forward to finding some more great reads and discussing them with others with the same interest.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Hi, Gretchen. Welcome to the group!

message 629: by Michell (new)

Michell Karnes (royalreader) | 229 comments Hello. My name is Michell and my love of british royalty began with Charles and Diana's wedding. I was in high school and could not get enough info about Diana. That made me realize there were many royal princesses of the past to read about and found the book Brief Gaudy Hour by Barbara Barnes and have been a Tudor fan ever since!!! I even got my husband to appreciate my love of history. We spent our honeymoon in London. He was generous enough to take me back there two more times where I completed my pilgrimage to visit all of the graves of Henry VIII wives and Princess Diana. I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction. I am looking forward to this group.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Hi, Michell. Welcome to the group!

We're having a poll right now for our next group read - it's at the bottom of the group's front page, or on the polls page, if you're interested in voting.

Thought I should come in here and introduce myself. As you can see my name is Cindy and my body is in Lake Benton, MN but my heart is in the PNW. (I borrowed that from someone no idea who though)
I do enjoy reading about English History as far back as the Vikings. Hard to find books about that era though. The way I see it it all started from that point so in essence it is Tudor related, right? Or I could just be very delusional. Makes me happy. =)
Can't wait to read more and I do hope to involve myself more in the discussions.
Guess I should confess as to what first caught my interest about The Tudors. Yes it was the movie "The Other Boleyn Girl" just like any fiction I enjoy reading and watching it.

Cindy

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Hi, Cindy - welcome to the group. I love pretty much all of English history, too.

message 634: by Tyler (new)

Tyler | 1 comments Hello, my name is Tyler and I am an avid fan of the Tudor era. I am currently working on a Master's degree in History exploring the culture of printing and natural magic. I haven't read that many historical fiction books that take place during the 15th and 16th centuries, so I am looking forward to finding some good books to read.

message 635: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the welcomes. So with that Welcome Tyler.
Cindy

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Tyler.

Our group reads this month and next are both historical fiction - Alison Weir's A Dangerous Inheritance and then C.J. Sansom's Dissolution, if you want to give that a shot. (I'm so-so on the Weir, so far, but the Sansom I've read, and it's a favorite.)

message 640: by yingju (new)

yingju casey (yingjucasey) Hello! I'm new here and I've been driven to join this community after shamelessly trawling many of your existing threads for book suggestions. Occasionally my Tudor fever flares up and demands sustenance and I've love to pick all your brains about the best of the best. :)

I live in London, England and work at a literary agency. I'm a bit of a culture vulture (though I dislike the term when it's actually applied verbally to me, ha) and can be found most evenings at the cinema or curled up with a book at home.

Nice to meet you all!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Ying-Ju.

A history tour sounds lovely, happy. Where are you hoping to go? :)

message 644: by happy (last edited May 20, 2014 02:26AM) (new)

happy (happyone) | 106 comments We were there in '08 for about 2 weeks and just loved it, I think one could spend a month in London alone. My brother was in England working for the US Army and we spent some time with him. I plan on retiring in about 8 yrs or so - it will after that. I two kids in college right now and we have to get them through before I can even consider it :)

message 645: by yingju (new)

yingju casey (yingjucasey) I fully agree that one could spend a month (or a year, really!) in London alone, though of course the rest of the country is just as interesting and beautiful. (And less overrun with people.) I hope you have a wonderful trip when the time comes!

Taylor Hello, I'm in my mid-20s and in my last year of college (expected to graduate in August of next year). My major is General Studies with emphasis on Business and English. As you can see, one of my hobbies is history. I became interested in Tudor history when I did a paper on Elizabeth I a few years ago. Since then, I have never looked back. My other hobbies are music, creative writing, walking in nature, playing sports, and reading.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 2169 comments Welcome to the group, Taylor.

Elizabeth I is one of my favorite Tudors.
