I tend to have one book on my kindle that's my main read, an audiobook for when I'm running (well, more like walking nowadays) and a graphic novel to read when I've had enough of the tv the kids are watching!

I'm almost always reading a lot of stuff at one time. I'm a moody reader. I usually have one fantasy, one (or two romances), a couple of re-reads and a bathroom book going at one time.
Moody reader. That's is perfect. I am a moody reader. I just inexplicably get over things and back into them in a day. And I've never once gotten confused juggling my books.
^Not just you. I have two books on the go. I usually have a non-fiction and fiction going. It's so cold here I don't like dragging the e-reader around with me when out and about so paper books work that beat until spring again.

Unless it's just pure gibberish...which has happened to me before. >:[

Thanks Paul. Just like you said, I couldn't read a thing! But I'm home now and will happily tuck into a book ;)

Same. I used to have multiple books going at once and didn't really enjoy it. These days I have accepted my many reading quirks and just roll with it.

Becky wrote: "Marysia, that's a very interesting essay, however, this is the "What are you reading?" thread, not a thread for discussing writing or character development."Sorry about that, I suppose I was sleepy and looking around for a good place to discuss books in more depth, and I thought a general reading thread was as good a place as any. It was tied into what I was currently reading, which I listed at the bottom. My apologies. Do you have a thread more appropriate for discussing fantasy tropes and such? I removed the post for you. :)
You can go through them on the group's home page, or you can start one. I'm not a mod, but you know no biggie.

You're most welcome to start a thread on the subject of fantasy tropes, Marysia. I'd suggest the Fantasy folder if you'd like to discuss tropes specific to that genre, or Books & Discussions if you'd like to discuss tropes in fiction as a whole. :)

I'm still slogging through Dangerous Women. Why is this taking me so long? So far my favorites are the Hobb and the Sanderson story. The first shattered my heart in tiny little pieces. And the second was devilishly fun, I would love for Sanderson to write a full novel in this universe, though it did remind me a lot of Peter V. Brett's Warded Man series.I'm also listening to Dracula on audio. My first ever audio book but I think I'm already addicted. Will definitely be downloading more.
And I started The Way of Shadows. I'm hoping to finish the trilogy this month. My first *finished* for the series challenge.
I didn't really care for The Way of Shadows. I don't know if it just wasn't the right time for me to read it or what, but I ended up giving up about mid-way through because I was just not interested.
But yay! about the audiobook. Who is the reader? I'm glad you're enjoying it! I love that book and I love audiobooks. :D
I haven't started Dangerous Women yet. I know, that's crazy, with it having an ASOIAF story in it. And a Dresden.Oh, the Sanderson is actually supposed to be set in his Cosmere universe. That's the same universe that has Mistborn, Stormlight, Warbreaker, and Elantris. Just a different world that hasn't been seen before.

The Lightbringer series however.. So much better.

Ahh, OK. LOL
I'm hung up on starting because I'm not caught up with the Abercrombie stand-alones. I'm afeared of "Some Desperados" spoiling those for me.And I can't very well read the rest of the book and not that story.

According to the group I'm reading it with there's no spoilers but the main character of the story does show up in one of his books... Red Country? I think. I liked the story but I haven't read anything else by the author so I sort of felt like I was missing something.
ok, that works...And I know the Dresden story would spoil the hell out of that series, but I've read all of them.
Yep. I read it after only reading Storm Front. I was warned about the spoiler though and read it anyway. My fault.
Don't feel bad. I was spoiled after reading Storm Front too. I made the mistake of looking up the other books in the series on GR. The publisher doesn't seem to care about spoiling its own books, as they tell you everything you need to know in the book blurbs.
I still need to start Dangerous Women. In general I'm not a huge fan of story collections but I need to read this one for the Abercrombie, Butcher and Martin stuff at least!Interesting that the Dresden Story is set after Ghost Story. Given what I've heard about who the main character is I would have expected it to be before Ghost Story. Even more interested to read that one now.
Need to finish up The Apocalypse Codex and then do Caliban's War first though.
Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn. I'm really busy with school right now though, so I haven't had much time to get through it. Sharon Shinn is in general an amazing writer. I think she has something for everyone. My personal favorite is her first novel, The Shape-Changer's Wife. It's darker than her other books. Although I love all her work (the Archangel series is also really good), I wish she'd write another story like The Shape-Changer's Wife. It feels like an old legend in the best sense.
I'm finally getting into Steelheart. I'm liking it so far. I definitely want to see where it all ends.
I'm almost done with Steelheart. I'm hoping to wrap it up tonight. I think tomorrow I get my new Audible credit and I'm getting Swan Song. I don't know which book book I'm starting next. Hmmmmmm

I'm a member so I get a credit each month that I can use to get an audiobook. Otherwise, I don't know what you're asking.
It depends on your membership with Audible, Nyssa. The standard membership is $14.95/ month, which equals 1 credit per month. You get the credit when you're billed for the month. They have 2/month plans, and ones where you pay upfront for the year, but I prefer the monthly plan.
Felina wrote: "Yes. The monthly plan. The yearly one is a little too much."Agreed, though it does work out to be less money per credit. I might give it a try one year.

Ah! Okay. thank you.
I just looked, and I think that I will probably switch to one of the annual plans soon. If I switch to the Gold Annual, I'd save $30 over the year, which is like getting 2 months free.

Becky wrote: "I just looked, and I think that I will probably switch to one of the annual plans soon. If I switch to the Gold Annual, I'd save $30 over the year, which is like getting 2 months free."I never realized audiobooks were so expensive. "The Help" is $27!!

Sounds like a perfect time to stock up some audible credits on the cheap. :D
Nyssa wrote: "Becky wrote: "I just looked, and I think that I will probably switch to one of the annual plans soon. If I switch to the Gold Annual, I'd save $30 over the year, which is like getting 2 months free..."It is expensive. That's why you do the membership. It's much cheaper.
Yeah. I have an Audible account for hubby. He only goes for one book a month so I only pay $14.95 per book.
Nyssa wrote: "I never realized audiobooks were so expensive. "The Help" is $27!!"With a membership, you could buy it for $18.62 if you didn't have a credit. (That's another thing I like about the service. You get a discount on non-credit purchases too.)
