My copy was actually personally autographed by Seanan McGuire a few years ago at ARISIA, while she was just moving to become well-known. The woman is pee-your-pants funny in real life. She's coming back to be Guest of Honor at BOSKONE in February, so I figured I'd nominate her book in case there are other scifi/fantasy geeks in the group. :-)

I've been meaning to get into more of her follow-up books, but I'm so busy all the time (my TBR backlist is massive) that I've never had a chance to read past the second book of this series. I've also read Seanan McGuire under her Mira Grant pen name, in which she published more hardcore science fiction (which is why she's Guest-of-Honor at BOSKONE science fiction convention). But what I really like is she's just so darned funny in real life.

If you ever have a chance to see her at a science fiction or fantasy conference, you should go. She's at BOSKONE in Boston the weekend of February 14-16. She did this comedy panel at ARISIA in 2012 that was hilarious and she was just really nice and approachable (though her agent kept herding her away from us 'peons' when she lingered to chat). It's always nice to see an author whose books you enjoy ... AND is nice ... get the recognition they deserve :-)

There are -other- SciFi and Fantasy conventions around. Here's a link that lists them and their websites to see if there's one in your area. I like the ones where you can go in costume best, but the literary ones are pretty nice, too.
