Are different language and different title considered 'single work'? Anyway, something seems to have worked, as the Indonesian language / different title (with 'like' part in title) is no longer displayed as my work.

I wish to further clarify the status of translations within Goodreads. Translations are 'derivative works' of the 'original' upon which they are based. Does Goodreads consider all derivative works of a particular work as 'single work'?
I wish to learn as much as possible about the legal status of 'translations' 'derivative works', and other statuses related to works in the public domain in the sense of 'single work' as I can, for my further education, and contribution to my ten-year-long research.
Could someone please point me to the legal definition of 'translations / derivative works' being classed as 'single work' (there must be one for it to be a 'long-standing policy'). (A good derivative work of 'Romeo and Julia' enhances the value of the original, a bad derivative work of 'Romeo and Julia' would also create negative notion towards the original).

Yes, in when referring to translations and abridgements. Adaptations are handled differently, though. In any case, I doubt this has any general legal relevance. It's a policy that only affects how books are grouped on Goodreads itself. And many users review more than one edition of a work. https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/7...
And yes, the fact that you were incorrectly listed as one edition's primary author is what was causing the problem.
And now I see that you have put ( 1 - 4 ) behind my hard cover Complete Winnetou Trilogy; which is completely wrong. The trilogy contains books 1 - 3, Book 4 is separate. The Complete Winnetou Trilogy does not contain 4 books. As the word (trilogy) says - 3 books. This is unreal. You are telling a reader that they get 4 books, when in fact there are only 3 books inside Complete Winnetou Trilogy. Hm ...
To clarify: Winnetou 1, 2, and 3 (sometimes I, II, and III) were written in 1893. Winnetou 4 was written in 1910, and despite it's title (Winnetou IV) - does not belong to the books 1, 2, and 3. Some combine the 4 books; the authentic break-down is (1, 2, and 3) plus separate (4).
The English language edition I translated (Complete Winnetou Trilogy) contains Winnetou I, II and III - not Winnetou IV). If you wish to insist on making it a series, then you must correctly put (1 - 3) behind the title, not (1 - 4).

I have a couple more questions (you knew this was coming).
You've gone overnight and took me off all of my Karl May translations as the first author (author/translator) and put Karl May in as the first author, and me as 'translator'.
Karl May did not author the research in those books.

And the more I look the more I discover - why shorten the titles of my books? Winnetou I - Winnetou Trilogy Volume One / Winnetou II - Winnetou Trilogy Volume Two / Winnetou III - Winnetou Trilogy Volume Three - the byline is on the cover (tho not on the thumbnail I used time and time again - I didn't think I had to be so pedantic). It is on the cover! Check the shopfront at Lulu.com. You may wish to copy a new thumbnail from there as I am not permitted to replace it here.

Whole books are not deleted from the database when the author leaves Goodreads, that would make other users shelves incomplete.
It seems to me that the editions with book 1-3 are incorrectly combined with those editions with book 1-4. I will look into it to separate them.
this is listed as a 'different edition' of the Indonesian book titled Winnetou II Si Pencari Jejak - which it isn't. Contents definitely differ.
Karl May's Winnetou. It is translated into 40+ languages, my Indonesian colleagues have translated Winnetou into Indonesian from the Dutch versions. I translate Winnetou directly from the original (1800s) German.
For some reason the Indonesian book is on my list as 'read' and 'translated' and seems to be inextricably linked with my own English version see above (note: I neither read nor speak Indonesian, but on occasions work closely with my Indonesian colleagues who also translate Karl May). - If I untick my English version from my shelf 'translated' it also unticks from the Indonesian version - and vice versa. I 'took it off' the list of 'my books', where it is no longer visible, however, it still appears as the second book right under my profile. And for some reason I simply am unable to take the Indonesian book (Karl May II Si Pencari Jajak) off the display. I've left librarian comments, have changed the title line to the out of print English version - nothing seems to work - two books of 'like' title have become joined at the hips. Philosophically speaking that's not so bad, because I know the Indonesian translations are of high standards, but I can't say that I have read or translated Winnetou into Indonesian, yet something insists that I did.
I'm trying to clean up my list of books (and it is a lot of work), but don't seem to be able to separate these two.
