I think that's why I got it on audio, despite the fact that I have the paperback.

Yes. It was still dense at times but I did make it through the book. Of course, I did fall asleep a few times but I was able to backtrack. In some ways it made the story mor alive to me. Tuchman was an excellent writer. Years ago I read her A Distant Mirror which I think was about the 1300s.
Sometimes it might be timing. I read (or tried to read) the less weighty, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Dick and gave up about 10 years ago or more. Read it a few years ago. Loved it! Very funny. Very good.I have a library copy of Guns of August, but have not tackled it yet...deep breath...
I think I had to check the audio out a couple of times. I think it was due back while I still had a few chapters to go.
