2014 is upon us, what are you challenging yourself to read this year?

message 2: by Tana (new)

Tana (tana_t) | 14676 comments Mod
This year I have set my Goodreads Reading Challenge at 200.

message 3: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Banks | 53 comments Mine is at 100

message 4: by Waffles - (new)

Waffles - Kelsey (waffles_library) | 15 comments Mine is up to 120...I tried 125 and didn't quite make it...I was close. So I dropped it down a little, but hopefully I can get more reading done this year :)

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) 250

I set 240 for 2013 and managed 270. So 250 seemed a reasonable goal.

message 6: by Josée (new)

Josée (josee-ireadalot) | 3 comments I don't challenge myself. In two years I downloaded and read more than 830 books and short stories on my Kindle so I don't want to set a higher number. I'm not bragging, it just shows how much time I spend on reading when I should probably be working... and spending time with my kids... and sleeping too...

Nucking Futs the Fire Fairy Book-a-holic (firefairyholic) Mine's just 140

"Just 140"? Do you realize how many that is? I know people who read four books a year and are happy with that. The main thing is: if you set your goal and reach it, more power to you!!!

message 10: by Laura (new)

Laura (dogsmomlaura) | 27 comments I am reading. My challenge is to log the books and do more reviews!

message 11: by Pankaj (new)

Pankaj Goyal (pgalmora) | 60 comments Mine is 75 this year.........:)

message 12: by Denise (new)

Denise MacDonald I've actually set my goal to read less. I set it for 66. I realized I spend way to much time reading and not enough time doing other things I enjoy. Plus, I want to get a little more healthy and that means spending time doing active things.

message 13: by Robert (new)

Robert Raker (robert_raker) | 16 comments I set my goal at 200 but I will be hard pressed to reach that. I just finished #1. I will keep everyone posted.

message 14: by JMV (new)

JMV (dboys) | 30 comments Mine is 250 also......

message 15: by Sadie (new)

Sadie Forsythe | 21 comments I challenged myself to 200.

I'm also doing B00kR3vi3w's Indiefever challenge.

message 16: by Ellen (new)

Ellen (ellenann) | 5 comments Mine is 201 this year. I am kinda slow getting started, only have 3 at this moment.

message 17: by MaryAnn (new)

MaryAnn (mapally) Going for 250. Didn't quite make it last year, so I need to make more time for the fun things in life.

message 18: by Mati (new)

Mati (matiraine) | 16 comments I set my goal at twenty this year because I know just how crazy busy it's going to be, but I'm hoping to get above and beyond that. Especially since I keep hearing about all these great new books that I want to take the time to pick up!

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris Arnone (chrismarnone) Shooting for 50. I did 60 last year and that was cutting it close. I really have no clue how those triple-digit numbers are achieved.

message 20: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 792 comments Definitely going to try and read a lot of the books on my self-published list of books. Lots of good authors so hope to make progress on that.

message 21: by Bev (new)

Bev Walkling | 26 comments I set for 125 last year and read 145. This year I didn't set my goal as high, but I've been sick since the new year and I've read 16 already so I suspect I will eaqual last years rate.

message 22: by Helena (new)

Helena Mallett (helenamallett) | 6 comments I've started the year well by just finishing the fantastic Collected Short Stories of Deborah Eisenberg (1000 pages!).
I'm not going to set a number of books but i would like to think at least two a month - and in particular my goal is to try reading new authors to me - and (gasp) dip my toe into genres i wouldn't normally read.

message 23: by William (new)

William Eck (williameck) | 1 comments 52 books, or one a week.

message 24: by Sheri, Bookworm (new)

Sheri | 6877 comments Mod
My goal is 250 for this year. That's what I read in 2013 even though my goal had only been 150 ;)

message 25: by Harmony (new)

Harmony Kent (harmonyk) Mine's set at 150 this year. I had 75 last year and achieved 139% ... I'm moving house soon, so I might have bitten off more than I can chew ... lol. Good luck everyone! :)

message 26: by Therin (new)

Therin Knite | 19 comments Set mine for 50. Between reading, writing, and school, I don't have time for any more than that.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Set my goal for 100.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy H (twinypa) my goal this year is 250

message 29: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Pearce (robertapearce) | 57 comments It's my first-ever reading challenge, so I low-balled it at 101. Now, I consider my use of the expression "low-ball" and think: Do I really think I'm going to get through 8.4 books a month?

LOL. I need to finish two more this month to stay on track, and it's going to be a struggle to hit that target . . . and it's been a pretty read-y month for me. What was I thinking? Argh. Must go read now.

message 30: by Kari (new)

Kari Hakkers (kairbear2468) | 6 comments Chris wrote: "Shooting for 50. I did 60 last year and that was cutting it close. I really have no clue how those triple-digit numbers are achieved."

Me either! I am totally blown away by those numbers - 50 is a goal for this girl! Great job to those that can exceed that - I am impressed!

message 31: by Denise (new)

Denise (nenegam) | 4 comments I figure a book a week for me is pretty good. That is why I picked 52 last year but I exceeded 52 so I increased a few books for the 2014 challenge. Gotta do more things then just read in my life. 99% of the books I select are over 200 pages not these books that are shorter then reports I've written for school. LOL

message 32: by L.J (Lisa Jane) (new)

L.J (Lisa Jane) (ljsecretaddiction) I've seen some people have the challenge posted on their blogs. I've looked all over GoodReads for the code but can't find it....anyone know where it may be?

Go to your profile page and click the 'edit profile' link at the top. You'll see tabs at the top of that page, and one of them says 'widgets.' That's the one you want. There are multiple to choose from, and they are customizable.

message 34: by L.J (Lisa Jane) (new)

L.J (Lisa Jane) (ljsecretaddiction) Ok thanks, i found those but not the one for the Goodreads challenge. Ill look again in case missed it - thanks tons :)

Sheri | 6877 comments Mod
It's on that same page. On mine it is the very last widget on the page.

message 36: by Sorcha (new)

Sorcha (nordie) | 21 comments i set myself 75 this year - I read 105 last year - but am already way behind :(

message 37: by Bella (new)

Bella Marie (bittenpillows) 160. i have a kindle and i have almost 1500 books in there. hopefully i will find more gems this year though 2013 was an awsome year conserning kindle gems....

message 38: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nicolels) 110, but I might increase that total at some point

message 39: by Robert (new)

Robert Raker (robert_raker) | 16 comments Sadly I will probably not make my set goal of 200 but I am going to read 100. I owe it to myself. Hope everyone is on pace with theirs. Happy reading!

message 40: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) 150 is mine x

message 41: by Ilana (new)

Ilana (iscm13) | 10 comments i set my goal for 150. last year i read closer to 200, but i'm afraid that i'll get upset if i'm not pacing well later in the year and end up skimming instead of really reading.

message 42: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) | 161 comments I'm not doing the widget but am reading 1 or more books a week until the end of the year.

I set mine @ 200 this year. Last year I set my goal @230 and I missed it by one. I am off to a good start 62 books read so far.

message 44: by Bella (new)

Bella Heart (bellaleeheart) I always forget to actually count how many books I read roughly 5-7 books a week so around 250 + a year.

message 45: by Miss Book Eater (new)

Miss Book Eater (veawen) Mine is set for 100 books this year - but I have a feeling I might top that...

message 46: by Kaila (last edited May 24, 2014 01:59PM) (new)

Kaila (kailak) my goal is 300.. i did 288 last year but added a kid this year *well late last year) so well see

You have read 121 of 300 books -thats what it says right now lol

message 47: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (irishapples) | 3 comments I did not set a number of books, but made a list of books that I would like to finish this year, that keep getting shuffled to the bottom of the pile. I am usually reading at least three books if not more at a time. I will have to go back and count to know how many I have finished this year, but if I were to say my goal for this year would be to read at least 100. I would like more hours in the day to read, to write, and to sew.

message 49: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 792 comments I have a dozen or so books by fellow Indie Authors that I really need to read. I'm reading one now but I feel as though I'm forcing myself but I'm going to keep reading it and keep it going. So for me, the Indie Author Book Challenge.
