I felt the same way. I'm pretty much neutral with any theme of M/M books. But with the constant, unexpected DNF status of most slavery-themed books I've read, I came to a conclusion that maybe this theme just doesn't work for me.
I don't worship Measure of Devotion, but it sure kept me going until the last page ^^ I've to say that it was quite an enjoying ride as well.
I was kinda bummed out with the cliff-hanger, though haha.

So when an author DOES think about it, it makes for a great read, but those are few and far between. Measures of Devotion is one of my favorites. The Captive Prince series is another.
And then there are those that I DNF and give one star ratings to. Slavery is not hot. It makes me feel sad that young women are seemingly getting so much enjoyment from reading about young men in such situations :(
