Sarah (m_sarah) | 13 comments A friend of mine, new on GoodReads, asked me how she could add two different editions of the same book to her owned books (talking about two Harry Potter editions, in two different languages).
And I froze.
I think it's not possible and I wonder why: since a lot of people on GoodReads are collectors who are likely to own several editions of a same book if they liked it.

But to make sure: is it possible to add two or more different editions of the same book to our owned books list?

Please and thank you.

Scott | 9022 comments Yes, it's possible. If you go to the other edition and look at your review section, you will see a link that says "review this edition." That will enable you to add it to your shelves, or even write a new review or rating (if you liked it differently the second time.)

Thank you very much!

Empress (the_empress) In fact even rating it or putting it on shelves will create a duplicate.

Won't that change the existing rating? I think I used to do it that way before I discovered the other, and it was kind of tricky getting it the way I meant it to be.

It seems obvious now but I had not think about it.
Thank you for your very quick responses.

No. I had a big import that had rating info and it rated a lot of books I haven't actually read. Going to the most popular edition and clearing the ratings added duplicates for me without removing the rating from the edition that was rated.
Note: rating an edition does not move it to the read shelf.

Even changing the shelves from another editions page creates duplicates.
