Luka lifted his head up from his book. Somehow, the room was nearly full of initiates. He must have zoned out for a while.
River glanced over at somebody who appeared to have been sleeping on a book.
((No, Evelina. We're excluding you. Jk, jk.))

Mae watched the others, smiling slightly, then went back to her book.
River laughed at the expression on Catron's face.
"Huh? Yeah. I needed to go to the library." He muttered, looking up from his book. He was pretty close to finishing it, having spent all this time doing qualiy reading.
Xander frowned overhearing Catron. He wasn't sure if anyone was overhearing them, but if they were he was sure that Catron was losing some points in the initiation for admitting that.
River turned to Catron. "Yeah, how on Earth could you not like reading?" Then he mouthed, so the others couldn't see, 'I don't like reading, either.'
Well, now Bekah was looking at him weird. Apparently he wasn't good at keeping his own secrets. Ah, well, he'd just have to be careful with the big ones.
((If only he were Oliver, from Amity... Then he could be so oblivious.))River followed obediently. When he realized he was following some girl's orders, he stopped for a second. Since when was he obedient?!?
"You see, Bekah, that's why I mouthed it. So that you wouldn't have to hear me and so Catron wouldn't feel alone. For your information, reading is actually something I enjoy fine, I just felt like he should have somebody on his side, because nobody should need to feel alone on anything," River said seriously, turning to go back inside.
River had not missed this. "Wait, what?!?" he exclaimed, turning back around and staring at her.

River recognized this as one of those awkward moments where in a novel, because he actually did read them, the boy was expected to lean over, say something cheesy, and then kiss the girl. But, nope. This was most certainly not a novel. "Well that's very nice of you..." He cringed. "Urgh... That politeness thing, again..."
"Okay, inside we go. Onward," River said, turning.
((Only a little... XD I felt like being a Weasley twin and saying "Just trying to diffuse the tension."))Well, that had been interesting. Most girls were more subtle, but whatever. River calmly slipped back into the seat he had previously occupied.
River laughed. "Nonexistent," he replied to Catron's joke.
"Hey, guys!" River announced to the whole room in retaliation, "Catron doesn't like to read!"
"Yeah, you will," River rolled his eyes, "Quit over-reacting. There are only about four other people in this room, and they aren't the instructors."
Branden felt his face pale. Would someone really do that? Turn someone in? Just to be on top? Would he do that? He sure hoped not.
"Really?" River asked skeptically, "I believe that we have talked to all of the people who are currently present, and nobody seems anything less than pleasant."
Xander suddenly felt afraid and paranoid. What if someone actually did start turning people I'm? Could he really trust these people in this room?
"Well, yes, I've lied to you guys at least-" River wondered why the heck he had said that. "Um, never, but I don't know what would make people act nice..."
River snorted. "I don't act nice!" He realized his mistake. "What? I've never lied to you!" he lied.
"Pssh... NO!" he exclaimed, "I would make a perfect Candor!"
"Like anyone would die during Erudite initiation." Branden snorted.
"Of course it's a game! Life is just a game! You live, you reproduce, and then you die, and all you hope for is to leave your mark! But does nobody here want to enjoy it, too? You guys seem to act as if... as if you're trapped inside a house, hiding from everything!" River nearly hit himself; he had just described his sister's situation exactly.
River bit his lip, placing his head in his palm.
"I wasn't explaining anything!" River exclaimed much too quickly, ignoring Bekah.
"No, no... It's fine," River waved off her apology. "I'm just... stressed?" he tried it out on his tongue. "Yeah, no, I'm just worried."
"Not about me, about..." River tried to explain without telling her, but he couldn't, so he just stopped speaking.
"Just... my family, back in Dauntless. My sisters- I mean sister..." River pinched his leg, hard. He'd just messed up, just like he'd thought he would.
River just shook his head. "You yourself told me there were cameras."
"Urrrrgh..." he groaned, lifting his head out of his hands. "Please just understand..." he added in a softer tone.((I feel like he gets grumpier and grumpier as I get more and more tired... I'll have to go soon... I wake up for school in... three hours... XD))
"Okay," he lied. He'd never be ready...((Adios, muchachos! Or however the heck you spell that............................Urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so tired! Be glad I leave now, rather than wait, and have River have some massive mood swing that leads him on a killing spree...))
River listened quietly to their conversation.
River wasn't looking at Bekah, just staring at his desk.
"Nah, don't be. It's not you," River repeated from earlier.
"But we're from Dauntless," River pointed out, "That doesn't bother me."
River snorted. "Respect me? That would be a sad mistake!"
River laughed. "I'm too... me to deserve people's respect."
