I ask because I have been attempting to write two novels for the past 1.5 years. So far, I am half way finished with one, and have barely begun my second...

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I am writing also, and heading on vacation starting tomorrow and hopefully will get tons of writing done.

I am finding that as I go along, other characters from the story want their story told as well. I end up writing bits and pieces about everyone so i don't forget.

Adrienne | 286 comments i'm writting too!::but not a far as either of you::my story comes to me in bursts::so i have to make sure i've a notebook and pencil with me all the time::sometimes the story is so quick i don't get time to write it all down::i'm thinking of joining a creative writing class::but worried that it will influence what i write::whilst i'd appriciate constructive critisism::i wouldn't want someone to re-write my work just b/c they didn't like the style::

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish That's a big issue for me too, Adrienne. I want to know if something doesn't make sense, or if there are words missing, misspelled, grammatical errors, etc...but when people start saying "I would say it this way..." then they aren't being objective, they are just being critical.

Oh, god. Don't do a creative writing class. Sorry. I took one about 6 years ago and it completely ruined me for writing. It took me years to enjoy writing again. The instructor for the course was terrible. He was supposed to be a creative writing teacher, but he only liked poetry. So, anyone who wrote something other than poetry was not helped. :( It was sad. If you do take one...find out about the instructor first.

This is a website where you can post your writing. You critique other peoples writing, and receive points. Then you can post your own work, and will receive feedback from others. It is for all genres. Also you can pick what kind of feedback you want. For ex. If you only want feedback on your grammar, or you want feedback on everything...

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I've been warned to be very careful about posting any work you're seriously considering having published because many publishers then consider it already published and won't touch it.

Before doing any serious posting, check the possible impact.

I've never heard that. James Clemens suggested that site to me...I've only posted one short story that I wrote while I was in high school.

I wont let anyone see my current novels until I am sure that they are top notch. LOL Other than my hubby, that is. He actually helped me do the research for my fantasy novel, and even helped me with some ideas. :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I don't like to pass mine around either. My editor/reader/author/friend, Dee Marie is the one who told me to be very careful posting anything that I want to seriously consider publishing.
Everyone has a different opinion, I guess.
Have you been to the Write in 2009 group? There are a lot of authors over there and great information!

I'll have to check it out! :) I'm wary of someone stealing my work. After all, I have worked my butt off on my fantasy novel...it would feel like someone stealing my soul.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish That's one reason why publishers are hesitant. You wrote it first, but someone else can claim it then cry plagerism and that opens up a whole nasty can of worms for the publishers.

Adrienne | 286 comments thank for the low down on creative writting classes::you've confirmed my suspicions ladies::like moi says things need to be objective::once someone statrs messing with your brain about how you write::it's no longer *you*::

i didn't realize the impact of posting work:{::of course once it's in print:: whether traditional or electronic:: and public::it's published::

i have a pnr going which i believe is quite unique::and i really wouldn't dream about letting anyone read it in full::b/c i haven't read anything even vaguely similar i'd be really wary::

i don't really like reading the same type of story that i'm wrting either as i feel i could become *influenced* even subconsciously::

moi:write 2009::that sounds interesting ::will have look over there::

My best friend was in the creative writing course with me. She was very big into writing childrens books, but the teacher didn't like childrens books. She wanted a good grade so she changed her genre to suit him. She was still a great writer either way, but it made me want to pop him one...She should have been able to write what she wanted w/o having to worry whether he liked the genre or not...:(

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I think it's important to know how to take advice while maintaning your own voice. And if you have people reading your work who just want to change it, they are not the people you want reading your work. It's your voice and if you do whatever people want you to do, it becomes their voice.

Adrienne | 286 comments One of my characters has just taken a very surprising turn. They've literally grabbed the pen and taken themselves off in a direction that i really never would have anticipated. It's very exciting.

Ida Suyanto | 21 comments I'm writing too, with a lot of plot changing, rewrite and still far from published.

Adrienne | 286 comments Hi Sai, My work is only in it's very first stages. I've written lots of short peices in the hope that one will jump out to me and now one has finally taken hold. I'm finding with this one that the characters are telling me their story, so I'm really excited. Although their story (in some cases) is most definately not the one i had in my head originally.

I have been having writers block for a while. I know it was stress. :(
I got in a huge mood to write tonight. I decided to begin editing the first half of my book...So far...so good! :)
Once I am finished editing the first half, I'm going to have my husband read/critique it, while I write the second half...
Are all you guys still writing?

Adrienne | 286 comments I've joined you with writers block Joy...my characters just stopped talking to me altho it could be because I've put them away in draw and they've got the huf with me....problem is tho I have a couple shouting out me where ever I go to tell their story....i have the first part of it in my head for some time now, the story doesn't change, the plot doesn't change, but the dialogue between them is getting better and better. I should get it all typed out, but I love the GR write a story on my profile but don't know if the couple is right for there.

Good luck! :) If you ever need someone to bounce ideas off of...you know where to find me. :) I would def. write down the story though, so you don't forget anything.

Adrienne | 286 comments Oh I've written an interview with them....they asked me if I'd like to do it an I said yes, they told me their stories, then a friend of theirs popped by and he got talking to me too....but he was a lot more vocal, so his story's there now!

LOL I don't have the problem with the different characters wanting their stories told, but I have the problem with ideas for new stories constantly popping in my head. I had to make a folder on my computer dedicated to "future stories". LOL It's the only way I can get them out of my mind. I just write down every idea that pops in my head! :)

Adrienne | 286 comments I had stories coming at me from everywhere but the characters weren't talking to me in the same way that this couple are, it was as tho' I was there as an observer, these were the stories I never got very far with, then quite out of the blue I had this couple in my mind, and they were vocal which was abit of a shock really because writers talk about this all the time and until it happens it doesn't quite mean anything to you. OMG all this sounds slightly mad, anyway I don't really plot the story too much because they just tell it the way it is. I have had to question them all sometimes to try and establish if I've understood something correctly.
