message 301: by Eve (new)

Eve (emmalilies) | 7 comments I'm a bookaholic, my mum would like it if I got rid of some of my books (no way!). I like genres like science fiction, mystery, romance, historic and a couple others :) What I love the most though is old books, with yellow pages and the typical old paper smell!

message 302: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello, I'm Samantha and i'm new to goodreads. I love to read and i find theirs nothing better then losing myself in a good book but unfortunately i'm not a speed reader. I enjoy most genres but Fantasy, Thriller and Mystery are my favourite. Looking forward to being a part of this group.

message 303: by Luke (new)

Luke (korrick) Merry Christmas everyone! I just recently joined this group in hopes of finding good books to add to me TBR list. My favorite genre is fantasy, with historical fiction a close second, but I'm up to reading anything so long as it looks interesting.

message 304: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Welcome, Merry Christmas, and Happy Boxing Day to you, Aubrey!

I have been reading more fantasy than usual, lately. I really enjoyed The Crown Conspiracy and am working my way through A Game of Thrones and the rest of The Song of Fire and Ice.

Marc Johnson (marcjohnsonbooks) | 2 comments Hell-O,
Dig reading books and writing them. Suppose everyone else here does, too. Have one pretentious novel under my belt, and I'm currently working on another (with 50% more pretentiousness). Favorite topics include; good books, fantasy, humor, poetry, (whatever the hell Cormac McCarthy is), philosophy [Camus, Hegel, Plato (and Play-Doh), Heidegger, etc], And SCIENCE! About to explore Thomas Bernhard (probably pretty much rotted to the core by now) and see where that takes me.

Terri (terrijd) | 209 comments Hi, everyone!I just joined this group last night. It seems like a great place to discuss books. And finally I'll be around people that love to read as much as I do. My tastes include just about everything, as long as the story remains interested after the first few chapters.

message 313: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Shimotakahara (lshimo) Nice to meet you all! I am an ex lit prof and writer with wide reading interests - thus my desire to join this group. I enjoy reading all kinds of novels, but particularly those that have inspired me at low points in my life. I'm currently completing my memoir THE READING LIST: LITERATURE, LOVE, AND BACK AGAIN (to be published in fall 2011). It's about an exhausted English professor who leaves her job in academia to return home to her parents, and tries to get closer to her retired father (who has his own crisis to deal with), by creating a reading list of important books for the two of them to discuss as a way to get closer to him and uncover the secret of what led to his crisis. More information about my book and the books I'm reading can be found at my blog www.the-reading-list.com

I'm a fan of all book genre's and my book tastes run all over the map, but I'm more interested in fiction at this point in my life. I hope to use this group as a way to discover new books and people.

Hi Shirley. I have a question for you. I was wondering what you think about the Kindel, I'm in the market for an e-reader and I was looking at the Kindel but I just thought that I would ask what someone who has one thought of it.

I really love my Kindle. I have a hard cover on it so it feels like a book when you hold it. The battery lasts a long time too. I like the screen and find it soothing on the eyes. I also like the variety of books that are available in this format. And I can also read on my iphone if I so desire (great when waiting in a doctor's office).

message 334: by Beanie (new)

Beanie (amoeboid) | 33 comments Hello, my name is Beanie. =]

I just joined goodreads over the weekend, & I have to say that I'm glad that I did! As a child, I always had my nose in some book or another, & often read from cover to back within a day. As I got older, I became busier & busier & eventually lost interest in books all together. Recently, I decided to give books a try again & rented some out from the local library this weekend.

I'd love to meet & interact with some new, interesting people! <3

Paula Martin (paulahmartin) Hi Everyone,

I'm a librarian and I have joined Goodreads in the hopes of chronicling my thoughts on books I have read and also finding out what other people are reading and their impressions. I couldn't pass this group up! I enjoy many genres of fiction and also many nonfiction subjects. I can't wait to hear about everyone's book passions, and nose around their bookshelves (that sounds creepy but isn't).

message 341: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Beanie and Michelle!

Welcome Paula!

message 346: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Dent (kellythebookbug) | 10 comments Hey there everyone. I'm pretty new to this website and I've never been part of a book club - online or in real life. What can I say? Name's Kelly and I'm a major bookworm/bibliophile. Nothing makes me happier than adding new books to my shelves, and there is no feeling quite like the one I get when I'm totally immersed in a book - it's utter bliss. My love for books started off with Enid Blyton's "Famous Five" and "Secret Seven". Right now, I'm at University studying for a Bachelor of Arts (honours) in English - my homework involves reading...a lot :D
My favourite books seem to be dystopic novels such as The Handmaid's Tale and 1984, but I love all kinds of novels.
Also - I'm addicted to Goodreads. Nice to meet you all!
