Gapeach | 4 comments Hey, I'm Cindy. I joined on Friday, but had to pick my daughter up from school and never posted. I love to read, always have. But I never have anyone to talk to about the books I read. I finally found this site and am glad to be here.

William (uncledonut) | 7 comments Welcome Cindy. I know the feeling but you should enjoy this site and group a lot then. Glad to have you as part of the crew, lass :P YAr!

Gapeach | 4 comments Thanks Will. I see you're fairly new here as well. Seems to be a good place for people who can't be with out a book.

Hi All. I am an avid reader of almost anything and everything. My social life suffers terribly cos i would rather tuck-in with a book.... mmm I know.... not good. I look forward to sharing books and views with you all.

Barbara (moochgoddess) | 92 comments Hey everyone! My name is Barbara. I am new to the group (obviously). I pretty much will read anything I can get my hands on, unless it makes me fall asleep.

And Bev, I know how you feel. I went over to my boyfriends house while I was in the middle of the Vampire Academy series... Oh the decision to put the books down were not chosen by me. I think he was a little jealous over a book if you ask me.

Welcome Bev, Barbara (glad you accepted my invite), and Fiona!

TheReadingKnitter/ Kasey (thereadingknitter) Hey...I'm new to the group but not to goodreads. I really want to find a group where I can post messages and the group not be so huge that nobody knows me. Know what I mean? haha. Anyhow, I love to read anything I can get my hands on and I always have a book with me. My favorite authors are VC Andrews, Jodi Picoult & Dean Koontz. I'm 26 and from North Carolina, USA. I'm married and have been for about 2 years. I'm a library reader most of the time. I rarely buy books unless they are children's books. But I love having books all around me. I feel safe when books are around. Anyone else like that? I'm rambling so that's about me...Want to know more please feel free to ask...

message 165: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello,

I don't think I have introduced myself yet. One of my friends invited me to join so here I am.♥

My name is Joyce and I'm a 22-year old Filipino working as an Investment Banker. Aside from reading, I also enjoy traveling, photography, coffee, and sports such as F1 and Tennis.

I'm a voracious reader and I'm not discriminating with book genres. I love to read romance, fantasy, young-adult, mystery, general fiction, and I'm trying to work my way through classics and historicals.

Among my favorite authors include Jane Austen, JK Rowling, Audrey Niffenger, Lois Lowry, Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas, Khaled Hosseini and Madeleine L'Engle.

It's nice meeting you all. ♥ I'm looking forward to book recommendations from everyone.

Happy Reading!

Sorry, I haven't been on the group much lately. I haven't been feeling too well. I finally updated the group reads, and I'll put up some new polls for them soon. :)

Thanks NU and Bev. :)
I actually do feel a little better today. I think I've been feeling ill, because my body is fighting to heal (at least thats what I've been told). I got a nasty third degree burn recently, and ever since I have been totally exhausted! It's healing nicely though, and I woke up today feeling pretty good. :)

message 172: by [deleted user] (new)

That is nasty Joy; I would imagine it is a shock to the system. Good to know you are much better.

message 173: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (bamamom) | 27 comments Joy, I'm glad your're feeling better. Getting over a burn takes some time and it does take a lot out of you. I remeber when my Dad got burned at work one time on both his arms. Took a while for him to feel better. Just take your're time and don't overdo.

message 174: by J.D. (new)

Thanks. Today was the second day that I felt pretty good so hopefully the exhaustion is over! :)

I missed my Goodreads buddies!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Oh, bless your heart, Joy. I didn't know you were sick. I got 1st and 2nd degree burns on my hand last year. It was pretty bad. I had to wear bandages for about three weeks. I'm still traumatized when I see the hot water sterilizers at work. Big hug to you cause I know 3rd is even worse.

Carol (goodreadscomcarolann) Hi everyone!
I'm Carol from Connecticut, married with 3 children -1 in college, 2 recent grads and no jobs yet! 11 years ago I went on disability due to major health issues (Lupus++). I read all the time -- when I'm well I also paint, write and volunteer at an art museum. Like to read a variety of different genres, love the narrative as well as the physical book (especially old books). Looking forward to meeting everyone and discussing Robin Mc Kinley's Beauty.

message 184: by Oneirae (new)

Oneirae Hello! I've been reading sooo much lately! It's become insane, really. (I've been at 4 books a week for two months now) But hey, I work in a bookstore! I've just devoted an entire room to my library, though it is in a constant state of re-organization! We all need a hobby or two, right? In my case I don't have time for all of mine! My favorite genre is fantasy, particularly original fantasy (for example, not based on typical Tolkien-type world). I love historical fiction, though. I have a degree in Classics (Greek and Latin), so obviously I like the ancient times best, but I do step out of it often. This year I've taken a huge dive into the Romance genre, something I had never really done before. I like fiction, particularly philosophical fiction and especially Hindu fiction. I love anything with a 'paranormal' aspect to it. My favorite science fiction series is Dune, which in many ways acts more like a fantasy series. I am a huge Star Wars nerd as well, though I've fallen way behind on the books. I've been writing since I was 9 years old (31 now), though nothing published. One day perhaps? I write poetry, fiction, and, of course, fantasy.

And obviously I babble at times. ;)

message 185: by new_user (new)

new_user Hey, Oneira! Welcome to the group! I love original fantasy too! Don't care for Tolkein types. Historical fantasy is one of my favorites. And paranormal romance. :D

Another Newbie! Yup that is me. I've been surfing through goodreads this past month and enjoying all of the recommendations and warm welcomes. However, of course, I fine myself being what my friend calls a "book slut". I read more then one book at a time. I also don't like to be limited to just one genre. This group seems to fit perfectly for me. ;-)

The group reads are optional. If the book sounds interesting to you, go ahead and read it and join the discussion. If not, thats okay. Oh, and if there is something that you want to discuss, but no one started a discussion for it, you can start a thread. :) It takes a while to learn to navigate goodreads, so email me if you get confused. :)

Welcome Elyssa! I love most genre's too. I go through stages where I just want to read romance, and a month later all I want to read is fantasy. Right now I'm in the paranormal romance and historical romance stage... :) I hope you enjoy the group!

Jerry Travis (jerrytravis) | 16 comments Hi. My name is Jerry Travis. I'm an author and I'm glad to see that a group like this exists on Goodreads. I hate the entire concept of genre and view it as marketing intruding into the realm of the artist. I write the same way and have shocked at least one reader when a time traveling submarine suddenly appeared in the middle of what she thought was an 18th century historical fiction novel.

message 198: by Pam (new)

Pam | 23 comments Way to go Jerry! I love it when authors do that. Welcome to Goodreads.

message 199: by Jerry (new)

Jerry Travis (jerrytravis) | 16 comments Thanks Pam. It's always good to get reassurances that I'm not crazy. I too like books that shock you out of your complacency by presenting you with new ideas, new possibilities. That's what I think science fiction should be; a way to examine the ramifications of different possibilities before we're actually faced with them. The sad truth is that technology is moving so fast we're suddenly starting to do things that nobody has even fantasized about.
