Hi Dee Dee!
Hello fellow bookworms,I became an avid reader of visionary fiction and nonfiction including fantasy and science fiction as an eleven-year-old boy when my next-door neighbor, who was a children’s librarian, took pity on my single-parent mom.
Bored out of my gourd with no one to play with but good ‘ol mom, I drove her crazy until Mrs. Crabtree brought home a stack of books she knew would hook a young boy and give my mom some relief. It worked. I’ve been hooked ever since.
Now, several decades later, I maintain a stack of books next to my beds as well as writing visionary fiction and nonfiction and coaching other aspiring writers to do the same.
I'm in the midst of giving away 1,000 copies of my book for aspiring writers, From Spark to Flame:
Fanning Your Passion & Ideas into Money-making Magazine Articles that Make a Difference. (you can learn more about that here under the 'Book Giveaway' section.)
Glad to be here among my peeps.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group and to the site! Reading's been a passion of mine for many, many years now and it's great to be in the company of so many other bibliophiles. I'm willing to give any book a try, but my favorites tend to be fantasy and science fiction. I would like to say I'm an aspiring writer, but I think that's a bit misleading as I don't have anything written but a few old poems and random chunks of stories here and there. I'm hoping the chance to meet other writers might give me a bit of motivation and a push in the right direction. I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I'll read almost anything with adventure and romance in it!!!
Do you like Georgette Heyer?
Heylo!! Just joined the group today. I love to read which is obvious or I wouldn't be on here. I read just about anything. And I mean anything!!!
D.d. put me onto Heyer a week or two ago, and I'm now a fan. I started with a $1.99 Regency volume; now I've read 3 or 4. The situations are standard, but the characters and dialogue are what hooked me. She's great fun. Haven't tried any of her mysteries.

Oh hard, WF! One of the things I like most about Gorgie Heyer is her sense of humor: you could start with 'Convenient Marriage' it was the first I ever read and got me hooked--I loved Pell and Pom!!! They had me laughing until I cried!
If you do read it I'd love to hear what you thought of it!

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah thank you for the invite, I don't get online very often, but I'll try to participate whenever I can. (=
Hi everyone,I'm Kat, an Aussie that's been living in the Netherlands for the last 3 years. I've loved reading since I was a little girl (I've got three brothers and needed the escape)!. I've spent most of this year reading horror, zombie and post-apocalyptic novels, with some other random things thrown in. I've always loved historical fiction and contemporary literature, so I'm looking for some inspiration to get my reading tastes back to a more broad range!
D.d. wrote: "Hi Sarah! What genres do you like best? Hi Kat! Do you like Georgette Heyers Historicals?"
I'd never heard of her before *blushes*!

I love her stories! She has so much humor, I can remember reading my very first 'Convenient Marriage' and laughing so much over Pel and Pom!!!

Hello, I'm new to joining the whole group thing, but I need somemore like minded book lovers in my life!! I've moved to a very small town (physically and mentally) recently and the book clubs here are not much my cup of tea, as books that are only "church" approved seem to be on the reading list.I read almost all genres, but kinda favor sci fi/fantasy the most these days. And I admit my Kindle is with me at all times because you never know when the kids will grace you with nice quite play time and give you a moment to read a few pages!! LOL
welcome everyone... :D Sandra here. whenever any of u want to do a read a long call on me I love to do them.. :DApril I love your motto my kindle is never to far from me either.. I even got the kindle app on my phone!! like u said u never know where u will have a few minutes to read!! :D

Georgette Heyer???
Probably best to start with 'Convenient Marriage', Pel and Pom are sooooooo funny.
'These old shades' is good, it has a great mystery and a lot of humor, as do most Heyers. It has a follow on book 'Devil's Cub', but I could never quiet forgive Georgie for what she did to Rupert in the second book!!!
My top picks are:
Cotillion
Fridays child
The unknown ajax. But these stories do not contain the usual Heyer Hero, who is suave, quite a bit older than the heroine worldly wise and cynical.....but then I think thats why I like them so much! These guys have faults, weakness and sometimes make themselves look pretty silly!!!! I've done reviews if it helps:

'The Reluctant Widow' is quiet tense almost a thriller in a not too overt way!
Hope this helps!!!
Thanks for the welcome SANDRA and D.d. I just finished Prophets of the Ghost Ants and can't rave enough about it. Very sci-fi, but also has elements that I think those who may not be big sci-fi buffs would still enjoy. I'll check out The Sooner...
I am new to Goodreads (even though I signed up a while ago before my book came out) and saw this group. I'm not even sure how I got here. However, HI! I will figure this out but will probably get lost a time or two. Be patient and reach out a hand now and again. Thanks.
SANDRA___What's it about?? Well, and just go with me on this, it's 10 thousand years into the future and humankind has evolved into beings smaller than ants. Compared to us ants are like the size of elephants and different tribes dwell (and parasite off) various types of ants, some humans tribes have choosen to use other insects as well. The religious leaders of each community have caused fear, worship, wars, genocide, and every other sick thing that they pretty much do in our time.
The book is long and would be hard to sum it all up, but it is full of vivid descriptions that really pull you into this "new world." I couldn't put it down, sorry I'm not much of a writer myself, so my reviews tend to suck!! haha
