John Allen (johnpaulallen) | 33 comments I thought I did this yesterday, but can't seem to find it ... if so I apologize. My name is John and I write stuff. I also read stuff, which is why I'm here. My biggest fault is commenting too much, so I'll try to keep that down. Nice meeting everyone. :)

Dalia Hi Pat- I recently read the obituary of a man who spent many years collecting/recording oral stories in Appalachia - the recordings are all now at the Library of Congress in DC- I would start by searching their archives to find the writers who specialized in Appalachian history. Good luck!

Pat wrote: "Thanks for accepting me into the group! I'm a life-long avid reader, but new to Goodreads. I have no "favorite" genres, I just go with the flow. I enjoy suspense, thrillers, detective stories, fan..."

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 2233 comments Hi Pat,
Although David Baldacci's book Wish You Well is fiction it includes many of the habits and customs of Applalachian type living.
It is different than any other of his books and I think you might find it charming. I think it would be available at the library too.
I loved it so much am going to read it again.

message 456: by Barbara (new)

Barbara (barbarajov) | 2 comments Hi Everyone! I'm Barbara and I'm hunkered down, surrounded by good books, waiting for spring. My “go-to” reads are horror and crime thrillers, but I’m always looking to expand my horizons (and TBR list). After a few months, I’m still a bit of a newbie to Goodreads. Love the site, groups and like-minded readers. Glad to find this group as well.

DeAnna Stanley (awesumteach) | 22 comments I love to read any and all genres. I do tend to pick horror, fantasy, thriller and historical fiction though when I'm visiting the library!

Bella Gordon (bellagordon) | 1 comments Hi everyone,

OK, I admit it. I’m a total, incurable book junky, who gets withdrawals if I don’t get my daily fix, and so it’s great to have found a group for people who share my addiction. I’ll read pretty much anything, from women’s fiction and young adult, to thrillers and paranormal. So long as it’s a great story and not too heavy-going (I read for pleasure, not self improvement) I’ll snap it up! Among my favourite authors are Penny Vincenzi, Philippa Gregory, James Patterson, Jessica Chambers, Cassandra Clare and J.K. Rowling. I can’t wait to start getting to know you all and chat books!

Bella

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 375 comments Right on, Elizabeth! Goodreads is a fantastic place to meet fellow book junkies and to also discover great new authors. Since I've been on here, I've been on a book buying tear that borders on obsessive! Welcome to everyone who has recently joined. You've come to the right place if you love books!

Chris (chrishobson) | 1 comments Hi! I accidentally started two Goodreads accounts (don't ask me how that happened), so I'm joining up through this acct. now. I like YA and adult fiction, my favorite books being Coraline (big Neil Gaiman fan), The Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe, and Jitterbug Perfume. Happy to be aboard!

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Hello, glad to find another good group! I am an aspiring author and I perform book reviews to support my reading habit. I read a wide variety of books from sci-fi to urban fantasy from Thrillers to Historical romances. I even dabble in Non-fiction. I recently completed a book review on "To Believe or Not To Believe" By Rahasya Poe ( You can check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S23SKn... )

Why Thank you, Roseann!!! I got tired of watching a lot of the reviewers on Youtube, because I have some ADD tendencies and when people just talk at you for five or more minutes... well, there is a reason monologues aren't big in films!! I thought the images make it more interesting and keeps the person's attention. It takes WAY longer, but I think it is worth it! Besides, I've found a bunch of people to give me free books for it, which feeds my addiction quite nicely!!! If you have a youtube account, you should friend me so it will tell you whenever I have a new upload (since they are not "regular". If not, it is really easy to create one. Or if you are on FB, you can friend me there. I always post them there as soon as I am done!!

Kerri (kerrimcbooknerd) Hello, all! I'm Kerri and I'm new to Goodreads. I've been exploring the site and decided that joining a group seemed like a swell idea. Seeming as my taste in books is all over the place, I figured a group that catered to all the different genres would be a good idea, so here I am! Currently I'm on a classics kick, though I enjoy everything from fantasy to travel memoirs. I'm always open to suggestions, too! I like to try new things, so I'll pretty much read anything that someone recommends to me, haha.

Anyways! Hi again and happy to be here :)

Rachel wrote: "Just to say Hello everyone! And hope I'll enjoy GR like you all seem to. I'm very excited to be here!"

Warning: GR is addictive! lol I joined in 2009 and I am still addicted to it. It's a great way to keep track of all the books you want to read, but are unlikely to find the time for, because you list grows faster than you can read. lol

message 484: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Lopes (rachellopes) LOL. Thanks for the warning, I already have too many addictions (books REALLY included). My want-to-read list is already so huge, I don't really know what I'd do if it grew anymore... but thanks anyway.
I liked the "swap book" thing but I don't have kindle or anything like it, and I live in Portugal, so I guess it won't be for me, right?

message 485: by Silverunicorn (new)

message 490: by Cory (new)

Cory Lamontagne | 15 comments Hi, I'm Cory. I'm a bibliophile. I read anything. Ok, that's a lie I won't read romance. I don't have an e-reader because I can't flip through the pages and smell my book. (Among other reasons.) As long as you are open minded, feel free to chat me up about anything.

Currently reading A Canticle For Leibowitz and If on a Winter's Night a Traveler just showed up at the library so that's next. ;)

Cheers!

message 493: by Gothica Noctua (new)

Gothica Noctua (gothicanoctua) I'm Hannah. I'm 20 and I'm from Leeds, England.

In general, I love books that can make me laugh, and I often read humour novels that have sci-fi or fantasy settings. My favourite authors include Sir Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Robert Rankin and Sue Townsend.

I also love the theatre and read plays quite a lot - two of my favourite playwrights are William Shakespeare (no, seriously, I read his stuff for FUN!) and Tennessee Williams.

I love to read and have way too many books in my TBR pile! I have books everywhere in my house and I enjoy reading most genres. For a while now I've been mostly reading historical romances and PNR but recently I've gotten into a post-WWII fiction phase and more 'historical' fiction.
