I thought it was pretty good. There were some slow spots in the beginning, but it picked towards the end.

I love Francesca Lia Block. She writes so oddly, it's amazing. :) I just got Bellman & Black! Hoping to read it soon.

Jocelin | 295 comments Charleen wrote: "Off to a great start! I'm curious what you thought of Bellman & Black."

I was really looking forward to reading this one and I was a little disappointed. It started off well but, by the end I lost interest.

message 17: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I was disappointed as well. After waiting so long for a second novel from Setterfield, this one was just not for me. I know other readers who really enjoyed it though.

I enjoyed Under The Never Sky. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I liked Juliet Immortal, looking forward to reading Romeo Redeemed. I too, was sadden by the Night Circus. I was expecting a little more.

message 21: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I have Under the Never Sky out from the library right now, and I have the other two waiting for me on hold which I'm going to pick up today. It's hard, especially with popular series, to manage to get them all out at the same time so I can read them back-to-back-to-back the way I like, but I'm glad this one worked out. I plan to read them this week.

I hope the series remains really strong. I have read one series (Matched) that started with such promise and quickly disappointed me.

message 23: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments I read the series this week. I didn't love it, but I'm not really big into YA so I'm not exactly the target audience. The important thing is that I liked all three books about the same. I know what you mean about series that start strong and then go downhill, and I was happy that didn't happen with this one.

message 24: by Elyse, Moderator (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8830 comments Mod
Jocelin, I agree, Matched didn't stay strong throughout the trilogy. Neither did the Delirium trilogy, to me. I did love The Under the Never Sky trilogy! And the Across the Universe trilogy by Beth Revis is also excellent!

message 25: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 295 comments I wondered about the Across The Universe trilogy. That is good to hear. I may have to check it out at my library. Thank you.

message 28: by Jocelin (new)

Jocelin | 295 comments Charleen wrote: "What did you think of Divergent?"

I thought Divergent was wonderful! I was mad that it took me so long to read it. I was completely enthralled by the book. I saw the movie as well and I enjoyed it. There were some cuts made in the movie, but the heart of the novel was still there.
Sorry for the long delay.

message 46: by Jocelin (last edited Dec 31, 2014 08:49PM) (new)

Jocelin | 295 comments Wow! I can't believe that I did it. This year was a really tough challenge for me. Earlier I started with a lot of potential but this summer, I was really struggling to pick up a book and read. Got a little more momentum this fall and started again. Thank you to everyone that said that I could do it! I really appreciated the encouragement. Looking forward to 2015! Got a stack of books with my name on it.
