I think I'll give the graphic novel a miss but the book sounds good. Yes, Steve Moore's book is based on the screen play, so the audio version followed the movie story exactly.
What was really a revelation to me was the impact of SEEING the things in the movie. (view spoiler) Interesting too, how much emotion Hugo Weaving could convey just from his body language and stances. It could not have been easy to speak those lines wearing the mask the whole time. They must have recorded his lines later. After all, they did not have to worry about making his lips sink with the lines. ;)

LOL Sarah, that sounds fun indeed! I already have Patient Zero on my TBR list.

I'm currently reading my last Mickey book, The Mammoth Book Of Extreme Science Fiction. Very enjoyable! I like short stories in general, and in this collection they seem to be especially well chosen, at least the first four ones. I don't think I will be able to finish it before the toppler starts, though. The font size is really small, my middle-aged eyes have a bit of trouble with it even with my reading glasses. Would like to finish Mickey, since I have some really tempting ones in the Roadrunner's section.

I also recently finished Shoggoths in Bloom and other stories, it was also very good, I hadn't read anything by Elizabeth Bear earlier.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started Books Can Be Deceiving for the monthly challenge.

message 1155: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Count of Monte Cristo for the chunkster challenge and a buddy read. I loved it, it has become one of my favourite classics of all time. An easy 5 star rating for me.

I am also just over halfway through Sherlock: A Study in Scarlet for the monthly challenge.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I guess I am currently reading it. For anyone interested in why books smell and what makes up that smell

message 1160: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Currently enjoying The Yard. Just finished The River of Souls which I enjoyed and liked the way the ends sets up for a book 6. All said and done I just don't think it was as strong as the previous 4 books

Ooh! I really enjoyed The Yard. Are you listening to the audio? I thought it was well done. I have the second one to read on my kindle and the audio available. I attempted to listen to it a few weeks back but it wouldn't download properly but it looks like it's been fixed now so it will be my next audio after the one I'm listening to now.

message 1163: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Yup audio by Toby Leonard Moore a very good fit for the book

message 1164: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I always think it's strange that there is more than one audio version of a book done. Mine was narrated by Nigel Carrington.

message 1165: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments There's a lot of audio companies and it all comes down to copyrights and licencing agreements a lot of legal mumbo jumbo deciding who and how many if any audio versions will be made. Then there's what countries can get them and blah blah blah

I second the Yay Science! Really though, I don't care about why, I just like the smell! Oh, I want to go home and smell the new one I bought yesterday and the old one I have been avoiding - maybe it is the smell...

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments How odd. Sorry! It works perfectly for me, both at home and now at work (which I hadn't opened it on previously). The main page is http://www.compoundchem.com/ and it was the post on the 1/6/14. But it's still the first post on the page at the moment.

Mine was narrated by Toby Leonard Moore as well. I haven't acquired the next book in the series yet. Soon, I hope.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Books Can Be Deceiving for the challenge, which was fun, but now I have a one-day-gap before the toppler starts!

I think I'll start Coraline, it's short and I've wanted to read it for some time. And it will get me back on track for the goodreads reading challenge! The chunkier chunksters tend to put me behind schedule which is always nicely shown on my homepage, and we can't have that! ;-)

message 1171: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) | 1152 comments I'm trying to finish Lady Audley's Secret before starting the Toppler... I'm reading it for a groupread (Gothic Literature). To speed it up, I listen to the audio-version on the computer and read when not near the computer... I hope I'll be able to finish in time, because I hate abandoning a book for a week - I might not finish it than at all...

Now why didn't I hear about this in my org chem class?

message 1173: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Sherlock: A Study in Scarlet for June's 'Clue!' challenge. I wanted to read something that was fun and easy to read and this was exactly what I was looking for. I gave it 3.5 stars

Exactly. this would have made me pay attention.

message 1175: by Mari (new)

Mari I recently started reading The Agony & Ecstasy by Irving Stone(sorry no links due to posting from my phone). I'm really enjoying it. It's a historical fiction story about Michelangelo written in the 60's. After reading The Goldfinch, my mind has been on art, & it was a nice transition.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Just finished The Signature of All Things that I found boring. I gave it 2 stars just because I really like Gilbert's prose.
Before it I read the Hanger Games series. A wonderful YA series really!
I'm still working on The Visionist, and really having problems swallowing it.
When I'm done with it I'll go through The Rosie Project and Y: a novel.

Oh, The Agony and the Ecstasy. I have it marked to read. I made it through his books about Vincent van Gogh. I read both Lust for Life and Dear Theo in 2012.

Therese Raquin has been turned into a film called In Secret. I don't know what kind of adaptation it is but (without having read the book) I enjoyed it.

Ooh, I really wanted to see that film Pam but it wasn't shown in my local cinema so I ended up missing it :( I guess I will just have to watch it once it is released on DVD. I am glad you enjoyed it. The book was very good, definitely worth a read.

Kaya | 21 comments Gavin wrote: "Currently reading The Great Gatsby"

Is it as overrated as majority of people say it is?

message 1185: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments The Great Gatsby is a wonderful book. Unfortunately, schools too often assign it as required reading to students too young to appreciate it, and I think that has a lot to do with why some people think it is "overrated." I've read it three or four times over the last forty years, and it seems to get better every time I read it, but I think that is just because I have seen more of life and can appreciate it more. I have always loved Fitzgerald's prose, though.

Pam Williams | 156 comments I'm reading Wonder. It was recommended by a friend who teaches fifth grade. I'm not very far in yet but it's very good. It's about a boy who was born with a facial deformity and how people respond (and don't respond) to him.

Haha, well, I'll just I'm liking it so far.

message 1191: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Red Rising for the toppler. I gave it 3 stars because the scene setting was good and there was a lot of action but I never really connected with the story or the characters. I just don't think sci-fi/dystopian is my thing really. I seem to dislike more than I like.

I have now started The Woman in Black: Angel of Death which is also a toppler book.

message 1192: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm almost finished withThe No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency and next is Stargirl, both toppler books.

message 1193: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2098 comments Peggy: how did you like The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency? I've read most of the series and quite like them. I also enjoy that they tell about a country and culture that I'm not familiar with.

message 1194: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I really like it! it's a sweet book :) I knew basically nothing about Botswana and it makes an interesting and special setting. I also like that it's several cases she has to solve instead of one murder. I'm definitely going to read more in the series.

Oh, I am glad you liked it, Peggy! I still have #13 and #14 to read. It has been a long time since I read the last one before that. I love how you are transported to such a different time and feeling when reading the books.
