I received a book I had request via an interlibrary loan. I started it but the first book wins. This does not seem to have been translated into English yet. I think I am in for a treat with this one. It's L’homme qui savait la langue des serpents(The Man Who Spoke Snakish), by an Estonian novelist.
Audiobook: I am listening to The Drawing of the Three, the 2nd book of the Dark tower series.

It wasn't horrible. It was just "meh". You may like it better than me.
I've only returned books that I've abandoned in the first hour because of truly nasty narration. I'm reluctant to return books because I might feel differently about them at another date. One notable example was Hounded. The first time I attempted it, I gave up within an hour thinking it was totally stupid. Then, after reading peoples' comments here, I decided to give it another go and loved it the second time around.

I enjoyed this trilogy, though Feed did get off to a slow start. The last book, Blackout, was the best of the three. I think the author got much better at writing as she went along.

However - I discovered Patrick O'Brian and his Aubrey/Maturin series over the weekend. I listened to #5 Desolation Island all day Saturday. I am currently listening to Master and Commander - which is #1. Yes, I saw the movie with Russel Crow, but the book, especially in audio is SO MUCH MORE!!!!

This is good to know. I'll feel a little safer carrying on with it.

I'll keep this in mind. I just picked up Feed the other day.

I've started The Cold Dish. The narrator has embodied the character. This book could fit in with our indigenous peoples theme.

The Bronze Horseman, The Well of Ascension, The People in the Trees, A Suitable Boy and A History of the World in 100 Objects - I'm just picking one of them up and reading 20 pages and switching to the next one. I'm in a weird reading mood.

@Janice - let's hope you're next book is better than the Mankell one!
@Esta - I too seem to have a lot of books on the go at the moment although I managed to finish a couple yesterday which makes it a bit easier. You have a few chunksters going there!

I get into those modes too, Esta, and find I have a lot of books at various stages of "readness", if you know what I mean. Right now I have the Mankell book, The Paris Architect, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Sands of the Kalahari, and I finished rereading Cinder and Scarlet so I can read Cress. Hopefully I'll be finished something by the weekend.

It is weird reading like that, but it works for me sometimes too, Esta. Isn't it amazing how you can still pick right back up in the story of each one after the shuffling around?

Is being a couple of hard weeks for me, haven't done a lot of reading, I was in the hospital last week, got out on Thursday. Here is what I have been reading:
I finally finished The Bronze Horseman, another of Paullina Simons book that I loved.
⇛ For the month of March for another group I'm reading:
The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman, Duchess By Night by Eloisa James, and finished today Night Road by Kristin Hannah.
⇛ For a RaBF of another group I'm working on Bag of Bones by Stephen King.
⇛ And finally, tomorrow I have to pick up my next book for the Chunkters; The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy.

I was looking at Alice Hoffman's books earlier this evening. Have you started The Ice Queen? I'll be interested in what you have to say about it.

Hospital stays are no good. You would think you would get a lot of reading done, since you've nothing else to do, but with all the poking and prodding and strange surroundings there is nothing to do but be bored!
Stay away from there!☺

I think that there is a Buddy Read for The Book Thief, that was started about a week and a half ago. Why not join in on that?
I really enjoyed reading that book.

I remember when my brother started reading this series. Once he started, he couldn't stop! Over 20 books - you might be in for the long haul, Cherie!

I am almost done with Post Captain. I am listening at lunch time. I have the next ready to go. :)
I amlost like the 2nd one better than the 1st! It is not just the wonderful characters, but I just love the sea lore and all the talk about the boats and the naval service.

I found the second one better as well. And from a few conversations I've had it seems to be a common opinion.

I am still reading The Golem and the Jinni which I am loving and I am due to start another buddy read next week for American Gods.

I am reading Jilly Cooper's Riders. It's a chunkster and connects and I've never read it. It's off the shelves that were his when we married. (my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Not my usual fare, shall we say.

OMG Helen, I had to look!☻
The community reviews are sooo funny.
Not my usual fare either, but it went on my TBR.
Over 900 pages, Whew!☺

He had a Jilly Cooper on his shelf? Interesting...
Are you enjoying your chick lit in the Cotswolds with riding crops and stirrups and I am totally stopping.
He has a wide range of reading material on "his" shelves. In fact he reads far more books that might be thought primarily female than I do. I'm 75 pages in and we've had our first tumble in the hay. I assume that more will follow...

I didn't really explain myself. I am not a fan of dividing books by gender at all. While slightly amused and shocked he had a Jilly Cooper book on his shelf, it actually endears him to me a heap more!

Wait until you see the cover!

I'm guessing with a horse theme this is literal?

You are correct, there was hay involved as well as sex. It sounded most uncomfortable to me, the floor of the stables (even when covered in hay) doesn't sound in the least bit attractive. *rolls eyes*

Yup. If I'm supposed to sing/hum/whistle that every time they get down & dirty I suspect this is going to turn into a musical. >;-)

How... spikey.
And I'd be interested in sourcing the soundtrack if you had to sing that every time, Helen.

Oh my word! And Good Heavens! I think that's how grandma would respond here

Goodness gracious me!
Like that?

Maybe he stopped at the cover and that was what elicited the "bow chick a bow wow". LOL!

Had a now fired milk truck driver who wasn't pucking up anyone's milk very regularly. Come to find out a farm had 2 Mexican women working and they were having some 3 way fun in the hay now for almost a year before people figured it out.

That gives 'away in the manger' a whole new spin. :)

Was the goat jealous?
