The Fault in Our Stars

Am I the only one who hates this book with burning passion?

My opinion Its over hyped, and I liked it, I thought it was well written, but I think everyone made a big deal about and might have gone overboard in that. If you hated it, I understand Im not going to judge you or argue with you because you don't like a book that I do

Considering how much I hate chemistry I love these memes.

Is it good? I have never, I repeat never, felt so many emotions all at once. Drums, Girls and Dangerous pie is one of the books that is sadly looked over. You should definitely read it! (and thank me later, aha)

Firstly, put aside the fact that the book is unrealistic in its portrayal of the super wordly cancer-teens in this book.
Then we can think about the actual writing:
It was good, but not memorable.
I think the massive (undeserving) hype for this book comes from the fact that this book is about teenagers with cancer, coming out with some very quotable thoughts. THUS, teenagers (in good health or otherwise) are going to read this book, and love it because it speaks to them, and think it is the most amazing thing.
But it's not. This phenomenon might as well be called the 'Twilight Complex' or the 'Harry Potter Effect'; mediocre books are lifted to a heady height of glory due to a huge influx of the 'youth of today' latching on, and using the internet to shift the baseline.
Just so this doesn't come across as a middle-aged rant about the 'kids these days', I'd like to inform you that I am 21.
And (I haven't checked) I assume that Van Houten and John Green have a lot in common? Is this book a method of dealing with something in his life?
^This. Except I'm a teenager and hated it.

But I found it did teach me a few things, like any book will, even if it's simply "what not to do".

FOR GOD'S SAKE.
NO.
(Sorry. I'm just getting very fed up with this! Is this the same account posting again and again??)"
Actually, my name keeps popping up here. No, i'm not reposting the same comment. But alot more people think it was a great book. Ha. You people complain like it wasn't.

Obviously not, if you bothered to look back at the comments."
I did. your complains about the book were stupid and irrevalant.

I can see where you're coming from when you say that the book romanticized cancer, but I would definitely have to disagree with you. Sure, the movie has a pretty silly tag line, but at the same time- books and movies aren't always the same. The ideas from a book don't always translate into the movie and I'm sure you've seen enough terrible book to movie adaptations to understand this.
I mean, when Augustus' cancer was really bad, we have scenes where he's pissing the bed and where Hazel has to drive to his car to get him and he's covered in puke and his tube is out and honestly there is no romance in these scenes. And I think these are really honest scenes as well. Just my thoughts

Can you explain why you thought this book was great?

Your reasons for the book being amazing are stupid and dumb, and maybe you don't know how to count above the number one, because if you were able to, you would know there is definitely more than one person who doesn't like this book.
So..........
YOU FAILED

Maybe you just can't handle the fact that TFios is shit....
So.........
YOU FAILED

Except that it really didn't. No one has chemo or radiotherapy, no one talks of immune problems as a result of their cancer - Hazel shared her nose tube with a young girl who, I guarantee, would be covered in germs and make Hazel so fricking sick - and everyone keeps their hair. He dramatised the whole thing, without making much realistic. So how can you see the "dirty" side of cancer when it's not even there?

I read A thousand splendid suns when I was 15 and I absolutely loved it. I would recommend it without any hesitation.

Agreed agreed agreed.....

Amen to that.
Amen to that.
Why on earth is this book so popular?

i didn't necessarily hate it but it was so damn depressing

She's obviously NOT the only one and if you'd read all the comments, you'd realise she (and countless others) all said WHY they didn't like it"
Exactly...some people are so dumb....

By reading the thread in it's entirety and countless one and two star reviews, you may get a good notion of the problems in this book. I'm interested in why you believe it's good. Peer pressure notwithstanding.

I wish life could be like that, where people are ready with sophisticated sentences for conversation. It is not.

The whole problem with the book is that it's trying so hard to feed us philosophical ideas.
I mean, take this analogy: The more a parent tries to push baby food in their child's mouth, the more he or she will resist.
The book was trying too hard, and it was obvious, which led me to believe it pretentious.

I don't care if you love Tfios or hate it, but I fucking hate it, so suck it up and deal with it.....and maybe you should consider why people think Tfios is shit because, trust me, IT IS SHIT!
