*** READ 2014 IN 2014 CHALLENGE***

WHO: Everyone on both the Facebook RKB page and the GoodReads RKB page.

WHAT IT IS: It's a way for all of us to keep track of what we're reading in one place. The goal is to read 2014 books in 2014. I'm SURE we'll make it, but it's fun to see what everyone else is reading, which book is read the most, how many pages we've collectively read...and lots of other fun facts.

WHEN: Starting January 1, 2014

WHERE: We'll keep track on the Good Reads page that I've set up specifically for the challenge.

WHY: Because it's fun!! And I'd LOVE to see us hit 2 million pages next year...and maybe double the 2014 books!!

HOW: 1) Get the email address and password by sending me a PM. If you participated in the last challenge, I just changed the 3 to a 4 in both the email address and password. Because of the trouble we had last time, I'm being extra careful about who I send the information to!

2) Sign into the GoodReads account that I've created. Because GoodReads can be a little difficult about changing from one account to another, it's better to use 2 different browsers, one for your personal account and one for the Challenge account.

3) Create a shelf using your name. If you have a common name like Chris, Susan, Kathy or Jennifer, add either your last name or an initial or two. To add a shelf, look down the left side of the screen. In small green letters, you'll see the words “add shelf”. Click on that to add your shelf. If you're using your phone, you might not be able to see if. If that happens, let me know and I'll add your shelf for you.

4) Whenever you finish a book, add it to your shelf. A really easy way to do it is to send your personal account a “friend request” from the RKB account. Then add the book to one or the other, close the browser, then go to the other page.

5) If you come across a book that is already marked as READ, click on the title of the book. Beneath the book description, you'll see a place where it says “My Review”. On the right of that section, you'll see “edit my review” in green letters. Click on that. At the bottom of that page, just above the “save” button, you'll see “more options”. Click on that. You'll see “number of times I've read this book”. Add 1 to the number already there. Then click “hide more options” and “save”.

6) Please do not mark a book as "to be read" or "currently reading". Only add books that you've finished.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Kathryn (an80slady6886) | 43 comments I noticed 2 books were added before the year changed , cab we mark books we finished reading after the 2013 challenge ended. but before the new year began

message 3: by Kris (new)

Kris (krl781) I think that Teri had mentioned (on FB) to save anything that was finished prior to year end, but after she closed the 2013 challenge and add it to the 2014 list.

Yes, you can add the books you read the last couple of days of the the 2013 Challenge since I ended it early. I didn't feel like spending my New Year's Eve compiling Stats! :)

message 6: by Andrea (Drea) (new)

Andrea (Drea) (msdre711) Teri,

Is it still ok to post on this thread? I have a hard time switching back and forth because I use my phone most of the time and it is linked with my facebook account. Hope that is still ok?!

If so, my first book of 2014 is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and give it 2 stars *holding my head in shame*. I just didn't like it until the middle part and the end. I almost stopped reading it.

Sure it's ok Andrea.

Since you mostly use your phone, have you tried using the GR app for one thing and the website for the other? For example, if you usually use the app for your page, you can use your web browser for the RKB page.

I'll add your book now and let me know if you need me to add more.

message 8: by Andrea (Drea) (new)

Andrea (Drea) (msdre711) Thank you Teri! Whenever I go into the browser on my phone, it freezes for a second, then automatically logs me in *frustrating*

Can you send me the login info in a private message? I will try and see if I can do it and login on my browser as a diff person. If not, I might be adding them here.

message 9: by Andrea (Drea) (new)

Andrea (Drea) (msdre711) Here is another one :-)
Back to you by Priscilla Glen 5 stars!!

Rich Meyer (Rich_Meyer) | 53 comments Do we add them to same place we did last year? IhopeIhopeIhope. 'Cause I just did.

message 11: by Heather (new)

Heather | 72 comments Rich, the log in email and password are the same as last year, but change the 3 to a 4 in both email and password.

message 12: by Rich (new)

Rich Meyer (Rich_Meyer) | 53 comments Okey-dokey. Might as well wait till the end of the week and put in the whole two weeks worth o' books

message 13: by Teri Pre (new)

Teri Pre | 455 comments Mod
Thanks Heather and Rich! I find that the easiest way to add my books is to friend the RKB GR page, go into my personal page, add the books I've read, close that browser, then open the RKB GR page and they're right there on the main page. Then I just click and add them to the RKB shelf.

No Fun Fact today, but I want to thank whoever it was that added in all of the "date read" dates!! I really appreciate it!!

Kathryn, I take the number of books from the "books" page and the page number from the stats page. It takes the stats page as much as 24 hours to update. Also, if books don't have a "date read" entered, they don't show up on the stats page at all.
