Buddy Read Requests

Can you create a group list? That way each person could vote for three series that they wouldn't read, because it seems we are fairly scattered, then what's left with the least no's could go on a poll to choose from.

I plan to send a general email to group members tonight and a mini-poll for a buddy read. The idea seems to be popular, so I will narrow down to the ones that were mentioned several times (3-4), and we can vote for the series we want.

Hmmm...that is on my to-read list, and I wasn't going to read Dahlgren. I think I'd be up for it though I will be out of town for two weeks towards the beginning of October, so might not be too into the discussions until my return.

Ok...and its available currently at the library. Sold!

This group is such an amazing collection of interested readers with (imho) great taste in books! :-) So glad to be a part of it!

Ami and I are planning a buddy read for John Steinbeck's East of Eden starting in Feb. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome. This is my all time favorite novel so I've read it several times. This will be a new one for Ami. We're looking forward to some good reading.

I would love to reread that book someday, but my plate is definitely full at the moment. I don't remember much at all from the book - I read it ~25 years ago - but just that I loved it at the time. Have fun, gals!

Well, I'm on week two of Ulysses with another group, and I'll be fitting in Venetia during the month of February with yet another group. So there are three major reads right there, plus a "fluff piece". :)

As far as after IJ, I'm going to see what the next poll brings in for the Underrated Chunkster and I'll have to decide if I'm interested in reading the winner or not, and by then I'll have a better idea if I can even handle another book anyway.

It's for a Dickens group. I'm sorely lacking in my knowledge of Dickens so I've embarked on trying to read all of his works.

East of Eden is my favorite book and DC is easily in my top 5. And it's my favorite Dickens. I really hope you guys enjoy it.

Are you reading this with the group that read "The Odyssey" and then proceeded with "Ulysses?" I've always wanted to read them that way, not necessary, but I would want to. :)

No, it must be a different group since they have not read The Odyssey in the past year, at least. This one is the Classics and Western Canon group.

I have not read The Odyssey, but the moderator who is leading discussion has been great with giving a quick summary of each Odyssey episode that is supposed to be vaguely mirrored in Ulysses.

I know a lot of people are going to be busy with the big Readathon event in the next few months...but as I won't be able to fully participate, I was thinking about maybe leading up a buddy read of Neal Stephenson's Anathem. Maybe starting around early March? Or even a bit earlier if there's enough interest.

John, if you start a separate thread in the buddy reads folder, you might get more people. You can start threads even if you are a mod. It will be more visible. Or you can nominate it as a readathon read. I know many people like Stephenson.

OK! I didn't nominate it in the readathon since I'm not planning on participating in the whole thing...but if the selection is being decided by vote I guess it can't hurt to mention it :)

Becky, I just got into listening to audio books AND coincidentally am about halfway reading Joe Hill's Locke & Key, Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft series, which is my intro to Joe Hill. I would love to give NOS4A2 a shot with you.

I'm going to hold off on Bone Clocks, though, because I want to read that one and my tree-book time is already full in October.

I have an abundance of time at the moment for audiobooks. Its jarvest and I am married to a farmer so its long dog walks with my audiobooks, cleaning while listening, cooking while listening. I get a bit ahead of myself during fall :)

I'm probably misremembering but I thought books had to be of the "classics" variety. I actually have a copy of Jerusalem which I have been saving for a lengthy illness. ;)

Oh nope! Anything goes! We used to have two reads which split the categories but as we just have one read at a time now (for the time being) anything goes if it fits the category. Jerusalem would definitely fit the SuperChunk category!
