Alex smiled gently at Lia. He felt sorry for the girl.

"Don't worry, Lia," he said. "She's upset. She's angry. God knows how many times she's snapped at me when she gets that way. But we're still friends. Don't worry."

Lia slowly nodded, "OKay."

Alex still worried about Alec. He ran after him and Rianna, stopping them.

"Hey!" He said, brightly. "Man, I think we need to do that whole thing again. Hi. I'm Alex. I'm sorry I blew. It's just, no one hurts my friends. And I know you hate Wendy, but...please, just give her a chance. You don't have to get along, just...?"

Alex smiled, turning back to Lia, while Ales thought.

"You wanna go to the dorm or something? I'll come find you when Wendy comes around. You can take Britney with you."

Lia nodded, "Sure." She walked over to Britney, "Coming?"

Britney followed, nodding.

"Usually I don't watch these kinds of things." Lia whispers to Britney as the two start to wander away.

Alex very nearly laughed. Paused. Cleared his throat.

"Anyway, Welcome to the Glade. It sucks...but we're all together here. We've got to be, to survive. Rianna will show you round. I'll see you later."

With a friendly smile, Alex took off after Wendy.

"What did you say your name was?" Rianna asked, when Alex had left.

"Mmm," Rianna said, distractedly running a hand through her long hair. "I'm a um, TrackHoe. I work with plants. And the animals. They're cute. We'll set you up with a job later. You know, when you settle in and all. So..." She looked up at Alex through heavy lashes, openly curious. "How come you remembered Wendy?"

Alec was rather warned by the question. "Honestly, if i were to know, i'd say. But at the moment i have no clue."

Rianna nodded sympathetically. "I get that," she said. "It feels the same way with my own name...for me. Like an empty space, a part missing. Like that word on the tip of your tongue, but you just can't remember it." She had a flair for drama and liked to overdramatise situations slightly.

"Mm hmm." Rianna smiled and looked off not the sunset. "The maze is closing," she noted. Then she glanced at Alec. "The maze is..." She explained about the puzzle, the Grievers and, finally, the runners and MapMakers.

Rianna laughed and smiled at Alec. She shook her head, sighing. "Yup. You got that one right. If you want the technical map and maze details, you should speak to Lena and Eowyn. The keepers of the runners and MapMakers. They'll explain. Anyway." Rianna looked at Alec concernedly. "I'm meant to take you to Lizzie in the Hospital. Just to sort you out a little."

"No, it's just a black eye. It's fine." Alec says. "It's only a little thing."

"Standard protocol," said Rianna. "Well, if you get into a fight. See, life's a little...different round here. We don't want anything to get infected...we can't treat it well and there's the...Grievers. Follow me. Just in case. Lizzie's a sweet kid, too."

Rianna waited for the surprise that followed everyone finding out that Lizzie and the MedJacks were just kids.

Brin panicked as the ground moved beneath her feet. She gasped, straining for breath in the hot metal box. No air! No air!

A compartment opened over her head, someone jumped into the box next to her. A girl. "Welcome to the glade. Its day one Greenie, rise and shine. What should we call you?"

"Brin," She replied, "My name is Brin."

Alex extended a hand to help pull her out of the box. His blue eyes were cool and collected, but his lips twitched up in a smile as he

"Welcome to the Glade, Brin," he said, stepping back to give her some space, shielding his face from the sun. He smiled, feeling a little bad for her, like he did for all newbies. "Don't remember anything, do you?" He asked, gently. "Don't worry. That's normal. None of us do."

Alex extended a hand once more, this time for her to shake. "My name's Alex. That's it. All I remember. You'll get used to it."

[Bridgette]

She shook his hand and thanked him for helping her out of the box. Brin was confused, "Why can't we remember anything? What did we do? What is this place?"

[H :)]

"The Glade," he said, his tone serious and dark now. "There's about a hundred of us here. No one knows why. No one knows how we got here, either. Well, we know nothing beyond that piece of junk." He kicked the elevator lightly with his foot.

[Bridgette]

Brin frowned, "Are we going to survive? Does someone want us dead?"

[H :)]

"No one knows," Alex repeated, feeling like a radio stuck on replay. He sighed. "But yeah. It's pretty easy to die here. See those walls?" He asked, turning to point at the towering walls of the maze behind him. "Those close every night, when the sun's going down. Get stuck out there after they close...bam, you're a goner. There's...creatures inside there. We call 'em Grievers. You don't ever want to meet one of them...yeah, um, Brin?"

[Bridgette]

Brin shook her head, scared now, "I wonder what it looks like out there." she wondered out loud.

[H :)]

Alex nodded. "Wonder all you like. But trust me, you don't want to find out. Really, you don't." He looked away, hoping he hadn't scared her too much. "Are you ok?" He asked, after a moment, feeling slightly awkward. "I mean anything you need? Or shall I have Lena show you around?" He smiled, kindly. "You know, it doesn't have to be all that bad here. You get used to it. Don't worry."

Brin smiled back, "I would love for you to show me around. And I think I'm already starting to like it here."
