I have seen the Book of Merlyn as a stand alone book. It was the only book I could find when I was looking for TOAFK.

If not, do we want to get it and add it on as part of this read??

Good question! I guess if you add each book individually to your bookshelf, then GoodReads would count them individually? I have just have the one book added as a whole, so I'm assuming it would only count as one. I would be curious what other members are doing in this regard as I am doing the challenge this year.

I'll be counting it as 1 book, since that's the edition I am reading.

Makes sense - I'll do the same.

"White was inspired to write this book upon determining that the key theme of Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur is to find an "antidote for war". Rather than containing a distinct plot, this book reads more like a discourse on war and human nature.
Originally submitted for publication in 1941, due to wartime paper shortages White was unable to convince his publisher to include The Book of Merlyn as part of the collected edition of The Once and Future King (which was first published in its entirety in 1958).
He nevertheless managed to salvage parts of this rejected text. While revising The Sword in the Stone for the collected edition, he adapted scenes from The Book of Merlyn. The unfortunate consequence is that parts of The Book of Merlyn appear to be rehashing things White has already covered earlier in the collected version of The Once and Future King."
So there are different versions of the books.
The Book of Merlyn was published posthumously. It bears the subtitle "The Unpublished Conclusion to The Once and Future King". I recently discovered it in my uni library and would really like to read this one, too.

Funny because I thought we owned it on the kindle, but couldn't find it so I bought it. Today I stumbled across it in my Audible library! I guess I wasn't crazy after all.

That looks great - Thanks Ami and Kristi for sharing!
Now back to reading business. Below is the schedule for The Once and Future King. It is only 692 pp. long, so the schedule has only one break week after Book I and Book II. Roughly, we will be reading 49-55 pages per week, so I think it is doable, manageable, and readable.
January 13-January 19 Book I, Chapters 1-5
January 20-January 26 Book I, Chapters 6-11
January 27-February 02 Book I, Chapters 12-18
February 03-February 09 Book I, Chapters 19-24
February 10-February 16 Book II, Chapters 1-7
February 17-February 23 Book II, Chapters 8-14
February 24-March 02 BREAK!
March 03-March 09 Book III, Chapters 1-7
March 10-March 16 Book III, Chapters 8-12
March 1-March 23 Book III, Chapters 13-19
March 24-March 30 Book III, Chapters 20-27
March 31-April 06 Book III, Chapters 28-36
April 07-April 13 Book III, Chapters 37-45
April 14-April 20 Book IV, Chapters 1-7
April 21-April 27 Book IV, Chapters 8-14
The leader is Kristi, and I will also attempt to read the book with the group. I am sure we will all enjoy the world of myths, legends, chivalry, romance, magic, and it will be a thought-provoking escape that will last for months:-)
