This topic has been swirling around my head for a while now, a crazy quilt of ideas that have come from an various editorials on many subjects that has come together as a single idea, or at least I hope it is. Lately there has been a lot of drum beating, fist shaking and stomping of feet regarding gay marriage and comments from "Duck Dynasty" and it's patriarch's comments regarding homosexuals and Jim Crow.
I want to start by stating very clearly that I am NOT supporting his comments nor am I condemning anyone. But, we live in a world that basically has force fed us the idea of all inclusive language, politically correct terms (both of which are SO out of hand it is beyond laughable), so much to the fact that if you do not (at least) publicly embrace these ideals, you are a WRONG, unenlightened neanderthal who needs to be placed in a cage and kept away from the population at large.
Freedom of speech has been so corrupted in our eyes, that we forget that freedom of speech is just that. I have a right to say and think what I wish and so do you. This also means that people with opposing viewpoints are allowed to have and express them. They are. Period. You don't have to agree with someone, and they don't have agree with you.
All inclusive language has crept into churches over the last few years, meaning Christ has become "child of God" instead of "Son of God". Umm, Jesus is male so son is the correct word here, right? WRONG! By saying so, you are keeping women from being included! (I don't get that one and I really don't want to, thank you.) Politically correct states that I am not short, I am vertically challenged. Umm no, I'm short, I am 5'2 1/2" tall. I am short. I am not horizontally challenged, I am fat.
Yet, freedom of speech, all inclusive or politically correct, is not free from consequences. Advertisers make that very clear to networks all the time over shows, and newtworks have made that clear to talent over the years when someone says or does something they don't like. Consumers have called for boycotts of businesses due to political stances that don't jibe with their own.
In all of this, is a basic idea. Agree with me or you will pay. Dearly. It is only o.k. to be in support of gay marriage, look down on obese people (really, if they would only control themselves) and support the rights of minorities, but have a differing opinion, like fat is beautiful, and you are facing a lynch mob of public opinion.
Acceptance does not mean everyone has or will agree with you.
In a way, all this all-inclusive language reminds me of a cross between lawyer doubletalk and a kid on the playground backpedaling over what he just said to avoid getting punched. It's a way to avoid the consequences of saying what one believes, by not really saying anything in the first place.

And that may be hard to accept.
