When did you read this? Was it old or new then? Do you remember the time period it was set in? Current times--2000 to present, 1980 to 2k, 1950-1980, WWI, WWII, 1920's, 1930's, 1800's etc.
Was it a romance, suspense, romantic suspense, mystery? Do you remember why the boyfriend pretended to die? And who broke into her home--the boyfriend or whoever the boyfriend was hiding from?
Ann, I most likely read it around this past year or late last year. It should be a newer book. And it was more around an either YA or New Adult romance.
He pretended to die because of him being a journalist he was digging up some stuff that could possibly kill him so he faked his death to protect the girl. And I'm almost sure it was the people he was hiding from.
This book kind of seemed like it would be the start of a series.

I am still trying to find this book. I read it to. I'm thinking it ended with a cliffhanger. The dead boyfriend showed back up and the new boyfriend knew about the faked death the whole time. I mostly remember the Cartier Love bracelet.
I remember the beginning of this book is a girl and her boyfriend (possibly finace) they are getting ready for his work party where he is being recognized, he's a journalist of some kind. He gives her a bracelet and is acting weird before the party, he goes into the bathroom where we later learned that he was crying. On the way to the party they are at a red light and she is playing with the radio and they end up being carjacked, when he gets out of the car he tells her to stay in it. That's when she hears a gunshot. For months she's unable to leave the house they shared. Until finally she begins to live again.. She gives his beloved car to his nephew and is ready to move out of the house they shared together.. She meets someone else who wants her to move in with him. After spending time with this guy she goes back home to find that the house was broken into everything is broken. I also remember that she was very close to her dead boyfriend's mother and even introduces her new boyfriend to her... I also remember knowing that it was a little obvious that the dead boyfriend had faked his death through the carjacking in order to keep the girl safe....
