Marcus pored over the old books researching old inheritance laws that the Queen had asked him to look into. Marcus was after his own interests as well.
Margo walked into the library with a large stack of books. Her curly long hair was pulled back, which she finally managed to do after several minutes. She turned the corner and yelped as she ran into someone. Her books went flying and she mentally cursed herself.
Marcus was irritated to be disturbed. He was doing important work for the Queen and this servant dared to disturb him. "What do you think you are doing?" he demanded not making a move to help her.
Margo scrambled to stack the books again. Her black dress flowed down and she blushed terribly. Gosh! When she said she wanted to be noticed.. This was not how she wanted to be. "I'm sorry sir..." She whispered.
Marcus took in her disarray with disdain. "Were you not informed to keep out of the library?" he asked exasperated. Couldn't count on servants to do anything right. "I am not to be disturbed girl"
Margo bit her tongue. She couldn't talk back. "I.." not a girl! she let out a breath and stood. "The queen wanted me to stack her books..." Was all she could trust herself to say.
Marcus doubted that when the Queen had asked him to research this. "Well set them over there on that table and you may go about your task in silence" he said disinterestedly taking her quickly moving chest and flustered appearance.
Margo walked away from him. Her feet clapped against the ground and finally silence filled the room. She turned around and stuck her tongue out at his back. It wouldn't get her in trouble if he didn't know. She smirked and turned back to her books.
Marcus turned away from her and began to search for his place again. Inconvenient servant. Ah. There it is. He began to pore over the text again. Maybe she would manage to be quiet.
Margo did not.. She began to hum as she stood on her tip toes and slide the books in the book cases.
Marcus shut his eyes tight controlling his urge to lash out. "I believe I instructed you to be quiet" he said coldly without turning around.
Margo held in a giggle. "Sir, how could you possible know it's me? When you don't even look to see?"
Marcus was confounded by the question. Why the answer was so simple? How could she ask such a question? "Well, who else in the room could I accuse? Do not address me so informally" he said almost piqued by her obtuseness.
Margo. Blushed and looked down. She turned again. "I..." She shook her head.
Marcus might have felt a little guilty if he believed he had any niceness left in him. "You always address the court by lady, lord, sir, etc" he said suppressing a sigh
Margo really wanted to be sarcastic. She let out a sigh. "Yes sir..." She mutteres
Marcus nodded and promptly forgot her. He went back to his analysis. He was almost to the important part.
Margo had finished and tip toed over. She looked over his should and quietly read.
Hmmm
Hmmm
Marcus felt her intense stare of his shoulder and spun on her. "What do you think you are doing?" he asked, loud and demanding. "Does this look like it is for you to see?" This girl knew no sense of place. This was highly sensitive business and she was trying to be nosy.
Margo's face looked calm as ever. She tilted her head and smiled lightly. She cleared her throat. She could mimic him! It would be a bit funny. Maybe cheer him up a bit
Marcus felt his temper growing while she remained quietly smiling at him. Was she impaired? "I know you are not deaf girl. Answer me" he said quietly though the anger was easy to detect.
Margo smiled and then opened her mouth. "Answer me!" She said but it wasn't her voice. It sounded like his. She held in a giggle and turned and picked up the duster.
Marcus narrowed his eyes his face like thunder. "Do not mock miss. You do not realize the consequences such childish actions will bring" he said giving her fair warning
Margo looked at him and smiled. "Thank you.. Sir! for such amazing advice. I shall not do it again!"
Marcus scowled in repsonse. She was really irritating. "Are you finished with your task now? I have important matters to attend to that require no interruption" he said
Margo fought hard not to roll her eyes. "Nope. Sorry sir," she turned and dusted
Marcus held in a sigh. "Fine. Stay quiet and do not disturb me. Absolutely no reading" he said firmly
"What are you doing anyway lord?" She asked curiously
Marcus eyes widened. "If you had been listening, you would know that it does not concern you. You have not the authority to know such information" he said fighting to keep his calm.
Margo sighed and looked down. Her curls fell and bounced over her shoulders. "Sorry sir," she whispered and turned her back to him.
Marcus felt a twinge but suppressed it. Now maybe he could get this task over with and move onto the next. The Queen should be back in the next couple days and he needed to be ready.
Margo bit her tongue so she wouldn't hum. The only thing that was heard was her soft breaths and his.
Marcus finished up that page and started on the final page of text.
Margo turned a corner and touched a book. If only she could actually read! She felt stupid!
Marcus finished the page and smiled satisfied. He had gained what he needed and shut the book carefully. The Queen would be pleased. He looked around and noticed the maid staring at the books. Why did she look like that and why was she not doing her work?
Margo let out a sigh. Her eyes darted to the side and she blushed, eyes wide, as she saw him staring at her. She straightened her back and curtsied before running away. Oh goodness!!
Marcus was confused. What had that been about? He couldn't figure it out. He dismissed it and put the book away. He exited the room.
