HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I did a lot of research when I did my year challenge. I found that looking for authors I thought I should read and then finding a list of books published by them was a great way to fill in many years and altered what my reading list was many times.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments 10 books left for age challenge, but I doubt I will make it by the end of the year. I will try, but most of what I want to read is not available in audiobook and it's really hard to read anything but a fairly short book. I have 3 more on the docket (2 Clare Darcy and a JD Robb in audiobook) that will fill in. Ed McBain is still good for 3 fill-ins, but I have to listen to 7 books to do so - cheaper now that I have Kindle Unlimited. Fortunately, these aren't very long.

Due to my health issues and need to both focus on finishing series AND reading some more of those doorstops, I think I may cut way back on challenges for next year. Habit though. Does get me reading more.

Speaking of Audios, have you tried a Scribd trial? They have about 30K audios now.

Re: your health - if you think you should dial it down some, you might be right. But I can understand the lure of reading.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments It's not a matter of getting the audios. Some of these older books, if they have audios at all, are abridged and I don't typically listen to abridged versions. I can get all the Ed McBain through Kindle Unlimited, but some of the others are not in that program.

Many of the Anne McCaffrey ones, for instance, are abridged unless you can manage to find either a library version or one from the Library of the Blind's collection online somewhere. The Pern ones have all been redone, of course, but I just finished the first of the Brain Ship series and it isn't available in unabridged audio. Sniff.

And I feel you about abridged books.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments 8 books left in my age challenge. I'll start another tomorrow, but given that it's a normal errand day, it will take a couple of days I'm sure. Short book though - maybe I can get it done in 2 days. Hah. Then I have to take a break for a Heinlein scifi (the one that Blade Runner comes from).

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Finished another Clare Darcy book. Turns out I forgot to enter another in my Age challenge, so I now have only 6 to complete. My 1960 fill will be an Ed McBain and I'm on the book just before it. My 2001 fill is a JD Robb. I'll have to look at the list to figure out what will work for 62-64 and 94. I just have to look at the lists here on Goodreads to find something I already have that is short enough to finish in Dec! I had to make myself set aside a new Morgue Drawer book just so I can try to finish the challenges!

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments You can do it!

I need to read a 2014 book to get up-to-date and I need to make shelf on GoodReads for my age challenge. :)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Still have 4 left on my Age challenge. I think I can squeeze one more in. Two might be pushing it unless they are very short.

As long as you enjoy what you're reading just do what you can. :)

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Ok, so 3 books shy of finishing the Age Challenge. Not too bad. Still to do:
1963 - Dune (book 1)
1991 - Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth, #1)
2001 - Betrayal in Death - JD Robb

These were all on my list to do so they will get done. :) Dune is actually a reread and Betrayal in Death was the next one in my read-a-long with another group (I got behind).

January's Goal is to catch up on my Read-a-longs.

Stephanie (quiltsrme) | 459 comments Completed the audio challenge. I finished out at 116 books. My Goodreads Challenge counter shows more but that's because I 'released' the short story/novellas from their previous hold as I didn't want to count them in advance. My original goal had been 110, then I raised it in early May to 120, not knowing I was going to have surgery and the fire refugees for so long. So, 116 is a good number.
