I'm glad you like it, Stephen. The Ocean has some cool stuff out there, but Mono is new to me. Here's something else by them:

Ekel wrote: "Peste Noire - Mors Orbis Terrarum"Saw these guys back in '07 or '08 I think it was with either Absu or maybe Black Majesty. Although I don't have much BM experience I do remember walking out thinking how good they were live. I do like Absu a lot.
Absu- Tara (2001)Black Metal out of Texas.
These dudes are a bit more Thrashy than most Black Metal bands. Probably why I dig them so much.
Tara is my personal favorite but 5 of their 7 full lengths are very good with only their first two on the weaker side in my humble opinion.

@ Ed: I think especially the celtic themed albums are unique in extreme metal. You simply cannot get that kind of music AND such lyrical concepts anywhere else. Albeit, I have to admit I haven't listened to Absu for quite a time now...

Which bands are you going to listen to?
Ekel wrote: "Which bands are you going to listen to?"I havev Aura Noir- Hades Rise and then Inquisition- Into the Infernal Regions Of the Ancient Cult in my queue after Absu. Two bands that have some Thrash elements similar to Absu. I'll take some more Symphonic recommendations if you don't mind.
Bal-Sagoth from Yorkshire might be something, but be warned, the music is a symphonic overkill.
If you want more stuff like Nokturnal Mortum, I recommend Munruthel, the project of the former NM drummer:
https://munruthel.bandcamp.com/
The first two albums are Ambient, but Epoch of Aquarius and CREEDamage are pure, epic Pagan/Symphonic Black Metal.

That's one of your favorite albums you'd think you'd know how to spell the bands name...No?
llibrro wrote: "What are post-rock and post-metal etc? Does that mean rock and metal are dead?"Ekel wrote: "A good example for post rock is Sigur Ros"
Sigur Ros is cool. My fave post-rock releases are:
Metavari - Ambling EP
Dawn Chorus Ignites - Glimmer EP
The Timeout Drawer - A Difficult Future
Absent Without Leave - Postcards From Nowhere
Gilmore Trail - The Floating World
Mogwai - Young Team
Way Station - The Ships

Fsho! I must've listened to that album like a million times! :D

Winter is coming. Eh...err, oh wait, isn't it here..?
llibrro wrote: "That would be very nice of you Michael. I will look forward to seeing what you come up with. Cheers. "
I'm looking forward to making the list and then seeing what you might like from it. But, it may take me a few days to think about it! I don't want to disappoint you! :]

BTW I just wanted to tell y'all this is my favorite group I've joined on GR. And why I make so many damn comments!!!!!
Matthew wrote: "Head Over Heels by Cocteau Twins (1983) is an amazing album in my humble opinion :) I'm so glad it was recommended to me on here and it's one of my favorite albums to listen to at the moment! Sometimes I'm glad I overlooked certain bands in the past because it means I get to discover their music now like it's new. "Wow, SWEET! I feel the same way whenever I hear something I missed first time 'round.
I don't think you'll be too disappointed with anything Cocteau Twins. *Treasure* is right after *Head Over Heels* and would think you would like or love that as well. Also, *Aikea-Guinea* is a great EP, heavy for them and perfect for when you are in the mood for *Head Over Heels* and/or *Treasure* imo ;)
Janie wrote: "Mono & The Ocean - Transcendental - can't get enough of this EP:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAW6j..."
I always like Mono. This one sounds like it must be great. I'm adding it to my discogs Wantlist!
Ekel wrote: "Cocteau Twins - Garlands"I remember when I first heard that one and EVERYBODY I knew thought it sounded like Siouxsie & the Banshees. I thought so too....but a few years later I could BARELY hear the comparison anymore.
