I really like this, Matthew!
Cocteau Twins - Milk & Kisses

Traditional Doom Metal out of Texas.
These guys are the American equivalent of Candlemass and some people such as myself believe them to be slightly better than Candlemass
Hauntingly beautiful Doom Metal.

Controversial statement. I like both bands, but in terms of sheer epicness, there is no greater band on this planet than Candlemass in my opinion.

Nice, Stephen :)"
I agree :]

Solitude's discography from top to bottom is better than Candlemass. Not my opinion this is fact.
All three of Candlemass' 90's albums are not very good. Chapter VI (1992) was probably the best of their 90's records and it was weak to say the least. Dactylis Glomerata (1998) and From the 13th Sun (1999) were not very good at all. Again, not my opinion but fact. All three of these albums are rated less than 3.5/5 stars on any metal website you go to.
Every album Solitude Aeturnus recorded is stellar and rated well over 3.5/5 stars. They are much more consistent.
Now of course Candlemass Epicus Doomicus Metallicus and Nightfall are two of the greatest pure Traditional Doom Metal albums ever recorded I will not argue that.
BUT, Solitude Aeturnus are a bit more consistent overall thus a bit better.
The last statement is my opinion but it is not at all as far fetched or controversial as you claim.
Both bands are the best Traditional Doom bands (other than Black Sabbath) to ever record an album and both are in my top 10 favorite bands of all time and either is worthy of being called the best ever.

Ok, you have a point here. It's indeed true that Solitude Aeturnus never released any weak albums, unlike Candlemass.

I am really stuck up when it comes to Artists/Bands. The artist could have like 50 albums all very good but I may only like one.
But.
Did the Cocteau Twins ever produce a non-stellar album. Personally, I don't think so. I love 'em all! :)

Victorialand & Milk & Kisses are perhaps the best, but since they released not that many albums, you should perhaps listen to the complete discography anyway.

I completely agree. My band was very heavily influenced by Japan/David Sylvian. We've come into our own since then but still like our older songs we hope to release next year. Drop me a private msg w/your email and I'll send you a couple, if you are at all interested.
That goes for everyone else on this board (Ekel, Thomas, Matthew, - Janie I think I already sent you a couple, right?, etc.)
Hopefully they will be released officially sometime in my lifetime!!!!!

If I were you I would start somewhere near the beginning; Head Over Heels or Treasure. After that, maybe Aikea-Guinea EP, or maybe the dual release Echoes In A Shallow Bay & Tiny Dynamine EP's. And once you've experienced those, "newer" ones like Blue Bell Knoll, Four-Calendar Café, Milk & Kisses. Though, I will say, while each has a very distinct Cocteau Twins sound, they each have a very particular production style, every release ranging from spectacular to stellar.

I meant "epicness" in the same sense as in "epic doom", not in the sense of sheer or general awesomeness.

Jonathan, weren't you in a band?

Yeah, but it was so long ago that now it seems like something I read in a book ;) We did manage to issue a couple of recordings, though."

It's easy to fall in love with the Cocteau Twins.

Just added Conjure One *Exilarch* to my discogs Wantlist. Sounds like something I'd be really into. Thnx, Karl! :]

What a sad loss of a great talent. I'm listening to this right now.
