Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
The book starts directly after the ending of Angelfall. The resistance is leaving the city and newspapers from the aftermath of the initial angel attacks are posted in shops. One of the headlines is "Who shot Gabirel, the Messenger of God?". I think Uriel was behind it - what better way to cause chaos in the angel ranks by removing the man who relays God's orders?
"Hey! Back off from the dead girl. She's Resistance property."
"Yeah, we need her for autopsies and stuff. You think girls killed by demon princes are easy to find?"
"No killing the dead girl. I'm talking to you, Soldier." - Dee & Dum to the rescue!

Warning, Spoilers Ahead..
"Are zombie girls allowed to talk?"
"If they're cute and willing to do zombie-girl mud fights."
"Duuude. Right on."
"That's a disgusting image."
"It's not like we'd pick the decayed ones, Penryn. Just ones like you, fresh from the dead."
"Only with ripped clothes and stuff."
"And hungry for breeeasts.
"He means brains."
"That's exactly what I meant." - Dee & Dum continue to amuse.
"Sleeping with a weapon has nothing to do with my sister being in the room. Nothing at all." - Penryn is in denial.
"You're naming your collector's item, kick-ass sword that's made to maim and kill, specifically designed to bring your ginormous enemies to their knees and hear the lamentation of their women - Pooky Bear?" - I think Penryn offended the entire male population with the name.
"I'm gonna be sick."
"I'm ordering you not to."
"Ah, don't say that. She's a born rebel. She'll puke just to make a point." - It pays to be contrary.
"You're telling us that they killed this many people and they weren't even trying?" - Not a comforting thought.
"The dude is not going to have a good evening." - Never mess with a crazy woman's kids - especially if she has a cattle prod.
It's interesting that there are civilian and warrior classes of angels. It would explain why they were so wussy during the attack on the aerie.
Clara survived the scorpion fetus attack only to be imprisoned again! Poor woman - assuming she escapes her current predicament I wonder if she will ever regain her vitality?
We find out the purpose of the stars that the mom keeps putting on Penryn and Paige's clothes - crazy yet prepared.
The scorpion tanks/birthing process is super freaky!

Warning, Spoilers Ahead...
Penryn's mom is pretty badass!
Raffe's reaction to his disguised sword made me laugh.
Clara's reunion with her family was sweet. I'm glad that her husband didn't reject her.
I didn't see Paige being able to influence the scorpions or that she would be the one to take out Belial.
Pooky Bear is one badass sword!
Who is Raffe going to find to reattach his wings?
Another excellent installment in the series - can't wait for the next one.

So the angels didn't die. Water seems to bring them back to life or at least consciousness. I wonder what it takes to kill one? Beheading? Fire? A certain sword perchance?
Interesting that after what happened to Penryn nobody believes the people stung by the scorpion angels are alive.
I was waiting for Paige to go all cannibal on us or rather those in the book. I like the idea of an angel mad scientist, but I think the author went a bit far with the metal teeth.
I wonder if Penryn's dad will eventually make an appearance? What's up with Penryn's mom? Is she a nephilim? Could that be why Penryn is a bit stronger?
Is there something more to why Penryn's mom wants her to keep track of her sister?
I'm kind of bummed Raffi hasn't made more of a cameo appearance so far. I do like the sword giving away some of his secrets and the training is pretty interest.
The Bear camouflage made me laugh especially with it seemingly objecting to it.

Yes, I snorted at this. Boys will be boys. *shakes head*

I thought that was her intention. Plus, she didn't want to reveal the name of the sword and not get into a deep discussion about it. I think she accomplished that. ha ha
"The scorpion tanks/birthing process is super freaky!
Yes, but I rather liked the creepy freakiness of it. What does that say about me?

I love creepy freakiness too - between World After and Deadshifted by Cassie Alexander the past few days have been full of it.

Ha ha ha! I finally got your Pooky Bear comment. How perfectly funny. I love when Raffe and Penryn got together.
“I’ve mentioned that names have power, right? Do you realize that when she fights battles, she’s going to have to announce herself to the opposing sword? She’ll be forced to say something ridiculous like, ‘I am Pooky Bear, from an ancient line of archangel swords.’ Or, ‘Bow down to me, Pooky Bear, who has only two other equals in all the worlds.’ ” He shakes his head. “How is she going to get any respect?”
“Oh, come on, seriously? No one’s going to respect that kind of pompous announcement anyway, regardless of the name.” I sling the sword strap around my shoulder, and the bear sword settles on my hip where it belongs.
So what ancient battle supposedly took place on earth? I don't recall ever hearing of one.
I loved how Paige was special after all, but was it because of what was done to her or because she and her sister are something more? I'm holding out for their father or another relative being an angel or partial angel. Maybe their dad had to leave because of needing to hide from the other angels? I want to know more about the desertion.
Loved Raffe's comment that Penryn looked good in wings.
Penryn's mom cracked me up. Setting off all those alarms.
I wonder if Clara can regain her health?
I love Paige's attack on Beliel.
Sara said, "Raffe's reaction to his disguised sword made me laugh."
Yes, it was.
Sara said, "Clara's reunion with her family was sweet. I'm glad that her husband didn't reject her."
Yes, I was too.
Sara said, "Who is Raffe going to find to reattach his wings?"
Excellent question. I'm guessing the Doc on Alcatraz.

I never even thought of that possibility but I bet you're correct.

I think I also comment about that as well although I misspelled his name. Obviously because his name wasn't mentioned enough. lol *snort* (as I wrote interest instead of interesting, I'm thinking I was in a hurry, but we won't talk about that *grin*):
I'm kind of bummed Raffi hasn't made more of a cameo appearance so far. I do like the sword giving away some of his secrets and the training is pretty interesting.

I'm thinking a secondary story of what happened to Raffe during the separation and of his feelings would be nice.

She used to have it on her website and you could read it for free. I'm not sure if she still does.

I did manage to finish the first four chapters and it is clear this one picks up right after. At this point I could care less about the sword and the sister who can walk or the crazy mother. For now it is not a DNF just a back in the pile until later.

SYNOPSIS:
In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.
When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.
Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.
Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?
