Adam (adam_slade) | 6 comments Hi,

The book listed underneath this post is by an author (or an alias) with the same name as me, which means it gets added to my page, despite me NOT being the author.
I had it changed so I wasn't linking to me, but somebody (or the system) changed it back again. I've once again removed myself, but is there any way to permanently stop this from happening?

Thanks,
Adam

The most practical option is to request that your profile name be changed from Adam^Slade to Adam^^^Slade. The two-space version would not be ideal since that is where you have dumped the books you don't want.

You also should stop editing books simply to get them off your page. Unless you know which author page to move them to you are creating a problem for us in the future. You seem to have changed the author on one book from Adam to Nick then back to your own spelling. That doesn't really help.

Adam (adam_slade) | 6 comments Sorry about that. I realised I was probably screwing things up and stopped. It's just that the book is nothing like anything I write, and I don't want to be associated with it. That said, I'm not willing to mess up my own name for someone who may never produce another title using the same name.

So there can't be two authors with the same name? I hope no John Smiths ever write a book. :)

There are hoards of writers with the same names. To disambiguate them we add spaces before their last name which is basically what you were doing when you edited the names. When people, or scripts, add new books they nearly always go to the one-space profile and then librarians will move them provided we are told that they are there. Some names have 8 or 10 individual authors using the same name.

As for the book showing up twice, that's because it has two editions. Both of which are now where they belong.

message 6: by Adam (new)

Adam (adam_slade) | 6 comments Thanks, Rivka. :-)

message 7: by Adam (new)

Adam (adam_slade) | 6 comments And I added no spaces, banjomike. Whoever did that wasn't me, as I was unaware that was how it was done.

message 8: by Alex (new)

Alex Poovathingal (alexp0205) I saw a similar issue for Innocent, but the author has only a first name and no last name. Therefore adding spaces won't work. How can this be solved?

The three books given below are by one author and the other cooking/health related books is not by him.
കാൻസർ വാർഡിലെ ചിരി Cancer Wardile Chiri
Njan Innocent
Chirikku Pinnil

There is no way to separate single-name authors at this time.

So what is to be done for this case? Is it ok to add Roman letters to the names to differentiate them like it is done in IMDB?

No, they will have to stay in a single profile, but a note can be left in the bio field.

Morton (mortified) | 16 comments G'day - I've recently added some of my books to the site, but there's another author whose books are being attributed to me because he's got the same name. It'd be good to make sure the other guy gets a different profile in case he ever joins and wants credit for his books.

Also, I have considered using a pseudonym in the past (my name is pretty common)

If i choose to adopt a pseudonym will I be able to keep the attributions of past books to my profile?

Firstly, which books are yours and which belong elsewhere?
What about this one:

message 14: by Robin (new)

Robin King (robinyourheart) | 4 comments I just added my new book "Van Gogh Gone (Remembrandt #2)" and it wasn't attributed to my author name. I then realized I should have added it on my author dashboard, which I started to do, but realized it was now creating 2 books. How can I just have the one edition of my book associated with my name. I realize there are several authors with the name "Robin King". I know there were other posts saying something about adding spaces, but I don't know what my name is supposed to be.

message 15: by Morton (new)

Morton (mortified) | 16 comments Thanks for the quick response Banjomike, that one looks like the other Ben.
there's two books on my page about leadership and coaching that belong to the other Ben. everything else on there is mine. I mostly write and edit short stories and poetry for anthologies at the moment.

Do you know which Ben does it belong to?
Would it be this one?

Anyway, it's not yours anymore

message 17: by Morton (new)

Morton (mortified) | 16 comments yep - all sorted now.

thanks folks

message 18: by Arenda (new)

Arenda | 26455 comments #14 Moved the book to your profile. Merged the two empty duplicates that were already on your profile.

What is the full isbn13 for Van Gogh Gone? The isbn13 was put in the isbn10 field, and missing the last 3 digits.

There are 2 spaces between your first and last name.

message 19: by Jade (new)

Jade Wyatt (jadeelizabethwyatt) | 2 comments Hello! I've recently been added as a contributing author of the following anthology (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...).

Unfortunately, the profile that's been tagged belongs to this 'Jade Jones'(https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...), which is most definitely not me!

I've changed my profile name to include my middle name: (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4...), but now I'm not sure how to have the correct 'me' tagged in the author listing...

Can you please help?

Thank you,
Jade Elizabeth Jones

message 20: by Donna (new)

Donna Farley (matdonna) I'm another author who has a namesake here. On this page mine are the coloured covers on top (some of them I am only a contributor to an anthology); the technical manuals/papers at the bottom are the other Donna Farley. I don't use a middle name or initial, but I believe she is known as Donna O. Farley, though that doesn't show up on my page here.

Abcdarian | 26579 comments #19: Moved your book to a new author profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... which uses 2 spaces between first and last names (Jade^^Jones) for differentiating from the other same name author and for book sorting (it doesn't affect anything else). If you wish to claim this author profile, click the "Is this you? Let us know" link at the bottom of that page. When it goes through it will merge with your current reader profile.

If you wish to have your author name include the middle name, you can ask for that in your profile claim as well.

Grace Carpenter | 4 comments I also have a problem with books showing up on my author dashboard that I did not write. So far, it is just textbooks that are showing up in error, as I do not write textbooks. Can I get some help with that?

The good ship melody is not my book and this author is new. I've seen something about changing my name, but it I'm not going to change my name because I was here first so could this book be removed. I only write romance novels and this is some fantasy book.

I suspect all the books about cats are written by the first author, not the second.
