January: Let it Snow! Mini Challenge

Thank you!! :)"
Yay Jaclyn! you are a rockstar and I went outside and made a couple snow angels to..."
Aww thanks! I appreciate the snow angels, even if just in thought! lol I live in San Antonio, so I haven't seen snow since 1984!! Although it's currently 19 degrees outside and I think my body is in shock! Haha. I honestly was only able to finish the challenge so quickly because I was off work for this past week. Now that I'm back, I'm sure my future challenge updates will be much slower!

January 1 - 31, 2014
For those of us living in cold, northern climates during this time of year, it can be very snowy indeed. Let's do a snow-inspired challen..."

Cheers
Lois

And I will be using The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins as my White cover. It's been sitting on my shelf for 6.5 years, since I started studying Biology. Almost done with school, but still didn't read it. Now is the time!!
And if I still have time this month, I will reread Catcher in the Rye as my 1940s book.
Good luck everyone.

Great, welcome Lois! I will sign you up for 3!

Awesome books!!!!!! Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorites (though I know it's not for everyone).

And my bad I think I had you there initially, I just didn't realize there were two :) thanks for letting me know!

I read Catcher in the Rye 5 years ago, when I was 19. I didn't really get the message at that time. Probably because English isn't my native language. But since then I read an awful lot about it. So I figured I'll try again.

I read it as required reading first in middle school when I was 12, then again in high school when I was 14, and by choice again in college when I was 19 and by choice in law school when I was 25.
I find that the people like me who consider it one of if not their favorite books are often people who first read it quite young, and then read it again over the years because you find yourself more and more seeing your reaction to Holden Caulfield when you were young and naive, and how that changes to kind of hating him and thinking he's a total prick, to sort of just feeling for him again. It's very complicated, but that's how it's worked for me! I can't wait to read it again in another couple years.

Yes Sinead, added for 3, welcome to the challenge! Don't worry about picking which ones - you can just mark them down as you complete them!

Yeah, I just remembered I had to read it for English class when I was around 16. And I didn't read a single page cause I just thought my teacher was looking for messages the writer was trying to give us, that were not there. And I kinda doubted every teacher during those years haha. So when I reread it later (well, okay, read it properly) I was surprised by the fact I actually liked it. I hope I am gonna love it like you. Can't wait to read it now haha.
(btw, later my English teacher was the one who introduced me to Edgar Allen Poe, who is now one of my favorite writers. I studied for days to memorize the poem the raven. So everything turned out to be just fine haha)

Awesome job Lynn, and I'm really excited to see you found a 1940's book to read for it too! I've been having trouble finding one. Going to add The Bride Wore Black to myT BR list.

Congratulations, Allen!! I increased your challenge number to 3 and updated you to 2/3. I'm so glad you are having a blast, and I'm confident you will be able to finish a third before the month ends!

1. Let It Snow choice is The Plague by Albert Camus published in 1947.
Will pick the others shortly. This is my first challenge-pretty excited!

I had the exact same thought! Apply for the job Brian!!

Lol if there's an opening, I will!
Okay Jessica I've added you :]

4. Is winter over yet? Read a long book (a book with 500 or more pages).
Gone with the Wind -- More than 1,000 pages and worth every second I spent reading it!

3. All snowflakes have six sides. Read a book with the number 6 in its page number. (For example, The Golem and the Jinni has 486 pages.)

It was a fun, small book. Oscar Wilde wrote some engaging children's stories. Not with necessarily happy endings!

Congratulations, Erika!! Huge deal to read anything more than 500 pages, not to mention more than 1,000 pages. Excellent job, and you are updated!

I am quite intrigued now - I might have to check this one out! You're officially updated, and congratulations!!

Excellent job, Lois! excited to see what your next 2 will be. Updated you :]

Omg Audrey, I feel you - I am doing so many that I haven't even gotten one done for this monthly challenge so I almost wish I had just started out with 1 slash I might reduce my challenge number to 1 :)
Signed you up, and welcome!

Amanda you're a rock star!!!! I'd go make snow angels for you too except now it's raining here and all the snow is going to melt away...so um....next time it snows I hope it inspires you to find your 4th and final book! <3

One question, if I already read a book matched in one of these criterias, started and finished this month, before joining in this challenge, does it count?

Welcome, Maiko, and yes, it totally counts regardless of when you joined the challenge!! As long as you completed one of the criteria this month, you're golden. So I'll put you for 1/4 then? Also let me know which book you finished this month! I like to see what people are reading :]

1. Let it Snow! is a song written in 1945. Read a book written in the 1940s.
2. Whiteout. A whiteout is a weather condition where visibility is severely reduced due to snow. Read a book with a predominantly white cover.
3. All snowflakes have six sides. Read a book with the number 6 in its page number. (For example, The Golem and the Jinni has 486 pages.)

How was London?

@Daphne If you're into historical reading, this one is good. This book covered just about everything about London, from BC period, Victorian era, Tudor, its people, languages, customs, crimes, etc. The author did his research pretty well, written in lighthearted way, though it became a little bit 'dark' here and there. I enjoyed reading it, but it's the kind of book that you have to read slowly in order to get into it.

2. Read a book with a predominantly white cover.
The Perfect Christmas, Debbie Macomber, 01/11/14 ***

Is this a white cover or what? 3/4 for the challenge.

Now onto the 3rd book :0)

Sounds interesting. I shall add to my to-read list. Thanks for the feedback.

Add me in for these for a total of 3/4 books in the challenge. Hopefully if time permits I can add one more! I almost have the 1940's book finished. YAY!
3. All snowflakes have six sides. Read a book with the number 6 in its page number. Tell the Wolves I'm Home with 368 pages
