I love reading, but it's been a long time since I've been able to read consistently. My personal challenge is to read 30 books in 2014. I don't have a predetermined list of what books I want to read, so instead my goal is to mix it up. I want to read: -5 books of poetry or plays -5 historical fiction -5 classics -5 self-help books -5 Pulitzer Prize books -5 foreign books (translated into English, though, because I'm not fluent enough to read any other language)
My "+ 1" is the Bible, which I plan on reading from cover to cover each year. If anyone has a suggestion about a "must-read" in one of the above categories, I would love some input!
What a wonderful list -- I've been thinking it's not just how many I want to set as a goal -- but also how challenging the reading. The list is a great idea for doing both. I'm going to noodle on a list for myself for a while I know I'll be adding non-fiction history -- and maybe one science because it's not my natural leaning. -- but I might just otherwise adopt yours! Good idea. Thanks for sharing. I'll definitely add the entire Bible to my list! John Adams read it every year all the way through-- no wonder he was such a genius -- and contributed enormously to the birth of this country. Although history is not on your list, one of the best books I read last year was "Hannibal: One Man Against Rome" by Harold Lamb. It really opens up a whole new world -- and introduces you to one of the most accomplished generals in all of history.
I've never tried reading history before! Maybe I can find one that won a Pulitzer. I thought about adding a miscellaneous category for all the genre's I didn't list, but decided not to. Are you joining the 2014 Reading Challenge?
