name that book?

Can anyone help me remember the title to a book I read a couple of years ago set in West Virginia during the 1950s? A young family is in a car accident which leaves their father dead and their mother in a coma. The two children go to live with their grandmother in coal country. She lives with no modern conveniences at the top of a mountain and the coal company is trying to force her out. its a bit of a mystery but mostly just a heartfelt clean read. Ring any bells?
