Lisa This has been in my TBR pile for a long while. I'll definitely read along.

Kristi (kristicoleman) We're up to 11! This is going to be a fun read!

message 16: by Zulfiya (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) 12! :-) I am going to post a reading schedule between Christmas and New Year. Honestly, when it comes to numbers, I hoped for more because 27 people voted for it, and less than half are willing to participate. I know I am preaching to the converted here in this thread, but please vote responsibly.

I will try to reach others who voted for this novel via individual messages. Hopefully, the discussion will be lively. I am looking forward to it.

Courtney I'm sure more people are reading than want to commit to discussion, I've read almost every chunkster for a year and have never done discussions.

message 18: by Kristi (new) - added it

Kristi (kristicoleman) Jennie, we'd love to hear your feelings and ideas about the books. Please do feel free to jump in and discuss with us, the more people that discuss the better the reading experience for everyone reading!

message 19: by Zulfiya (last edited Dec 24, 2013 10:21PM) (new)

Zulfiya (ztrotter) Guys, I understand that reading is a solitary experience, but please let us know what you think when you read with the group. Sharing is so important. Your words might change the way people look at a book, and those who are reading but have questions might get frustrated because no one is posting. A line or two will work to encourage others or to help to stay motivated. Reading, as I said, is solitary, but discussion is 'communal' for the lack of a better word. Spread the word by sharing.

Gaijinmama Count me in, too. Lurker, no more!

I agree! To be honest, I had not heard of this book before this poll, but voted on it and intend to read it, so I hope it is good. If I end up struggling with it, I hope to see some other people's posts to keep me motivated in reading.

message 22: by Ami (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ami I would be interested in reading this.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 456 comments I was pretty much off the grid during December with holiday stuff, so I didn't see this thread, but I really am interested in reading it. I'm not always up to speed on the books, but I do my best, and thoroughly enjoy everyone's comments. I just have more than one chunkster that I'm balancing in a couple of groups right now, so I'm a little behind.

message 24: by Kristi (new) - added it

Kristi (kristicoleman) Alana, we haven't started yet, so you shouldn't be behind yet :) And even if you were we'd still want you to join us!

Kristi (kristicoleman) He he..I was in an independent bookstore and found a copy this weekend! I am so excited to be able to read the actual book!!

Courtney I bought one of the squat little fat copies from my local B&N and decided I wanted the tall, dapper version instead- but they were all gone. I was sad- but at least I have it ;)

message 31: by Linda (new) - added it

Linda | 1425 comments I'm hoping my book comes in the mail tonight! I don't know if my copy will be short and fat or not - it will be a surprise. :)

I found one at the store after I'd already bought the E-book...mine's short and fat too though.

Courtney I'm getting antsy for it- I have a hard copy, an ebook on my kindle, and the audiobook. Now we just need time to go a little faster...

I almost got that one too...then I saw this edition and loved the cover...because apparently I do judge a book by it's cover.

Linda | 1425 comments Gaijinmama - yes, that is the copy I have. I ordered it online and I didn't know which edition I would be getting.

Kristi - If I had to choose, I would have chosen your edition too - that's a beautiful cover!

I agree,I like that darkish cover much better. Yellow just isn't me. I actually had a much older, used paperback edition which isn't pictured here at Goodreads but if I recall it was reddish. Anyway, I started reading but dropped it on the commuter train one morning in 1997 and somehow never got back to it, so I ended up with the yellow one.

Have all of you seen the Disney film (The Sword in the Stone)?
This is NOTHING like it whatsoever.

No, I have not seen the Disney film. I will be reading this book with pretty much no knowledge of the characters or what happens. I'm excited to start reading, but I have to catch up on some other reads before I begin this one

It's a very fun book to read, don't be afraid! You'll laugh and cry all within the first 5 chapters...and then you'll be hooked!
